Are you prepared to show us the video of the man hospitalised by Maccabi fans in Athens throwing a bottle?

A much better example is you. 45,000 plus people killed, 70% of whom are women and children and suddenly you are concerned about violence against women? Give me a break.

What Female Maccabi fan was beaten unconscious. Sounds like more of the atrocity propaganda invented to actually murder thousands of women.

Are you seriously posting Holocaust videos to explain why a bunch of right wing Israeli soccer hooligans mixed with Mossad operatives got a hiding after they initiated violence?

    Really?

Sure the October 7th attacks were only caused because of anti semitism too. No other reason. Isn’t that the narrative?

The playbook of antisemites according to you and Ian O Doherty is to say it didn’t happen, ok it did happen but not in the way you say etc.

Do you both still believe 40 babies were beheaded on October 7th, that a baby was cut from its mothers stomach and killed in front of her, that a baby was put in an oven?

If you don’t still believe these are you not just following the anti semitic playbook? After all the Israeli prime minister and president said they happened. The media said they happened.

    Well Marko? Are they true?

    That's all pretty antisemitic.

I mean are they not entitled to do that?!

You forgot to include the Holocaust in your joke. Is that next weeks joke for you guys?

if one searches for news of the four Palestinian children blown up and killed by Israel, 90% of the search results are about Israeli soccer fans getting beaten up after starting violence in Amsterdam?

Do you condemn the killing of these children @markodaly are you still more outraged by Maccabi fans getting punched?

The holocaust has already been used by a poster in relation to the attack on Maccabi fans.

I think PJ when the Holocaust is compared to some soccer thugs getting a few slaps after they act the maggot the trivialising has already begun.

Just for clarity, can you confirm for the thread that you're saying that the Dutch authorities and Dutch police are wrong, and furthermore, are peddling mistruth?

If so, why do you think Dutch police are doing this?

And why do you think the media, who are independent of one another, are reporting on Amsterdam in this manner when the exact same media published a report a few days ago that paints Israel in a terrible light?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,147 ✭✭✭SafeSurfer

I have seen the police say the Maccabi fans were involved in violence. The media report the same and then there was a narrative change.

When you say “the media” what do you mean?

Starvation tactics by Israel continue unabated (a war crime).

The "most moral army" questions the report's credibility…

    RTE:

Israel's main military backer the United States had on October 15 warned that it could withhold some of its billions of dollars in military assistance unless it improves aid delivery to the Gaza Strip within 30 days.

With that deadline fast approaching, there has been little sign of improving conditions, with a UN-backed assessment on Saturday warning famine is imminent in northern Gaza.

Aid shipments allowed to enter the Gaza Strip were now lower than at any time since October 2023, according to the Integrated Food Security Phase Classification (IPC) report.

The alert from the Famine Review Committee warned of "an imminent and substantial likelihood of famine occurring, due to the rapidly deteriorating situation in the Gaza Strip".
Israel's military questioned the report's credibility.

You can freely look at BBC or Sky, as two examples.

Both quote the poor behavior of some Israeli fans, something that absolutely no-one has denied, but also what Dutch police are saying about the nature of what unfolded after the game being targeted in nature.

Are the Dutch authorities and police wrong?

I don't think my opinion is infallible, but I generally believe that two things are true - some Israeli fans acted completely unacceptably, and then an unacceptable organised Israeli supporter hunt happened independent of that.

This is also generally what Dutch authorities are saying and what is being reported. But this thread is full of people claiming that Dutch authorities are lying, intentionally, to frame a certain narrative in support of Israel, and the media is pushing this.

Except the same media also, universally reported on that damning UN report.

Amsterdam’s police chief, Peter Holla, said there had been “incidents on both sides”, starting on Wednesday night when Maccabi fans tore down a Palestinian flag from the facade of a building in the city centre and shouted “**** you Palestine”.

Holla said Maccabi had vandalised a taxi, which was followed by “an online call” to mobilise taxi drivers to a casino, where 400 Israeli supporters were present. Police had safely escorted supporters out of the casino, he said.”

That isn't a response, it's just picking a quote that confirms what I already said - some Israeli supporters certainly behaved unacceptably.

But that was never disputed, denied, by anyone - including Dutch authorities.

    From that exact same article.

The mayor of Amsterdam, Femke Halsema, described an “outburst” of antisemitism with “hit and run” attacks on the visiting supporters.

“Men on scooters crisscrossed the city looking for Israeli football fans. It was a hit and run. I can easily understand that this brings back memories of pogroms,” Halsema said. “Our city has been deeply damaged. Jewish culture has been deeply threatened. This is an outburst of antisemitism that I hope to never see again.”

Officials in Amsterdam said that in several places in the city, supporters were attacked, abused and pelted with fireworks and that riot police had to intervene several times to protect Israeli supporters and escort them to hotels.

Residents and businesses in Amsterdam were shocked by what appeared to be organised small groups of people chasing Israeli fans in Amsterdam’s city centre after the match.

Theodoor van Boven, who owns the Condomerie, near Dam Square on the Warmoesstraat, said he saw gangs apparently hunting and chasing opposing fans. “What we saw here in the street in the evening and at night were groups of often Dutch groups who were out hunting, who were looking for Maccabi fans. They were on foot in groups, on scooters, riding round looking, and telephoning each other – it [seemed to be] organised.”

“They saw everyone in yellow [Maccabi Tel Aviv’s home-strip colour], they jumped on us,” a young woman, identified only as Pnina, told the Dutch public broadcaster from Schipol airport. She said her group had hidden in their hotel “until it was safe to go outside”.

So once again, are you saying that Dutch authorities are wrong? Are Dutch authorities purposefully framing this a certain way, and if so, why, and at whos initiative?

In the same way as some Dutch politicians have condemned the Maccabi supporters attacks as Islamaphobia.
The Dutch right wing has strong connections with the Israeli right wing and the Likud party as do many right ring groups in Europe, stirring up anti Muslim, anti immigrant feeling.

I don't think anyone categorically denies that Dutch Football Supporters and Dutch civilians reacted to the provocations by Israeli football supporters. Neither reaction is justifiable in any way. I don't recall any post here calling the Dutch Authorities "liars". But to use media reports as "evidence" and "fact" is premature. People have been arrested, they will be questioned and evidence will be examined by the authorities. If warranted, persecutions will ensue and those accused will have their day in court to defend themselves. If found guilty, they will be punished.

Presumably the Maccabi Haifa supporters chanting hate speech in Ben Gurion Airport will equally be questioned by Israeli authorities and if found guilty, equally punished. But I doubt that very much.

To equate what happened in Amsterdam as clear proof that Israel is facing an existential threat and a pogrom, is a stretch too far.

Once again you have not answered the question.

You've posted a perfectly acceptable link expressing a perfectly acceptable opinion.

At no point has anyone denied that some Israeli supporters behaved in an unacceptable or disgraceful manner. These behaviors are also reported by every media organisation going.

What this hinges on is the organised hunting of Israeli supporters that Dutch police and authorities have condemned and believe was an organised action.

Are Dutch authorities and police wrong? That is the central question.

Are you asking me if authorities can be wrong and even tell untruths to fit a narrative?

    No?

But there's a difference between the literal President of Israel making a personal claim, and why he would say that, and an entire network of authorities in a different EU country, I am sure you can appreciate that.

Again, for clarity, you are at a minimum saying that Dutch authorities are unreliable and not to be taken at face value?

Why? If its not factual or evidence based, what motive do Dutch authorities have to take the position they have taken? Who is dictacting they present the situation this way?
