FFG are two side of the same arse, many people will vote FFG , even though they want to give them a kicking; because they feel the are the least bad of beyond appalling options. So… FG more than any one have abandoned financial reason, prudence, looking after the working man… This cushy confidence and supply, with rotating, self congratulating Taoiseachs, is another cosy farce. My proposal, if you do think FFG are the best of a load of insufferable options, this election, you vote FF , I suggest them as Harris is actually a national embarrassment, to be Irelands most powerful political leader… One of them needs to take this initial punch and for the aforementioned reason, it should be Harris IMO. If the cosy political establishment, can effectively just retain power, as appalling as they are, no consequences and laugh at us, that is what they will do… I suggest if you are on the fence of not voting or voting FFG, go with FF. It will set the cat amongst the pigeons and force FG to do a lot of soul searching and get out of their left wing, woke economics…

Then next election, we can see what FF have done, if they dont get their act together and start delivering, no problem, large incoming seat losses and they can be the junior party…

I mean, there is also the euromillions odds of a new competent party forming, lead by a real leader … But I think we will discount that…

Yeah my current state of thinking is, in a few weeks, it will be the same morons at the helm, but if Harris can be removed as Taoiseach or rotating Taoiseach, even better, FG may then look to replace him. As things stand, I am so used to the other failures and lies, on housing, health, infrastructure, taxation, we cant influence that! We can influence, who will be Taoiseach and as bad as MM is , Ill actually get sick if its Harris! This is from an ex FG voter! I can now try and understand, how the Liberals felt when DJT was elected or how the republicans would feel, if K Harris was elected!

I cannot stand FF, they are worse than FG. Worse again are the greens.

I'm voting FG and FF, not so much because I want them, but because I don't want the others much more than I want ff/fg.

We (as a country) have SF where we need them, behind the 8 ball on low poll numbers and low results at the locals+EU. If we get a good election again we can have another 5 years without being governed by terrorist sympathizers and atm thieves.

Surely FF and FG have routinely been in government because they get the most votes and that's democracy?

ATM thieves? What about the FFG thieves, marginal tax rate of 50% over nothing incomes, to fund the worlds most expensive hospital and bike shelter…

I can't claim that I have any kind of solution to the quagmire we find ourselves in, as a nation. But there is, literally, no one I can vote for (as opposed to just mindlessly voting against) in this country. I don't think anybody truly has the solutions needed to stave off the future disasters that are awaiting us.

Our housing is an absolute mess. Our healthcare is a shameful disgrace. The cost of living is ridiculous. Three things right there that are going to blow up in our faces in a very real way in the not to distant future. And our government, right now, have presided over a system whereby they've allowed these crises to fester, because they don't actually want to try and fix anything. In fact they seem more than happy to let things get out of control because they know that they won't be around to shoulder the blame and it'll be left to someone else to clean up the mess.

Tony, the thing is FFG could obviously fix these things if they want, they have the power , they have had it for decades and they CURRENTLY have finances other first world countries, can only dream of… While we dream of their infrastructure, health service , housing situations etc… They are incompetent, cant be bothered or both… Choose whichever one you think fits the bill…

It comes back to basics, the dont suffer consequences for their failure, so why change? I have given a potential solution… I am all ears to any other ones…

I suggest them as Harris is actually a national embarrassment

Are you embarrased and if so, why?

Is our economy not performing well and in a more sustainable way than before?
Our health system is creaking but to be honest, nobody wants to touch it and to be fair, once your in it, it's great (speaking from experience!).
Or are you embarrased at the housing problem - which is affecting countries all over the world (I had dinner on Saturday with Autralian relatives and am hearing the exact same stories happening over there). We have had additional pressures introduced because of Putin invading Ukraine (which has also contributed to increased food and energy prices). Similar accommodation issues exist across Europe.
Or are you embarrased at the headline grabbing examples of public spending wastage - a bike shed project that had no political input? Yeah - our Taoiseach should be overseeing how the OPW and all other government departments, bodies and agencies conduct their procurement. Or maybe it's the childrens hospital whose final cost will be eye-watering but hile he signed off on the original project, is he responsible for the subsequent alterations to the project? Is he supposed to itemise everything to ensure that it would have been value for money? Is he supposed to know if everything required was included in the original submission or that the plans would be changing frequently due to various change requests?

But then you tell us your wonderful solution to fix the issues in terms of housing, spending, health, etc which is to hand the reins back to the party that led us into the economic tightrope that was the "Celtic Tiger" and its predictable death!?!?
Seriously, are you winding us up?

ok so - taking one item from your list, how do you think they could fix the health system and roughly in what timeframe?

