The £365 is a "from" price. Its £385 delivered to the Republic.

So around €450 a ton/ €9 a 20kg bag so same price as Coalwarehouse and few others mentioned in this thread.

The Wray group are selling Arigna Cosyglo Smokeless Coal 50 x20Kg for £385. Which after looking at the government websites, tell me it is made of

approximately 35 to 50% of the total weight), petroleum coke (up to approximately 45% of the total weight), bituminous coal (up to approximately 20% of the total weight) and a starch or other organic binder (up to 5% of the total weight).

which on paper looks a good smokeless coal.

I am currently burning coal warehouse smokeless ovoid on a open fire. Which I would not recommended anyone to purchase.

Ya, have found most brands of ovoids are not great in the open fire.

I do find them good in the stove.

BBut ya the Cosyglo are probably a step up again so not a direct comparator to any ovoid brand

Ok, so Wray do the Arigna Cosyglo

    And

    The Coyle Glotherm.

-. Normally which would be considered the better or would they be equal?

Hi glotherm Comprise of a blend of anthracites and coals up to and between 30% to 40%, pet cokes up to and between 60% to 70% with trace amount of organic plant based dry powder binder as to the remaining weight.

Arigna Cosyglo comprise anthracite (as to approximately 35 to 50% of the total weight), petroleum coke (up to approximately 45% of the total weight), bituminous coal (up to approximately 20% of the total weight) and a starch or other organic binder (up to 5% of the total weight)

So on paper I think Cosyglo is better because it is contains more anthracite so it should give out more heat and be slow burning.

Smokeless coal which have a high % of anthracite usually make more ash. Plus Cosglo has a more binding agent than Glotherm which also make more ash.

If anyone burning Cosyglow or Glotherm we would welcome your review.

FWIW, Arigns cosyglo is produced locally here and therefore is widely used, we've used it in the stove for years and it's very good and consistent. If there is a small premium to pay over a generic nonam brand I'd be inclined to pay it. That said, I got a pallet of ONeills/Coal Warehouse ovoids recently and they are working out OK, but of course I've used them sparingly so far this winter. Ordered another pallet for the mother on Thursday, 340 delivered to outside Longford, to be delivered tomorrow so can't fault the service.

Mind me asking why you wouldn't recommend the CW smokeless ovoids? I have never had issues with them, burn them in a stove and open fire.

There is an error in the original post, should read 440. Apologies for that, big thumbs.

It's definitely getting trickier to get coal delivered across the border.

My usual haulier now needs Swift certs or SGS certs on the pallet or their Northern partner will not collect. Tried Liam Connolly in the North who are part of The Pallet Network. The network members have implemented a raft of rules and charges specifically for coal deliveries since the start of the month... maximum pallet weight of 750kg, an extra £30 surcharge for pallets of coal and all relevant "regulations and paperwork" must be in order or any fines will be levied on the receiver.

The surcharge still applies even if getting delivered to a business location they've always delivered to so you can take it that the hauliers just don't want coal coming through anymore.

A family member ordered from them last Thursday and it was delivered the following morning in the South East.

I've a couple of posts earlier in the thread but my first time ordering them for use in a stove and I'd also not buy again or reccomend.im finding they are burning badly, lots of lumps left the next morning, after about 2 hours burning they are gone right down with not much heat from them even though the oviods haven't turned to ash .

In fairness to CW they replaced my initial order with another, but subsequent bags I'm going through are just as bad

I'm disappointed I didn't just stick with the eco glow oviods I had been using which were a million times better for me

Interesting. Are you using them in an open fire or stove?

I am using them in a stove and find them great.

Got about 10 bags from neighbour 2 years ago and my own half pallet this heat and find both equally good.

Burns down to fine Ash even if sometimes stays in oval shape - no harm. Good heat from them. Like most ovoids find they work best if you put on a decent amount and then just let them work away - I top up with two logs at different stages of the night. I do find with ovoids if you only put on a small few at a time they don't work great.

Perhaps slightly more intense heat from Supertherm (a big perhaps, not sure )but - found the supertherm harder to get going and to keep going.

I'm using them in a stove too, 11kw no backboiler but im not sure if the size makes any difference. Ive tried laying a good hefty amount, slowly adding them in, lighting from top and bottom ect but still all burns the same. Another thing I noticed was ash is more like a sandy brown compared to grey with the eco glow.

I've a friend with a stove who only uses hayes glow lite so going to swop a bag with each other and see what he makes of it and vice versa

I will keep an eye on this myself. Never had issues with previous orders, recently got a new order so I will keep an eye on it.

I ordered a ton of smokeless coal from Maguires for €435 after reading recommendations on this thread. Please don't anyone else waste your money, there is no heat out of them and it hasn't even got cold yet! No way are they on par with golden glow/eco stove, hope it saves someone else from ordering them

no heat and it’s not even winter yet fmd maybe you should contact them and complain

    The internet isn’t for everyone

Asked a delivery driver dropping another item if he was likely to be delivering the coal I ordered and he said as from last week they wouldn't, they did alot before that,he then asked about the the type of coal on order and when I said smokeless he said maybe,, either way without the full details the delivery of coal seems to have been complicated recently.

Mclaughing eco glow anyone with good price on 1/2 ton .find the dandys very good .but when you type in to buy they want €70 for 1/2 ton and €90 for 1ton delivery

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 562 ✭✭✭cathy427

Ya Dandys gone from €45 delivery charge for the half ton to €70. Might be worth giving them a ring to see if they would do anything on the price of the coal itself.

They not doing the ton anymore - doing 37 bags ie 740kg pallet so their price per bag isn't as competitive as it used to be.

The 740kg pallet is to meet the new rule from some of the couriers that max pallet weight is 750kg.
