I don't have an issue when the elevation was called etc

Some people are annoyed as the Govt maintained since Harris took over from Leo that the election would be in 2025

People who wouldn't be keeping a track of politics but heard him say that righly may be a bit annoyed that they misled the public

I notice a lot of anger this morning at Micheal O Leary slagging off teachers to rapturous applause from Fine Gael TDs/Senators and members. Not a good look at all

A short campaign is better, 3 weeks is long enough to have to listen to TDs talking sh1te when they call to the door.

FG laughing at teachers with a billionaire.

What sort of political party are they?

Trump wouldn't even stoop so low.

Gaffe number 2 (after Grainnes add in the paper about cancer treatment which hasn't gone down well at all in Galway) of the election campaign and the first weekend isn't over yet

For anyone like myself who is voting independent, keep an eye out for snakes who have just left their parties to register as independent.

Its a rare occurence but this year its going to be very common since the public are very angry at FFG despite the polls saying they're popular.

BTW their popularity peaked when they gave themselves and the public sector massive pay hikes, courtesy the taxpayer who wasnt asked to the negotiating table funnnily enough.

Ah jaysus, a stopped clock is correct at least twice a day.

That thread was pure speculation - do you believe everything thread started on boards? At the same time the politicians had been keeping with theis BS line.

What's makey upey about saying that people make plans around the election date once they know it? Less notice isn't a good thing.

"If people are on holiday and can't vote so be it" - what about the "Postal vote" you were certain off they could apply for?

I don't personally like to find as many problems as possible in Ireland, the opposite in fact - but our political class is getting away with murder - not just the government, but those in oppossition as well.

Even now we see the dance has started to try fool people into thinking that FF and FG have fallen out on specific policy issues and down right don't like each other, thinking we will forget that they were together the past few years.

I agree with the bigger problem as you've defined it - at least half the potential electorage probably wont take the few hours needed to inform themselves and vote.

How many times are you going to post this.

Racism is now hiding behind the cloak of Community activism.

FG TDs/Senators and members at the event gave him a round of applause and loud cheers when he said what he did about teachers

    It's all on video

Saying they don't agree with him now once they seen the public's reaction dosnt wash

It's not a non story. It's very serious and a damning indictment of the sort of utterly vile people in Fine Gael.

Ireland has one of the best education systems in the world and it's down to our excellent teachers.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,134 ✭✭✭Damien360

Half the dail are teachers by profession. This story is called a deflection from real issues. Teachers getting upset is hardly news.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,135 ✭✭✭Peter Flynt

There are not 80+ teachers in the Dáil and even if there were it's the choice of the Irish people to put them there.

napoleon said in his consul he wanted more head, and less tongue.

So I’ll be asking the canvassers which party will give me more head, and less tongue.

Honestly, who would look at teachers to get anything done, that's not what they do or where their expertise are, education reform tends to be chaotic and ends up being forced and we still try and teach Irish the same way as English despite it being proven not to work.

Of course the politician will have to walk it back and deny but I doubt anybody bar teachers would think otherwise (and this is with teachers in the family, not that it matters other than anecdotally).

perhaps instead of looking for something to be outraged over you actually read the substance of my post right?

Clo is complaining that it’s being labelled a giveaway budget because those on 70k income will be about €20 better off and to that end it’s not a giveaway.

However when you consider there’s €1000’s in one off and lump sum payments being made to those on welfare (not just pensioners or disabled people either- but regardless let’s be honest not everyone on DA is in a wheelchair or otherwise severely disabled), that makes it a giveaway budget and that’s where the names come from.

I didn’t give any opinion on whether or not the payments are deserved or otherwise, so again, fcuking calm down. Jaysus.

Ireland is ranked 12 highest in the world in the ratio of house price to income, higher than the UK, similar to Germany, lower than Australia.

Our health service is ranked 23rd of 167 countries worldwide.

We are the 11 least corrupt country out of 180.

    21st in terms of lifespan.

    3rd best educated country

    9th highest average income

3rd safest country. 4th safest for females.

    14th ranked in Happiness Index

Also 14th best country to do business in.

2nd on the Global Peace Index.

    2nd highest GDP per capita

Only 4th highest GNI per capita

What makes you think I'm outraged over something? As for your 'calm fcukin down', it seems there is one of us more then a bit annoyed. It's not me.

I'm merely pointing out that this

This week someone on Disability and Fuel allowance was paid an additional €700 on top of their usual payment. Last week they got a double payment. They’ll get another one in a few weeks too.

Working family payment got a €400 payment this week and I understand that people on living alone allowance are due to or have recently received a bonus €200 payment this month also.

It’s a giveaway as long as you’re on welfare.

Sounds like moaning and insulting people on welfare, my mother is a pensioner, I don't think she would be impressed being told she is on welfare considering she worked her whole life.

I'd say its gaffe #3, FG coming out with an 11% vat rate promise, literally 4 weeks after delivering a budget that said they couldnt do it, is up there as well.

Good luck with trying to tell Michael O'Leary what to say

"Slagging off teachers" and "rapturous applause" love the way the internet never tells the truth

    Who was in crowd?

FG TD has already said he doesnt agree with him

SF desperate for anything to divert from their policies

Fact is thread exists. So plenty of people knew it was coming. You will find similar across social media

If you lived under a rock you might be surprised

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 13,598 ✭✭✭✭flazio

Different parts of that would be weighted differently across the country. On it's own Dublin would not be the 4th safest capital city for females, no way rural Ireland is the 3rd best educated place in the world, or indeed most of those stats aside from the safety.

    This too shall pass.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 524 ✭✭✭harryharry25

Again everyone angered over this is not a Shinner

I'm sure plenty of FF people are very unhappy too but something something SF

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 524 ✭✭✭harryharry25

I think they just came out with that when speaking to journalists as it sounded good

They forgot to mention this would mean an increase in vat rate for gyms etc meaning the hospitality industry will save a few quid but important health things like gym membership would be increasing

    FG in a nutshell

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 20,903 ✭✭✭✭kneemos

Do they have a different educational system in rural Ireland?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,317 ✭✭✭blackcard

The rankings are for the country as a whole. I am not cherry picking by taking safety in rural Ireland or income in Dublin. I didn't make up these stats.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,135 ✭✭✭Peter Flynt

FG just cost themselves thousands of votes. There are 100,000 registered teachers with votes and they and their families will remember this on November 29th.

SF are just highlighting FG's stupidity.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 19,207 ✭✭✭✭kippy

Look, there are threads here predicting tonnes of things. Even the thread you are speaking about was wrong every week until it was right. Ultimately the politicians are responsible for the messaging.

People like yourself who think that the timelines involved were appropriate based on what we were being told surprise me. Why let the politicians off the hook so easily?

The teachers that wanted to keep the schools closed in January 2022?

I suspect many teachers agree with Michael O'Leary's comments.
