I prefer to avoid the cashback offers for two reasons:

    • If I leave early, they may take it back.
    • I am not disciplined enough to spread the cashback over the course of the year. This means I effectively get 1 bill "for free" and then have higher bills for the rest of the year. I'd prefer to spread the cost over the year.

Of course, the above it just my view. If a cashback deal was significantly cheaper e.g. €50, I probably would just take it.

Try contacting ESBN, they should have your non-prepay meter's closing reading that you should have used. As it was used for that meter's last bill, Energia will have to accept to use that reading and correct your bill. They won't take your word, but if it's coming from ESBN, that's your proof. You'll need that meter's MPRN.

Or get your hands on that meter's previous closing bill if you can. It will state the MPRN and closing reading, again that's proof.

    Hi Tx

not quite sure what you mean.

"they should have your non-prepay meter's closing reading that you should have used" - So the last time that non prepay meter was used was in May 2022.

"Energia will have to accept to use that reading and correct your bill". Have logged it with ESB to come out to 'reactivate' the ESB meter. I have no idea of the relationship of the prepay meter and the ESB meter. The prepay meter shows me every month's usage going back at least a year.

"Or get your hands on that meter's previous closing bill if you can. It will state the MPRN and closing reading, again that's proof." - Won't there have been a year and a half's worth of usage in between?

The problem here is. The opening reading Energia have from September was 17479. When i entered my reading at the start of October to get my bill, it was 18347. This shows a usage 868 Units for the period of 5th September - 3rd October. .

Now, my Prepay meter shows I used 408 units for the month of September. So the problem here is, wherever the got the PrePayPower Closing reading / Energia Opening reading. Its wrong. It should be closer to a reading of 17939. As of yet, Energiaa havent been able to tell me where they got their opening reading from.

I didn't have bills with prepay power,, you top up and pay as you go. However, I found out today that the reading I had given to get my first bill with Energis came from the PrePay meter, and they need to get ESB out to reactivate my ESB meter outside. That's where my readings should have came from in the first place.

You gave energia the opening reading.

The ESB meter will never have been deactivated, it still reads as normal, the prepay meter sits between that meter and the board and cuts the power when no credit.

It's not on prepay power to tell you the new companies sign up procedure, (unless they removed the prepay meter, then they would have a reading from your ESB meter) energia should have maybe been clearer about which reading they needed.

You are where you are, you could ring prepay power and ask for the opening esb reading (when the meter was installed)

They also would have an opening reading from your prepay meter when you signed up and when you deactivated it, I had one previously and i think they can provide a bill that shows units used, as well as cost.

That may work but not sure.

Not quite sure what I meant either to be fair ;)

I'm not familiar with prepay setups, I assumed (in part from what I understood you were saying you gave Energia a reading from the wrong meter) that the non-prepay was deactivated/not used during the time you were on prepay, but apparently I misunderstood.

At least if you have the closing reading from May '22, maybe that's a start? Do you have a way to know the total kWh you used while on prepay? (statements, or asking Prepay Power?)

Thanks. Looks like they've upped their discount from 22% to 24% in recent days.

    SSE cashback impacts the rate - best rates offers 20% discount at E 0.2665 / G 0.0824, with cashback €300 it's 10% and rates are E 0.2998 / G 0.0928. Depends on your use I suppose.

Hi folks, quick question someone may have an insight on…

Up for renewal at the moment but there is a high probability we'll be moving house in the next 12 months.

Do all providers go for the standard €100 per utility cancellation fee?

Apparently not, with SSE anyway. Above poster is spot on, SSE seems to be the only ones with a €100 per utility cancellation, totalling €200.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 12,062 ✭✭✭✭GBX

Possibly yes. You'd need to check with your provider(s). They should be able to switch you over. If moving you should not incur a cancellation fee as you're staying with them.

Interesting question.. My thinking is the contract is linked to the MPRN, which does not move with you. I may of course be totally wrong. If you were to take a new contract at the new address you may have a good case to have ia break fee waived.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 761 ✭✭✭you2008

Just FYI - so dose Flogas - cash back impact the rate, it is the same logic as SSE.

Not exactly an earth shattering offer.I pay 27.45 and 9.04 until next March.Getting emails to renew in Nov at your offer but before vat. So,they can …………off. In dispute with them right now due to overestimating a bill and dealing with robots with 2 legs and 2 arms and soft tissue up top,not circuitry.A nightmare to deal with.

I also have this offer from BG.

Also supposed to getting solar panels installed in couple of weeks, and we have a new EV (minimal use though).

Not sure if BG will give this similar offer if switching to a EV / smart plan, and crucially if there's a good plan from BG for that. I can't ring them at the moment as I am outside the country. Just wondering if anyone has been thru similar… I guess it's time to start digging into comparisons / kilowatt.ie etc

My electricity contract is up on Monday. Has anyone got a great deal lately. I'm currently with BG.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,185 ✭✭✭loki7777

From BG? They didn't even bother to try to keep me (out of contract since yesterday).

So I will be switching to flogas as with my usage(4000-4200 per year) they are the cheapest ones.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,164 ✭✭✭masterboy123

BordGais contract ends on 25 November 2024. Does this mean I can switch to another provider on 25th Nov itself? Or need to wait until 26th Nov?

Also, which has better customer service, electric ireland vs FloGas? FlowGas is coming at 50€ cheaper for the year.

    Thanks

Flogas isn't great but nothing malicious. They didn't have an app when I was with them and submitting readings was a bit clunky. They made one major f up but credited my account with free money as compensation without me asking.

best to wait until the 26th, if flogas is cheaper then go with them, I’ve been with them for 8 months and no problems and never needed to contact customer services with any electricity provider tbh

    The internet isn’t for everyone

Believe it or not but FG have finally moved into the modern world and have finally gotten an app👍. I was with them for around 18 months without any billing problems etc, they saved me a fortune with their first fixed price bwg deal.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,589 ✭✭✭bren2001

Since when do FloGas have an app? Where can I get it?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 10,094 ✭✭✭✭CoBo55

It's in the android play store, I was looking on their website on my phone earlier and a semi transparent banner appeared saying get the app. I haven't checked the iPad yet but I'm sure they'd have one for iOS.

Oh no I'm wrong, it's for someone ordering gas cylinders or something equally useless, sorry about that🫣🫣

Some good Axa offers, via Energia.

    https://www.energia.ie/exclusive-axa-promotion-offer

As above with dual fuel, 24 hour electricity is 24.75 inc vat, Gas is 7.43 inc vat, Gas standing charge is 141.60 inc vat.

For those with Solar, Energia are 24 cent for export, the second highest on the market.

Nice one, I'd say they're one of the best out there.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,164 ✭✭✭masterboy123

Thanks, I will wait until tomorrow and pull the trigger for Electric ireland.

The Axa plan looks great, I'm with enerigia already, anyone know if one can switch to this and just start a new contract without penalty?

Thanks Fafy. Just need to decide whether to go with The Energia/Axa or Flogas/BWG now. Contract with BG ended on Friday.
