Cloghleagh near Kilbride. Easily found by putting in St. John's Church into the map.

Yes I sell them and get a good number of orders through my pages and website. Don't want to pull a shameless plug here but if you wish to see my prints, I occasionally share some of my client orders on my social medias.

Ah brilliant. I keep spelling your name wrong 'syran' instead of 'sryan' .

Can you recall a very dry October/ November like this ,sometime between 2003 and 2007 ?

Another stunning day, the amount of Buzzards I've seen in last two days have been unreal, they love the sunny weather.

The new winter coat got good use tonight at football training!

Mild tonight as it clouded over with some drizzle. Colder further South. 1c Dunsany

2007 had a dry mild ish October and November iirc. I've a video of cattle still outdoors and the ground quite dry in hilly south east Laois on 30 November 2007. Exceptionally unusual for us.

Lovely pics Sean, i particularly liked the one of you looking very happy with yourself in the background! I'm looking for some pictures for the house actually, i'll have a glance over your site again (from what i recall, some of your photography is quite something, especially the Spanish pics)

Baltic enough morning here in N.Kildare, 3c and foggy with a red kinda glow (very technical) to the sky, although that's possibly artificial light. I don't know, weird nights sleep with some nightmares.

Cheers thanks. I remember cattle out and it being exceptionally dry in November. I must see can I locate my weather diary for 2007.

    Overcast and dry 8°. Meath.

Looks like to be just above double digits tomorrow morning (how is the wee increase for this few days), followed by this dip in temperatures incoming. May get a tshirt run tomorrow morning before sunrise as looks like the layers needed from the weekend.

Fog not in the forecast for Galway today(apart from hills), but its as bad now in the city as it was yesterday. Visibility is about 100m or less, has gotten gradually worse since 12pm.

Yup, seems to be forecast defying fog. Good visibility this morning, gone to sh*te since 1.

Inlaws say they have great sunshine in the Garden County all morning. Not a peep here. Grey and damp with some drizzle a while ago. 9°

Fog is bad in Dublin now.

Another great morning out, this time at Killiney Hill getting above the dense fog that was over Dublin. A lovely few days after all the grey but back to it now this afternoon.

    IMG_3684.JPG

Lying snow in November in Ireland has occurred in but not limited to:

2019 when a rain to snow event brought snow to some inland including Kildare on the evening of the 13th.

1993 had easterly winds bring snowfalls on 21st/22nd but no information on depths or pics that I have found.

1977 had a few wintry falls but most notably thundersnow Irish Sea streamers from brief northeasterly winds in eastern areas on the 21st. This included supposedly a 12cm depth at 9am at Casement.. RTÉ footage on this one here.

1919 had the most severe mid-November conditions. There wasn't any official ice days recorded as far as I know but temps got down to as low as -11C in Sligo on the 14th and widespread snow cover from the 11th-16th November.

Other possible years I would think that might have contained some notable snowfalls in November were 1878, 1947 and 1952 but information is very limited.

As for ice days, these are all the examples I have with max and location in brackets:

29 Nov 2010 (-1.5C at Mount Juliet, Kilkenny)

28 Nov 2010 (-4.5C at Clonroche, Wexford). The Nov national record low max. Lots of places had ice day conditions this day.

    29 Nov 2008 (-0.1C at Carrickmacross, Monaghan)

    30 Nov 1947 (-1.1C at Shannon Airport)

A near miss to note: 20 Nov 2016 had 0.4C at Horseleap (Offaly). Ballyhaise had a calendar 24 hour ice day (midnight to midnight) on 25 Nov 2016 with a max of -0.3C.

As you can see, there's not much at all and that goes back to 1942. November snow and cold has always been a rare beast and just makes 2010 stand out even more as historic.

Don't worry about it, everybody does it even though it's just simply 's' in front of Ryan.

Yeah you're probably thinking of 2007 which was notably anticyclonic for much of the autumn after such a wet summer. October was exceptionally dry in the east with less than 20mm for some.

November 2004 was also very dry and similarly to the start of Nov 2024, it was also very cloudy. However, October 2004 was wet with severe flooding later in the month for the south.

Spain is getting another battering today, is there any link between the dry weather we've been getting and the deluge they've been experiencing?

It's usually the other way round.

Oh yes, caveat is mine is solely Republic of Ireland.

If we're including Northern Ireland, there's a few more that can be accessed via Roostweather.

Northern Ireland is part of the Island of Ireland. Weather respects no political boundaries.

Thanks Sryan. That's brilliant info as always.

I think you should write a weather events and records book. Give yourself all the time you need.

With the weather stats knowledge, photography and weather forecasting knowledge you have a serious amount of strings to your bow for a young man. Lots of options!

Also based on CET and old weather maps, Nov 24-27 1904 and Nov 23-24 1858 were also very cold and potentially snowy.

Looking ahead, latest guidance is converging on a Tuesday battle as GFS in particular is showing a pushback of milder air and all guidance develops some kind of low pressure near the Irish Sea and or n/c Ireland. Then most guidance has a second low passing south of Cork Thursday into Friday. GFS shows 5-10 cm snowfalls in northern counties only on Tuesday, and 3-6 inland south by Friday.

A strong push of milder air would end the cold spell around Sunday 24th followed by heavy rains and strong winds.

I am not super confident of either snow scenario really working out, as uppers are a bit marginal, and models don't seem to have a very good grip on details yet. No doubt it will get cold enough to see snow settling on hills, but beyond that would assign 40-70 per cent chance sorts of probabilities to lowland accumulations at this point.

So many people asking will it snow in their back garden, 4-7 days out in a far from certain setup. It's just not right to be posting charts that are constantly changing, picking the coldest, snowiest outcomes.

Like most of the post is fine but the headlines, pictures and emphasis are purely designed for clicks.

Amazing first half of November. Very little rainfall and very calm. Great for the outdoors.

2.2mm of rain so far at Mace Head.

What are they doing in the Hyacinth House?
