Of course it isn't and its a cheap dig to try and link any politican intending to stand to that incident. As a mod, I could have easily deleted that post (as it does fail to meet the standards required) but I'd like to point out my absolute disgust at it - honestly, that you thought it was appropriate to score a cheap point over her murder speaks volumes about your moral and/or political compass.
I've been aware of that suspect for a few decades now and I've never once thought that political clout somehow created a cover up by AGS - that the ditch reckon there might be might sum up their level of journalism but I'd be curious how everyone supposedly involved kept to the script. Some of the last people I'd trust are politicians and aspirational gardai and yet nobody leaked the story to the media!

Independent Ireland candidate Peter Sutcliffe (formerly coached Conor McGregor boxing) with some vile comments at the most recent Dublin city Council meeting.

Cllr Philip Sutcliffe, who is running in Dublin South Central under the Independent Ireland banner, told a meeting on Monday night: “Let’s talk about why Dublin is not safe. There are so many immigrants on the street selling drugs. You walk down O’Connell Street today, spot the Dub.

“You walk down Dorset Street, spot the Dub. It’s the truth. I walked through O’Connell Street the other night. Six and seven coloured guys at a machine ... That is one of the main reasons why Dublin does not feel safe, that is why a lot of people do not come into Dublin.”

Disgraceful comments but also incredibly stupid. There have been drug and crime problems in Dublin city centre many years before immigration was a thing.

The absolute cheek of Simon Harris to tell farmers not to vote for independents today. Have never seen a politician reek so bad with pretentiousness as that man (well excluding paschal donohoe of course). Flummoxed as to why people think he's popular or giving a "Harris boost" to fine Gael. He's a terrible politician and his history as a politician is testament to this.

I hope farmers come out in waves and completely flood the dail with independents.

There are enough farmers to elected possibly 12 candidates, if they were all in the same 12 constituencies and all voted for the same person.

The unknown is where SF’s core vote is now.

There were rumours on the polling numbers in parts of Dublin cratering. I can’t see them taking a risk like that though with her.

Reality is though, she has 3 competitors (Daly, Boylan and Hutch) off the bat who would ordinarily take some vote from her (although Christy Burke was a pseudo Shinner candidate last time). A loss of national vote share of 7% or 8% vs. last time would make things more difficult for her than needs be. That’s before we think about any unique elements like the far right in the locality. Countering that though is her role as leader and attracting a leafier vote than your ordinary Shinner.

    I can’t see it.

The kind of indos Irish farmers would elect would be only too delighted to prop up an FF/FG government…

MLMD will top the poll by a distance IMO, speculation about her not winning is nuts. There are two safe seats here, FG have learned their 2020 lesson and are only standing 1 candidate, so MLMD & PD will win. Then there are two between perhaps 4-6 candidates (Gannon, Hourigan, Steenson, Fitzpatrick, Sherlock & Daly), on balance I think Gannon will hold on, I tend to believe Hourigan is unlikely to hold and will be replaced by Daly or Fitzpatrick. However, if Steenson can mobilise the racist vote he may pull it off though I doubt it, Hutch has no chance notwithstanding the absurd amount of media coverage he's being afforded.

Something has to give with the number of candidates there is in her patch and any slippage in %. Her getting through I expect but I wouldn’t rule out Pascal topping the poll.

    What a low life.

He probably misses the good old days when it was him and his scrote friends doing the robbing.

    Independent Ireland candidate Peter Sutcliffe

Think I'd rather vote for Peter before Philip. 😂

He could take a seat in Dublin South Central, the SF vote is cratering but O'Snodaigh should still have enough, but the people who voted for him on his hardman reputation could change to Sutcliffe. The retirement of Brid Smith also opens up a space that he could fill.

I'm beginning to lose track of all the promises Simon Harris is making day by day, hour by hour.

When the election was called I felt FG & FF were near certain to get back in again - and, look, they're strongly favoured - but, I dunno, it seems like all the constant spending promises could annoy people over the next fortnight. It just seems particularly cynical.

The gutless wonders could have passed the occupied territories bill in the last twelve months, instead they're promising to send money to landlords via rent top ups paid for by tax diverted from healthcare.

Who will be tuning into this tonight? Is it a first in a series, interviewing the leaders as they aren't doing debate shows?

It is followed up at 11 by

    TonightVMTV
We’re live from 11PM after ‘The Big Interview’ with Taoiseach Simon Harris.

Ahead of #GE2024, we'll be discussing how the parties intend to address immigration and drugs decriminalisation.

Also on RTE the Week In Politics @ 22:35 .

Don’t know the interviewer. Is she likely to hold him properly to account or will it be a puff piece?

It is a series of interviews, Mary Lou next week and Micheal Martin the following week. What about other parties?

My Colette Fitzpatrick bubble is bursting tonight

She’s not great, keeps falling off questions and not following up.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 56,089 ✭✭✭✭Headshot

    I

    She's been absolute terrible

I have to say Simon Harris comes across as such a phony, there's something there that just makes me cannot stand the man.

What's the chances of Helen McEntee keeping her seat and staying in Justice or will there definitely be a reshuffle if FG get back in?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 56,089 ✭✭✭✭Headshot

You have a better chance of winning the lotto than McEntee losing her seat, family ties……

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 18,852 ✭✭✭✭Loafing Oaf

1/50 with Boylesports to hold her seat. Very unlikely to retain justice ministry I'd say, only ministers who really excel are generally kept on when a new government is formed.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,629 ✭✭✭Augme

I wouldnt be too surprised if he wins a seat. I've said all along that I think Independent Ireland will do well and will find themselves a natural partner to FG and FF in Government.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2, Paid Member Posts: 9,454 ✭✭✭corkie

Technically a new government was formed after Leo resigned and Simon balked at his chance to replace her!

'Lawyers for Justice Ireland' on 'Xitter' had a weird theory last week. (Are they true lawyers)

Under what authority did a Government, deemed to have resigned, pass the EU Migration Pact, The Hate Crime Bill and other legislation? Where was their DUTY to do so in order to serve the people of Ireland?

No fan of Simon Harris myself.

Don't think FG will be letting Simon near a camera again

Oh no, he's actually the leader

Mary Lou is going to absolutely distroy him in the 3 way leaders debate

Id imagine even Micheal Martin is happy with the joke he made of himself tonight

Was good to see him getting challenged for once and not the usual

There is zero chance of them joining FF and FG in government. However, ala the 1948 coalition, there is a good chance that they could join SF in government.
