Not just football hopefully. Has a regime headed by a wanted war criminal ever participated in the Eurovision for example?

It would be shocking if they are simply allowed to roll up and sing as their state commits war crimes.

The situation in Gaza has little impact overall but that small sway of voters can sometimes be the difference in a swing state. It's political really. There's about 7 million jews living in the USA. When they see their homeland getting attacked they will understandably favour a president that backs that state over one that doesn't.

I think despite everything Hamas are still holding on to hostages despite peace deals being on the table for their release and the Lebanese are still firing into Israel. These are the stories they get over there so is it a wonder?

Everyone is afraid to make a stand because ....well, you know.

At least our leader said he'd be arrested if he set foot in Ireland. Unlike the watery home secretary in the UK.

The US have never wanted to be held accountable for their crimes. Biden did welcome the ICC decision to issue a warrant for Putin. The hypocrisy of so many Western leaders has been laid bare by events in Palestine.

You can be 'pro Israel' all you want but being pro the ritual slaughter of innocent children, the maiming of thousands more, the orphaning of more again, the virtual ethnic cleansing under way in Northern Gaza, the flattening of virtually every inch of the territory...that's a whole other story, if you support/justify that then people are going to critique that position.

Israel and the Jews have been under attack for millennia at this point, from the romans to the saladin led caliphate to Napoleon to Hitler and now the hamas led attacks. Hamas attacked innocent civilians on the 7th of October, that is what escalated the current situation. Hamas are now fighting (and by a lot of accounts winning) a propaganda war against the Israelis. Punch the israelis and then complain when they punch back.

The amount of anti jewish and anti israel (as opposed to anti IDF etc) sentiment that is now seemingly ok these days is tantamount to the impact the hamas led war of propaganda has had on the world.

I look back to the pre and during ww2 cartoons from Axis countries and the amount of anti-jew propaganda included is not dissimilar to what is going on today.

I stress again, I am not jewish. People often claim I am a zionist or jewish because of my views on israel, but it couldnt be further from the truth. I can respect people picking sides or holding different political views but supporting and siding with a group of terrorists who attacked innocent civilians is not ok.

War crimes, don't make me laugh. You cannot have war crimes when you are fighting a defensive war against a group of insurgents that are not party to the international treaty which regulates what a war crime is.

I'm in favor of Israel defending its territory and expanding to include the original Israel areas of Canaan. This would include Judea, Samaria etc. The area of Transjordan from mandatory british palestine was given to the Islamic peoples in the region, and Israel was set aside to be Jewish. I don't understand why islamic encroachment into jewish land is allowed.

Yep, looks like the International Criminal Court is wrong and you are right.

Couldn't be further from the truth that you are a Zionist ... Eh, read back your past paragraph

And you wonder why Hamas, Hezbollah and other terrorist groups exist. Your last paragraph explains it.

The list of Eurovision countries for 2025 has not been finalised yet. As you say though, this is a major dilemma for the organisers - their current PM being a wanted war criminal is no small matter (Serbia were not allowed compete in Eurovision until the mid 2000s for example).

I'm actually surprised by the relatively large amount of pro-Israel posters in this thread. I would have thought the way that Israel has been carrying on that nobody in their right mind would still be backing them at this stage.

Ah sure - They're clearly a bunch of anti-semites. There could no other possible reason why they came to the conclusions that they did right? right?

ELM327 has made a very important point which may result in all war crimes and crimes against humanity charges being dropped against Gallant and Netanyahu.

”You cannot have war crimes when you are fighting a defensive war against a group of insurgents that are not party to the international treaty which regulates what a war crime is.”

Remarkably, the ICC seem to have missed this crucial point of law.

    delete, already covered.

Not defensive though - the bombings and attacks and killing of tens of thousands of civilians are all taking place outside the territory of Israel. Virtually no Israeli civilians have died since October 7th and only a small number of IDF personnel. In no way could this be described as self defence or something that was completely unavoidable.

For anyone interested, the pre-trial chamber of the ICC unanimously agreed that arrest warrants be issued for Gallant, Netanyahu and Deif. In doing so, they simply agreed that evidence the ICC Prosecutor submitted to them met the legal standard required to take the matter to the next stage. Specifically, they found there are reasonable grounds to believe that Rome Statute crimes have been committed by the three named actors.

The full details of the judgement are an interesting read. As well as issuing warrants, the chamber also rejected challenges Israel submitted (even though Israel does not recognise the ICC).

What I found particularly pertinent is a statement by the Prosecutor. Amid all the posturing from Israel, the US and others about the warrants, he points this out:

Today, our collective mind and focus should be on the victims of international crimes in Israel and in the State of Palestine. In my own meetings with the victims and families of hostages taken from kibbutzim, and with victims from Gaza who have lost so many loved ones, I have underlined that the law is there for all, that its role is to vindicate the rights of all persons.

Netenyahoo is now in the same box as Putin and rightfully so. Cosying up to Orban ffs how pathetic.

Indeed I'm sure all those legal people missed that point! Sweet Jesus! 🙄

Israel Katz, the bloke who replaced Gallant (suspected war criminal), has hit the ground running:

Haaretz: Israel's Defense Chief: West Bank Settlers No Longer Subject to Detention Without Trial

Defense Minister Katz informed Shin Bet Director Ronen Bar of the decision to stop using detention without trial earlier this week ■ Currently, 3,443 Palestinians and eight Jews are being held without trial

I was away with work and missed the ground-breaking news about the arrest warrant for Mileikowsky. Israel and her useful idiots are using confetti again

Now this is very funny. All the cranks are gathering round to support Bibi. Has Putin invited his pal to visit yet and offered immunity?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 54,169 ✭✭✭✭tayto lover

The ICC is only a disgrace to the people it has called out and their backers. It took a very brave decision and didn't take it lightly knowing that the US would try to rubbish it. Fair play to those brave people who didn't back down under intense pressure and called out the War Criminals for what they are.

Notable that Lindsey Graham thought the sun shone out of ICC backsides when Putin was indicted but turned 180 degrees yesterday.

Reckon they're just trolling at this stage. Basically ye're punching smoke arguing with them.

Thankfully while they may be well represented here, they don't seem to be in the real world.

At least our leader said he'd be arrested if he set foot in Ireland.

That was just empty pointless statement.

I would actually like to see what would happen if Netanyahu sets his foot on Irish land..

Indeed he will and deservedly so. He is a war criminal. I'd rather he went to Spain though. He wouldn't like their prisons.

I can’t see any ceasefire happening before Trump takes office on 20th January. If anything Israel will go hell for leather and then hand an early presidential win to Trump.

Netanyahu would never come here because he would get an unfriendly reaction. His thin skin couldn't handle that. Be interesting if he even bothers to visit Hungary.