    100% agree.

FFG are utterly incompetent, deeply arrogant and unbelievably smug in power whilst not addressing the serious issues - housing, unregulated and unsustainable immigration and the obscene cost of living crises that will destroy our economic competitiveness, the pressing social fallout of these crises notwithstanding.

I really think that no party is offering a real alternative to the current "I'm Alright Jack" FFG setup and it's depressing.

If you dont get why that boy scount Harris, is a national embarrassment, I am not going to try to convince you. The bar of Irish politics is on the floor, he is below Taoiseach material, that he, can end up leader of a party, never mind leader of a country with a GDP of You think he be representing us on the international stage?

And your proposal is? wait for FFG to deliver? Will another hundred years be enough, or is that asking too much?

The marginal rate has been increased year over year. i remember when it was 32k now it's 42k.

FFG (ie ff+fg, no greens) is my preferred outcome, the others are much worse. Mrs ELM was a SF supporter but is now of the opinion that they have changed from "tans out" to "tans out, everyone else in, at our expense".

Harris is a laughing stock, right. But I couldn't imagine having MLMD representing our country. Could you imagine?

So you don't want to put much effort into defending your own points in your opening post?
Kinda sums up the level of thought you originally invested in your OP!!!

Again, you said they could do it. I'd like to know how it would be approached.
Or were you just venting in a weird attempt to get a load of likes?

You are just ranting, don't have others have to argue your point, show your own housing and infrastructure plans and what processes you'll put in place on the civil service to reduce spending.

Departments heads have usurped all the authority and each government minister gets very quick dose of reality on how the world works. We as an electorate had the chance to abolish the Seanad and didn’t take it. We also rejected arming the dail with the powers to compel people to report to dial committees. That sent a message the people want the same old same old.

Ff FG and there cronies have enriched themselves on every calamity from water metres to housing crash one to fake migrants bonanza and NGO mushroom farm. But a special mention has to go for Harris as the worst of the worst anyone who votes FG next I don’t know. As a former FG voter.

Did you not believe that Renua were the answer, right up to the point where they had zero elected representatives and no leader?

I would take her any day over Harris, any way, you dont need to worry, it is highly unlikely MLM will ever run the country. But we do have the very real farce, of a boyscout, heading up an economy with a serious GDP… . SF have gone off the boil, which makes FFG wreckless economics , all the more baffling.. Do you think Michael O'Leary, would give Harris a job as a coffee runner? I doubt it…

Oh I have no doubt that the likes of Fine Gael and Fianna Fail aren't bothered at all about the situations that face the people of this country. They're happy to see essential social services and social norms become mere commodities. We've abandoned the concept of a home in Ireland and embraced the Americanised ideals of "property". Our health service is, more than likely, being wound down because of the same political aim, to the point where socialised health care will become a thing of the past and health will become something that people can only avail of if they can afford it.

The past and current crop of these ministers, however, will never have to face the realities of the decisions they make. That reality will be bourne out by the people. The ministers at fault will be sitting back enjoying the generous pensions, while there'll be OAPs paying extortionate rents and living with strangers because they were never able to afford a home.

The healthcare system is not "a shameful disgrace". That is an exaggeration.

    Health outcomes have been improving.

I'm not saying it's perfect, but we only hear about the bad news stories.

the marginal rate , being increased at that amount, merely matches inflation, if even…

The opposite is happening. Sláintecare means we are moving towards more tax-financed healthcare.

Consultants are now offfered contracts with public-practice only.

It's been getting worse under FFG. There's no dispute about that.

I'm not saying that it's utterly disastrous at this point, nor is it unrecoverable. But it isn't what it should be or what it once was. And if it's allowed to continue as it's going, it'll only get worse.

Both my parents went through our national health service and received the best of care until the day they died. However, my wife is now over a year an a half waiting to for an appointment with a specialist and there hasn't been a single peep out of them to update her as to what the hell is going on.

That is not anything for a country to be proud of.

Who honestly gives a toss about what Michael O'Leary would do?
Do you really think he would be a good Taoiseach? What would he do with the sick and elderly? What would he do for struggling farmers? What would he do in terms of climate change?

Honestly, this stupid notion that MOL is someone to be lauded above everyone else is, well, stupid!

I accept that waiting times for initial consultations are too long.

And we spend too much on healthcare, relative to the age profile of our population.
