Including Vat? Is that their 24hr rate? That's scaldy.

flogas is best for me going by bonkers. They have the wrong standing charge on their site when you look at the calculations but it still works out 330 euro cheaper for the year using the national average figures.

If you have a smart meter energypal might give you a more accurate recommendation, FG have crept up a bit, they were 23.44c when I left them (inc vat) for their 12 month fixed rate.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 844 ✭✭✭_BAA_RAM_EWE

Energy pal has this smart electric saver 30 just pipping FG by 25ish euro. Don't particularity want to activate smart though so FG it is.

It also looks like Flow Gas are currently the best for dual fuel and our usage.

Our contract expires tonight. I've read here of people waiting for Black Friday deals. Is that a thing?

I know when I switched to SSE last year there were all sorts of delays and confusion re when the contracts started but I can't remember if I switched with their site directly or not. So does anyone know is it better to switch provider using Bonkers or directly via the provider website?

I want to ensure I stay on a 24hour plan even though I have an unactivated smart meter.

Finally, has anyone made a better deal by calling around the suppliers than what the websites show?

    Many thanks for any help.

Switch through the supplier directly, as bonkers.ie get a commission which has no benefit to you

if it's the same to you, I don't know why you wouldn't give them the commission. It's a useful website

spot on 👍🏻 if nobody switches through the likes of bonkers then it won’t exist

They also have exclusive cash back offers and deals now and then

I got a great deal on my BB through One big switch, why would you begrudge any site their bit of commission?

    Hi all, just for info.

I’m coming off BG 25% rate, simple numbers here (i.e. not inc. PSO levy, carbon tax as they are the same for all). All non-smart (24hr) urban rates.

    Dual fuel

    E Rate

    Standing

    G Rate

At my average use, for dual fuel combined, including cashback, pso, carbon, estimated bill is much of muchness:

Electric Ireland comes out best of the traditional providers. But they cut their prices on 1st Nov, and others may drop in future.

Going with single suppliers, for Elec and Gas, throws up as follows:

    Single fuel

    E Rate

    Standing

    G Rate

    Standing

    Cashback

    Energia Elec Only

    0.2361

    236.62

    SSE Gas Only

    0.0824

    152.31

    ELEC

    Tot Bill

    Rate

    GAS

    Tot Bill

    Rate

    Total

    Energia

    1397.02

    0.2361

    SSE Airtricity

    1109.71

    0.08240

    2506.73

So Energia and SSE is marginally cheaper over the year for me, compared to Elec Ireland Dual, and if there are future price reductions, this offer might pay off. My elec use is also more variable, so I’m more interested in elec rate rather than the gas rate.

Probably all far too much work to save only €50 (-:

Bonkers does all of this for you.

You're missing the FloGas BWG deal:

'Bonkers does all of this for you'. Yup, I know that, so does switcher.ie. It's clearer here for others who might want to see it. That's the point of this thread, I think.

'You're missing the FloGas BWG deal'. Yup, I got shafted on that before, still going through CRU to get it sorted.

I'm currently on EI 10% EnergySaver 24hr meter Rural, using Bonkers and Switcher are Flogas looking like the best saving st the moment?

FYI. Those tables are completely broken when using phone or tablet. It looks like the matrix with vertically scrolling numbers.

If bonkers is throwing up Flogas as the cheapest, look at their BWG deal. Likely cheaper again:

Thanks I'll have a look, is it still best practice to avoid moving to smart plans from 24hr plan on a smart meter unless you can take advantage with an EV etc?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 168 ✭✭Garfin

That link looks like dual fuel only, this one from FloGas electricity only looks the best bet as far as I can see staying with the 24hr rate

26% Discount Single Electricity with €220 cashback

    Unit RateCent per kWh27.42(inc. VAT)

    Standing ChargeAnnual€257.38(inc. VAT)

    PSO LevyAnnual€42.25(inc. VAT)

    EAB Estimated Annual Bill€1,451.12(inc. VAT)

    Year 1 CostIncludes €220 cashback€1,231.12(inc. VAT)

Elec only is available as well:
    https://www.flogas.ie/price-plans/bwg-affinity-rate-res-offer/detail.html?fuelType=electricity&offerId=58&availability=new_customers

If your usage is below (approx) 5500 units a year. Then the cashback deal is better.

If your usage is above (approx) 5500 unis a year. Then the BWG (Affinity) deal is better.

If its in anyway close, I'd be of the view the non-cashback deal is better. If you break contract, the exit fee is €50 with no cashback but effectively €270 with cashback as they can clawback the offer for breaking early.

Your usage is around 4200(?), in which case, the cashback deal will save you an additional €50 compared to the BWG deal.

Thanks, fine on PC, must be a boards issue, I tried plain text but it was too messy without tables.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 178 ✭✭newincity

Can you please share what does BWG stands here?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,774 ✭✭✭Kaisr Sose

    Its a food retail company

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,645 ✭✭✭bren2001

As Kaisr says, its a good retail company. The Flogas offer is for employees of certain companies. However, FloGas simply don't check and anyone can sign up via the link (but not over the phone). See in the link bwg-affinity-rate i.e. a rate designed for them. They have others e.g. Golf Ireland, Brennans but they're all very similar.

Heres my story. I'll make it as short as I can.

2 months ago, after a LOT of back and forth, I left Prepay Power for Energia. Even though Prepay power offered my 500 euro credit to stay, I moved, simply because i wanted to take advantage of their Free EV Car charging installation and smart meter. Oh i wish i had stayed with Prepay power.

So, I don't recall giving a Closing reading to Prepay power, nor did I provide Energia with an opening reading. So after a month when I entered in my reading into the energia system, i got a bill for 800 and odd units, when I usually use 400 and odd MAX.

Ive been a few weeks now arguing with Energia, as they keep telling me i need photographic evidence of the reading on the opening day (using that days paper or a shop receipt) I keep telling them that no such photo exists. I have shown them evidence that I only used 408 Units in September as it says so in my meter. Granted ,the billing period is from 5th September to 3rd October. But if all i used in September is 408, it stands to reason that the other 450 units they are charging for the period is WAY off. But i just cant seem to get through to them.

Ive asked for proof that I gave them an incorrect opening reading, which they havent provided, and to make matters worse, they said that's not one of their meters, and they need a photo of the meter that's outside, that's not working. It's a huge hulabaloo and i could go into the sheer lunacy of the hoops im trying to jump through.

Icing on the cake. I found out after I signed up, that My meter doesn't provide enough power to get a smart meter, therefore, I cant even get the car charger in. I turned down 500 euro in credit, just to be overcharged by 100% and then treated like an idiot on countless phone calls and emails.

Im 2 seconds away from cancelling my direct debit and putting in a mandate to get the money back from the bill that was overcharged.

    Anyone experienced this before>?
