Well, I withdraw my statement about the Senators holding their powder for Hegseth. This one might be more worthy.

I mean, at least the man has a law degree, so he's not -entirely- unqualified?

I think it is going to be akin to Brexit. Trump is not just a vote, he is the personalisation of many people.

As we have seen, they back him no matter what. Because to do otherwise is to admit that you were wrong. And that is very difficult.

So if things go badly then they will simply make excuses. Like all new administrations they will blame the previous one for at least two years.

Then it will be the very few that raise any issues. People just need to believe more.

It's a pretty curious dynamic in the Senate now with Trump's choice for leader (Scott) failing pretty badly. Though that is a secret ballot and confirmation votes are public so…

This is a really….weird set of appointments in general.

American Conservatives have for years been saying they only talk about the Trans issue because of concerns and about child sex abuse, and the need to protect women.

They now have an adjudged rapist in the White House, and someone under investigation for child sex abuse as nominee for attorney general.

The Republican member of congress being referenced here, is now the President-elect' nominee for Attorney General.

America is in a very very dark place, and everyone who voted for Trump with everything that was known about him holds part of the blame.

After 4 years of dragging the hole out if holding Trump accountable, Merrick Garland could find himself being prosecuted for even pretending he would and should be held accountable for his crimes.

Because it is horrible in practice with the combination of massive humidity with a slightly too cold and slightly too wet tinge for most of the year with brief flashes of summer then repeat.

Only in recent years, because people increasingly think abstractly, has it become the practice to blah-blah each other about how "actually Ireland is perfect because it has a mild climate all year round."

Maybe that is a meteorologist's idea of perfection but it drives people to drink.

Federal employees, sakes, same as here, way too many civil servants and unions run the show, you'd have four people doing one person's job..trim the fat same as Elon did with Twitter.

Twitter is a far bigger loss maker since he purchased it... It's reputation has been ruined and they've lost their major advertisers. Hardly something to be aspired to.

Mild all year round, it pretty much rained non stop for about 9 months from September 2023 to May 2024.

Could barely get out of the house. I was thinking of building an ark at a few stages.

This winter is much better in fairness.

That is a very long winded post.

Ireland isn't the tropics, or perfect, nor does it get aggressive weather patterns like other parts of the world. By all accounts, it is a fairly tame place to live with regards to the climate.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 12,950 ✭✭✭✭Frank Bullitt

And another one. It did no rain pretty much non stop for 9 months, give bloody over.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,985 ✭✭✭growleaves

It's just a few sentences to explain my pov.

Constant assertions that Irish weather is tame/mild/moderate miss the point.

If you favour a very humid, slightly chilled yet mild climate for 10/11 months of the year that's fine - that's your preference - but to a normal person it's horrible.

It has nothing to do with what meteorologists or climate scientists tell people they are meant to regard as ideal.

A normal person? Are you speaking on behalf of all people?

The weather in Ireland won't kill you, compare that to places that get extreme cold, heat, storms, hurricanes, typhoons, floods, drought…you get the idea.

No one is missing the point, you just seem disgruntled that the weather isn't as bad as you make it out to be.

Last night, November 2024, in Michigan.

A protest outside a theatre playing a show about Anne Frank.

    • Nazis in the streets.
    • A sex offender and felon going in to the White House.
    • A man who slept with a child is nominated for Attorney General.
    • A Russian stooge is nominated for director of National Intelligence.
    • A Pro-Israeli illegal settlements as Ambassador to Israel.

Where are the posters who were flooding this place a week ok taking pleasure in Trumps victory? Are you all happy with what America looks like right now?

Absolutely delighted with the team Trump is assembling the icing on the cake is seeing the great and patriotic Tulsi Gabbard as Director of National Intelligence after that put her on a terror watchlist😀

The guy we were told would pull Putin in to line was just told where he stands by Putin showing naked pictures of his wife on Russian TV. Yeah, he's definitely reacting to Trump winning alright.

And all these appointments, it's like the Project Fear of Brexit becoming project reality, except within a week and over 2 months before he actually takes office.

One question, was it all a spoof to you? The faux concern about the safety of women and children etc that we've seen people on here express over the last few years when using it as a stick to beat minority groups with? No one can surely prioritize concerns related to women with this administration, with this President and these characters?

I'd much rather not to have been proven so right about Trump so quickly, and by extension his supporters, but hey, I'll take it.

Of course they're happy, this is what they want. People like Gaetz are a reflection of themselves and their moral vacuity.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,297 ✭✭✭crusd

Well we were told this time around there wouldn’t be the chaos of the previous Trump regime as there was actually a plan to get competent people in the important roles rather than the clown show of the last time. It seems however this time it is going to be an even bigger sh*t show😂

Matt Gaetz 😂. Outside his obvious character flaws he only practised law for 3 years having graduated the 36th ranked law school. I mean if there is any role in which you need experience it’s attorney general. Surely if this was going to be a competent Trump regime there is someone within his campaign who actually has experience?

    The best people!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 23,044 ✭✭✭✭Tell me how

I wonder is this stunt with Gaezt part of a more nuanced plan.

Gaetz nominated for AG. But rejected. And he's then nominated by DeSantis to replace Marco Rubio as Senator.

This might get Gaetz in to a Senator seat and also maybe distract attention from other of Trump nominations so that they might be more easily passed.

Not sure if the timelines involved would support this and don't think DeSantis is aligned with Trump after attempting to oust him during the primaries, but still. Gaetz has resigned his house seat so if he is rejected from AG role, isn't he out on his ear? Johnson said last night that he has spoken to DeSantis already so maybe they're already putting a plan of sorts in the mix and Johnson is definitely Team Trump.

This is 100% an administration picked of 'Ride or Die' people. There won't be any resignations and leaks to the press of what people thought of him this time round.

This is people who have already sold their soul to support him, and now he's rewarding them.

Lyndsey Grahams 'If we select Trump, he will destroy us' is coming to mind again, maybe this is how it happens. Republicans have already gone against him to reject Scott as Senate Majority Leader and some senators are saying they will have major issues with the thoughts of Gaetz getting AG.

It's GoT in real life (as politics everywhere is to be fair).

Speaking of "Ride or Die" people, I do wonder what will become of Guiliani and in particular Mike Lindell.

Both of these characters hitched their wagons to the Trump Train ages ago to the detriment of any other hope or option to them. Lindell in particular faces the loss of his once successful pillow business thanks in no small part to him doubling down on election interference nonsense. I suspect Lindell had hoped for a new Trump White House to save him from oblivion for his loyalty, but my guess is that won't happen.

Donnie kept Lindell at arm's lenght even at the best of times, and there's no real benefit to him to help Mike in any way….therefore he won't.

Lindell in particular faces the loss of his once successful pillow business

There was a time that it looked like this would be the case. But, the last ten days has shown us there's 75M people who will at least probably don't look away when they see a Lindell advertisement or piece.

You can imagine the direct mail advertising he has been pushing for his products. Giuliani is the only of the people who surrounded Trump who stuck it out with him who got any sort of meaningful comeuppance. And that's only because he was too stupid to not target people by name. Kevin McCarthy got burned, but that was because of Gaetz, McConnels wings were clipped a bit the last couple of years, but he still saw out his career to a retirement of his choice. Steve Bannon probably enjoyed serving time for contempt because of how it looks within the community.

    It's quite depressing actually.
