People who work and like to work will have an issue with voting SF.

Ireland has more options to vote for than most countries

Saying that voting SF is the only option is just spin from SF supporters

Unfortuneatly in Northern Ireland people have little choice but pick the incompetence of SF. Lucky in Ireland we have lots of options.

Oh completely. Martin was an idiot. He wanted to be Taoiseach so so badly

What are they doing in the Hyacinth house?

We had a local FF county councilor on the door step with a few of his local support and younger FF county councilor colleague about 4-5 weeks ago. Running for TD and I asked him sure I thought ye were going full term - just laughed back at me.

I suppose they had very little wriggle room in when the election will be based on:

    1. A giveaway budget fresh in the minds of a lot of the electorate.
    2. The need to pass that budget (and not have the election earlier than that window)
    3. Christmas season.
    4. Trollies if the go to February
    5. Generally the absolute sh1tshow that the main opposition is dealing with/has turned into over the past few months.
    6. The results of the local elections.

As others have stated - its a fcking farce that these guys are allowed to say for the last few months that they are going full term, absolutely no chance of an early election etc etc, they call an early election. I know a politicians only job is to get votes and they should never be trusted but really?

SF are in a mess at the moment as well - with people leaving the party left right and centre - I don't beleive they have the numbers of people running with the right profile at the moment to actually win an election - if people even voted for them in big enough numbers.

With your track record of predictions and totally incorrect statements

This means MM is a total genius with a higher IQ than anyone in the World

FYI he was Taoiseach, calling him an "idiot" 🤣

    Giveaway budget?

Who is getting this giveaway budget?

IN reality a person on 70k will end up with circa 20 quid extra per week next year. How anyone can claim that is a giveaway budget is ridiculous IMO.

The difference between 4 years and 9 months and 5 years seems functionally indistinct from a full term to me. Calling it an early election seems fairly absurd.

You've obviously missed all of the budgets from circa 2009-2020 or so.

    Yes it's a giveaway budget.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 20,034 ✭✭✭✭kippy

    It's an early election as:

    1. They haven't gone full term.
    2. They have been saying for months that they would go full term.

Biggest issue I have are the blatent lies and deception - par for the course I suppose.

Liking the first 5 mins of Prime Time tonight, Reeling in the years style summary of the last 5 years of government, I'm sure it'll be up on RTEs twitter in a bit

Micheal Martin has already said he won't go into Govt with SF so that means he's planning for FF/FG again

Leaving aside Martin's clear ideological preference, FF/FG look to have a good shot at an overal majority, and if they don't make it will almost certainly go very close. Whereas did suddenly decide they preferred SF as partners after all, they would almost certainly need a whole clatter of independents and small parties to make up the numbers…

I predicted the election in November when you were telling us all the opposite. I believe your credibility has been shot to pieces long ago. You even disappeared for a while.

Stick to the point. How have FF ministers fared in Health, Housing and Education? Spectacularly badly.

What are they doing in the Hyacinth house?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,128 ✭✭✭harryharry25

Oh I'd agree but a problem may occur for FF and Micheal, if FG have alot more seats than them

Micheal wouldn't be guaranteed go at Taoiseach then and you can bet your bottom dollar he wouldn't like that

By your definition we have literally never had a Dáil go "full term" thus rendering the phrasing completely pointless. This Dáil's term has been roughly as long as every other Dáil that is described as going full term.

Yes but Harris pretending to be having the election in February was absurd. It made him look extremely foolish. Nobody believed him. Except one poster here. He was trying to be clever and it backfired.

O'Gorman decided the date, Martin leaked the announcement. Harris sulked and timed his own late announcement for the day Trump was elected. Not smart. FF have been outplayed for 4 years by FG but they are fighting back.

What are they doing in the Hyacinth house?

It was a bit silly yes. However I don't think anyone in the real world actually cares or considers this an early or snap election though. It is entirely in line with when "full term" elections are called.

Well 2009 was post the crash….plus a number of years after

In terms of the "giveaway budget", as per my example thats not a giveaway budget no matter how you try to push it online.

How many times in the last 4 years have you predicted an election 🤣

Blind luck is not a prediction by the way, the first 20+ times when you got it wrong kinda blew the credibility you seem to think you have.

"You even disappeared for a while", you miss me?

Everyone should take a break from social media the odd time. tracking people online, strange. Maybe you should try it

You didn't make that point did you? You called MM an idiot. Then you claim others "credibility" has been shot to pieces. Ignroance is bliss.

Still going to vote back in the same TD's this time and then complain when they do f**k all, then of course blame other parties who you didn't vote for because nothing got done? Great plan a chara!! best of luck with that one.

Why don't you find a single post where I predicted an early election.

Go on Clo Clo, put your money where your mouth is. A single post. Prove your credibility just once.

I have always always prayed for a full term. I want FF and FG to be seen as 2 sides of the same coin. It's working too.

    Waiting for that post....

What are they doing in the Hyacinth house?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 20,034 ✭✭✭✭kippy

    No it hasn't.

Why would they lie and deceive the populace if "seeing out" the term would have gone at least into 2025?

Spending has ballooned, welfare bonuses galore. Of course income tax cuts are nearly non existent, that's the total irony of the last few years, FG for all their waffle, are more interested in welfarers, than workers...

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,510 ✭✭✭History Queen

Have you any idea what a dictatorship actually is?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 20,034 ✭✭✭✭kippy

    I

It is of course a giveaway budget.

Theres literally billions in additional monies being spent over last years budget…..

There's double this and double that being given out at the moment and in the next couple of weeks, energy credits (with energy costs going down) major changes to income tax bands etc etc.

Going against the fiscal advisory council etc etc………

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,088 ✭✭✭Clo-Clo

Great detailed post, double this and double that

We got energy credits last year and didn't we get them before?

Dont the profits the government get from the electricity companies pay for the energy credit?

As I said, 20 quid extra a week for someone on 70k. Is that a "major change" because based on the price of a basket of shopping that 20 quid won't even cover the inflation since 2022.

As the price of things go up, the percentage of tax stays the smae so the amount of tax goes up. Fairly basic stuff

So who is getting this "giveaway budget"?

Do you think someone on 70k a year and gets an extra 20 euro, compare to 2022 for instance. Who is better off here? the person on 70k or the government and their tax intake across what the person has to buy to live?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,088 ✭✭✭Clo-Clo

    Tax has ballooned hasn't it?

We have the close to the lowest unemployment in Ireland at the moment.

Hardly something to get the hump over now is it?

Or you unhappy that carers etc getting some extra money?

Again refer to my point above, when these people spend their money how much tax are the government pulling back in.

The government gave us a few bits and pieces. Selling it as a "giveaway budget"

F**k me you have low requirements if you call that a giveaway

    😂

Just deny everything, that's a shock

    Then you talk about "credibility"

You seem to have plenty of time on your hands if you keep a track of me, sorry I don't have time to read over all your posts.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 14,747 ✭✭✭✭hotmail.com

And Irish society has changed so much since then and yet the voting process remains the same. Farcical.

They've finally axed the broadcast moratorium. At least that's something.

QED. Not one shred of proof. More lies from Clo Clo. No proof for anything. Tatters again.
