Would agree with this. I still don't believe most Americans like Trump. The Democrats have become so disconnected from what the average person cares about. They can yell about threats to democracy all they want but the reality is most Americans just want it to be cheap to buy groceries and fill up the car, to feel safe in their streets and not spend billions on wars in other countries.

So can his followers finally admit the election in 2020 wasn’t rigged?

Seems they are so sure he’s been elected fairly today.

    Jesus!

    I am NOT supporting Trump.

    I've not once praised Trump.

I said he was a horrible person and a horrible candidate.

I am only commenting about people claiming that the reason Kamala Harris lost was because of sexism and racism.

But as per bloody usual, this means I am a card carrying Trump supporter because I think it's possible that she lost because people just simply didn't like her and were sick of the Democrat party.

Christ, you are right! I naively thought that he'd bow out at that point. Might have passed away by then also given his age.

I responded to your post about how someone else views Trump supporters.

That was pretty clear. I'm explaining how views are formed around that.

I'm not calling you anything, and don't care whether you are one or not.

If he made it worth American MNC's while to shut up shop here and relocate back to the US, we would be properly screwed.

    absolutely agree with this.
most people cannot stand Trump. But, when you see billions being spent in other countries while you can’t feed your family, while working three jobs… the result is Trump as President.

Not completely. But they are in the minority right now it looks like.

What can he change, he cant go after our corporation tax, he cant make Pharma pull out as they have to be based in the EU to sell here, do you realise how powerful the Pharma industry is.

It never ceases to amaze me that so many regulars on this thread don't appear to have the intellect to differentiate between criticism of Harris and support for Trump.

Whatever happened to Trump's claims of cheating in PA?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,245 ✭✭✭Yvonne007

Apologies if I misread it. But you didn't want to engage in a point. You took the last line of my post, which stevie wonder would have realised was tongue-in-cheek and decided to bring up the insurrection which has no bearing into what my conversation was about.

The conversation was about people claiming that anyone that didn't vote for Kamala were ignorant, sexist or racist instead of considering that perhaps the Democrats just ran a terrible campaign.

I think it all boils down to the fact that while Trump is an odious character who would usually be unfit for President, he is very charismatic in a field of politicians who lack charisma and he knows what people want to hear.

On top of this, the Republican Party have figured out their message, they know how to at least pretend to care about how well off the average person is, and they go after that.

The Democrats are still too obsessed with identity politics and this isn't landing with enough voters, they simply don't care enough about this issue. It's not a right vs left thing, it's just not something that's high up enough on their list when it comes to who they vote for.

Harris was a crap candidate who was selected without challenge too late in the day. Biden made a balls of it by trying to run again, a lot of the blame for this must land squarely on his shoulders.

She was VP so an obvious strong contender to be selected as the candidate, but she was never a particularly visible VP, it's not like she spent the last 4 years building up to this. As well as this, Biden was IMO a fairly uninspiring President. Yea he got stuff done but the man just came across as old and tired any time he spoke. He was the best of a bad lot in 2020, it's not like he led some transformational movement of the Democrats like Trump has done with the Republicans.

It's absolutely bizarre to me. It was obvious Biden was very likely to be a one term President, so either they had 4 years to propel Harris to the level she needed to be (which they didn't), or they had to have a proper convention to select their candidate. They made the same mistake in 2016 which is why they ended up having to run an aging Biden in 2020.

The candidate was bland, the campaign was bland, the Democrats need to have a re-think of their approach cause blandness is obviously not what voters are after. They've been humped here, beaten in every battleground state.

In what way is he sexist? In what way is he racist? In what way is he ignorant of the climate? Could you give specific examples?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 35,689 ✭✭✭✭Penn

I think the only positive to take from this, as bizarre as it may sound from someone who wanted Harris to win, is that Trump is President and the GOP have the Senate, possibly the House, and a very conservative SCOTUS. They now have all the cards.

So fine, let's see if their policies work. Let's see if/how the economy improves for the average American. Let's see if fears about the likes of Project 202 were unfounded. Let's see if Trump handles the Russia/Israel situations better.

They now have no guardrails. Let's see how they do. They'll either prove the were right all along, or potentially cause enough of a mess that either the Dems or a significant bipartisan effort is required to fix it. But they hold all the cards, so let them play them.

As it turns out, despite the crowing, the polls were bang on.

Also likely the end of Alan Lichtman's career as a presidential prognosticator, but he's 77, so he's entitled to a rest.

To hold gun ownership above social safety is a very right wing view, if right wing is everyone for themselves, which I think we can agree is accurate.

Trump is actually the anti government president, US radical individualism.

Trump prides himself as a dealmaker, so I am sure it would be well within him.

No, you responded to my post about how someone else views people who abstained from voting.

They impact a small number of people but everyone has an opinion on them.

When it comes to gender and identity clearly a lot of people feel threatened by the Democrats take on it.

I tuned out in 2016, and I tuned out from Biden when he carried over Trump's conspiracy theories and protectionisms.

But I don't think this is as bad for us some think. There are a lot of US companies who want to avoid being penned in by trumpism, they need markets too.

I didn't post much on this thread over the election cycle as it was just an echo chamber.

I did post the above a week ago.

It was a very easy election to call if you just looked at the big issues as Americans see them.

Pure naivety, stupidity, arrogance and a baseless assumption of moral superiority by the Dems.

And here we are with Trump in the WH again.Hes a terrible person by every metric but people care about issues and not personalities.

Just to complete the total FU he won the popular vote (I didn't see that happening)

I hope we can learn from this.Listen to what the electorate are telling you.…

Previously I had read reports that Bidens people were keen to keep Harris on the periphery so as she wouldn't upstage the president.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 12,346 ✭✭✭✭MadYaker

We heard talk of this last he time and he did **** all to make US MNCs relocate jobs to America. You can’t airlift a factory from Dublin to Montana, just plonk it there and fill it with Americans. Especially in heavily regulated industries like pharma and med tech. For those corporations relocating manufacturing capacity is really complicated, expensive and time consuming.

Trump back in won’t affect us anymore than it did last time. If he does pull the plug on Ukraine there’ll be a load more Ukrainians here, that’s the only tangible affect I’m expecting.

I'm not a democrat or even American. I am someone who is in posession of eyes and ears and a working brain.
I know fascism when I see it and I don't care if the majority voted for him. If the majority a morons, I will call them that.
This is bad for the world and anyone with more than three braincells will see that.
I'm not there to mollycoddle or persuade anyone or make sure not to hurt their poor little feelings, I just deal with facts here.
The idiots who voted for him will regret it once the greatest circle-jerk by racist a-holes in the history of the world is over when they are poorer, have fewer protections and rights, but billionaires will celebrate this for decades to come.
I don't care if I was the only person on the planet saying this, but I will never stop to say this or to call out deplorables.
