They just moved it out to next week. Must have had a fair bit of interest. They aren't cheap cars to buy new, but "no one" wants a used one, as the small pool of buyers for these usually must buy new for the ACCA and for finance, so I can't imagine this going anywhere at auction other than to a high end garage (lewis motors, beshoffs, etc) or somewhere that the owner fancied it for himself while buying it as a retail car on margin knowing it won't sell for ages!

It’s a strange one. Definitely not your usual fare turning up at Wilsons. Very small market for that sort of a vehicle here.

Low mileage and probably not old enough to avoid vat regardless

What are the VRT rules regarding GB plated cars in the north? I know cars need to have over 6,000km on the clock and have to be owned for a reasonable amount of time but is there any other requirements specifically for GB cars which were imported into NI?

I see a nice 2022 Ioniq 5 which has NI plates but was originally registered in Dundee.

For those who need 5 seats and 2 seats for midgets with no luggage. These are really tight in the back. Obviously that one is a nice spec AMG version but Connollys in Galway have one advertised for €47,900

    Anyone here driving a Polestar?

Why have they dropped so much in price?

Last time l looked them they were circa €50k for the entry level model. This seems an absolute bargain.......I'm I missing something?

They've a new version (coming) out, and they're shifting old stock.

It's not a very good car. Very cramped in the cabin. And the old model. For just a couple grand more you could get a brand new 2025 Tesla Model 3, with more range and far lower running costs.

Not a bargain in my book unless you could get it for under €30k

Here is a sweet bargain. Brand new Fiat 500 electric, unwanted price, €18k

    https://www.donedeal.ie/cars-for-sale/unwanted-prize-fiat-500-icon-20-km-3mth-tax/38129866

List price before any optional extras is €24,995 and not €32,200 like the ad claims though…

It's really a 6 seater, the middle seat in the first row is tiny. Absolutely tiny

The back seats would be for children only

It's an absolute cracker of a car. One of the most comfortable cars I've ever driven. And that includes Mercs, Lexus, Audi and many more. May be a bit cramped if you're six foot plus, but no more so than say an Audi A4 or A5 etc.

Best thing is that it feels like a 'normal' car to sit in and drive. All the information in front of you instead of off to one side like some EVs. And it's really well sound proofed and quiet on the road. Very little road noise unlike some. I think Nobby on Cars described it as a driver's car. And he's right.

In terms of price, I think they were around the 42k mark earlier this year, so I'd say it's a bargain alright. But check around. Not the one I'd go for, prefer one with the panoramic roof.

With all due respect that's horseshit.

'Its not a very good car' waffle.

Goes on to sell one of the basic level spec EVs out for a few grand more....

So they got it for free. That calls for some serious lowballing😂

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 61,076 ✭✭✭✭unkel

You could try but the ad says no offers. Might get it for €17k but I doubt you would get it for any less.

How is the Polestar better specced than the Model 3? Wouldn't really bother me either way but just interested in what makes you think that.

I haven't driven a Polestar myself but I have seen several reviews and they are pretty poor. I did sit in it and found it very cramped and small. Similar to BMW i4. I am a bit under 6'2 and a bit over 90kg. I generally do not get this cramped feeling in any car, not even very small ones like my vintage Lotus

I'd like to see those 'pretty poor' reviews. I watched and read a lot before I bought mine and the overwhelming positivity I took from them was what clinched it for me. @MarkN was especially impressed and compared it very favourably to Teslas. In fact one reviewer was driving a Model 3 to collect his Polestar 2 and it was hilarious the difference in background noise between the two. Could barely hear him in the Tesla.

Steady on with the "cracker of a car" nonsense for a sec 😂

You're justifying your own choice, and that's perfectly fine - without the hyperbolae.

There was a spec question above which was ignored - I'm interested in the answer too, as the incoming P2 will be a good chunk more expensive than a Model 3.

Its the standard range single motor. Its about what its worth.

They are a really well built car, its a Volvo after all, but its small inside, cramped compared to other EV's.

They didn't sell well compared to other EVs and now they have to shift them as the better looking facelift version is out.

You wont go wrong with oe so drive it and see if it suits you.

Compared to a Tesla Model 3 current model, the "Highland"? I'd doubt it very much.

I would certainly hope so considering they were in a 37k car going to collect a 53k car!

New facelift looks so uch better than the older one IMO.

You can look up the review yourself. I'd say it was pre the new model.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 61,076 ✭✭✭✭unkel

Looks good. But in fairness the old model looked good too. Better than most cars in the class and certainly lots better than a Model 3. The value for money was just very poor to start with, particularly when it was still a FWD car. I know this doesn't matter to people who don't really care much about having a driver's car. But it matters to me.

Fighting hyperbole with hyperbole. The "not a very good car" was equally exaggerated. With absolutely nothing other than "a bit cramped" as backup. The Tesla fanboi stuff is nauseating at times. There's absolutely no question that apparently can't be answered by "get a Tesla" despite it being demonstrably not the answer the question is seeking to elicit nor the parameters it can fit into.

I recently bought a used Polestar 2 lrsm. I had €30k cash to spend so looked at plenty of EV options including the M3 but I found the interior dreadful and not something I could live with. They are so common now where as 5 years ago they stood out from the crowd which is what the Polestar does now. It's far more stylish and imposing looking than any other car like it. I get 300kms range out of a full charge driving on the motorway to Kerry so I'm sure it would do at least 350kms around town. I'm six foot and find the cabin is class and the biggest issue for me is the terrible cupholders! Unkel liking Teslas and me not liking Teslas is what car ownership is all about as the world would be a boring place if we all had the same taste.

Time is contagious, everybody's getting old.

It feels so very cramped in those crappy polestars.

Also, I’ve never actually sat in one 😂

Also they don’t stand out. They blend in and look a bit boring to me. Different strokes

I don't particularly like the Model 3 and I find it one of the least good looking cars in the class. But this is the bargains thread and there is no mistake it is the best value for money in its class by a long shot, on objective grounds

But yes I agree with your post, we buy what we like. Personally I don't think I would buy a Model 3. But neither would I buy a Polestar 2

It's a pity some Polestar 2 owners (unlike yourself) get very defensive when you say something they don't like to hear and as a knee jerk reaction blame it on Tesla fanboism. The user asked a question and I gave them an answer.

The Polestar 2 look lovely to me and has many good reviews, from what I have seen.

It's on my 2nd hand shortlist next year if I can stretch that far for one.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2, Paid Member Posts: 35,672 ✭✭✭✭listermint

It wasn't answered because I'm busy not on here all of the time.

He said it was a poor car. Despite.... not amazingly never haven driven one. Then claimed the model 3 was better all round despite having to spend more money to get one.

Any idea how I could work out the price on Irish plates?
