Lol. You are proving my point for me.

People who voted for Trump were either Trump fans or sick of Democrats. They may have held their nose and voted Republican because they felt their country was in decline.

Also, people who were undecided may have chosen not to side with people who sneer and jeer them because they weren't 100% Kamala.

It actually made me smile. I read it and was like, 'Thank you, that's exactly what I expect some posters on here to be thinking, and then one of you goes and sets up an account specifically to tell us'. It's very telling.

Just like in 2016, I woke this morning to a good laugh!!

For all the accusations of stupidity, racism, far-right and all that other idiotic nonsense, it turns out that people just don't like being talked down to and insulted by rich, cossetted celebrities, politicians, and their friends in the media. It didn't help that their candidate was a charisma vacuum with all the appeal of a soggy bag of chips.

Trump at least ran in an election. He may be a terrible human being but it's not supposed to be about who you like best, but who you think will get the job done.

The Dems have only themselves to blame. If they had any self-awareness they should spend the next 4 years looking inward at how it all went wrong.

the weapons manufacturers in the US will be very unhappy too. People who have problems solving five point ‘join the dot’ puzzles will not be be able to appreciate this unhappiness though.

The big difference with Ireland is there isn't, and I can't stress this enough, a sensible alternative. We've had the history of FG Vs FF for a century with coalitions(Labour, Greens etc) to make up the numbers for one of them to get in. Now FFG are one party, the Greens aren't needed(thank Christ and good riddance)to make up the numbers and Sinn Fein's policies vary with the wind aimed at whatever will get them in. Yahoos like PBP and the NP are loons with bugger all support. Independents are a very variable lot, but couldn't form a party because they vary too much and even if one was the Second Coming of sense and sensibility it matters not a jot.

As for America, well Americans have voted and they want Trump. Outside of his core nutters screaming they're eating the dogs & killing the squirrels! I suspect for many it was as much they didn't want Harris. Trump is a grifter, but the culture has always had a soft spot for same and tends to go for the sizzle not the steak and Trump is all about the sizzle. Well he couldn't even sell steaks... Harris redefined lacklustre and imho for many a vote for her was more about Not Trump, than pro her.

Imho what they really got was Vance and for me Vance is potentially way worse than Trump and now they have him a heartbeat away from the reins and when Trump goes away, either during his four years or after, Vance is a near shoe in for president down the line.

Many worry about Artificial Intelligence. I worry far more about Organic Idiocy.

Trump is a real person. A real person has flaws. The Democrats assassination attempt on him and throwing Legal cases at him did not go unnoticed by the public.

A dark day for the United States and it's allies. Unbelievable how they could vote in such a disgusting human being

He will pardon himself, change a few things to keep his backers happy and then go play golf for 4 years while letting the state look after itself. A lame duck president would be a great result for the most part.

They've nobody else to blame, the republicans have been given the keys to the kingdom now, let's see what they do with it..I'm sure Musk, Miller, Bannon, Thiel etc. are spinning up their wildest fantasies now to implement in their first 100 days...nobody can say they were hoodwinked or misinformed in their vote

For all the accusations of stupidity, racism, far-right and all that other idiotic nonsense, it turns out that people just don't like being talked down to and insulted by rich, cossetted celebrities, politicians, and their friends in the media.

Or, you know, they like the racism, and far right ideology and controlling women and ignoring facts and so on and so on.

This 'oh they don't like being talked down to' I'm seeing from different directions this morning, is screaming, 'We know what he is, but it's your fault for how you told us'.

We're not buying it, people of a particular mindset chose a candidate with a particular mindset. They didn't know for sure what that mindset was in 2016, they did yesterday.

Also. you're going to have to lay off the 'rich cossetted celebrities, politicians and their friends in the media' nonsense given the richest man in America being on stage with Trump so much and the host of the worlds most popular podcast joining up with that man to endorse him at the weekend. Oh and 'members of the media' Tucker Carlson and Megyn Kelly appearing on stage at rallys with Trump in the last week or so.

It was a very astute move by Finland. Decades of Finlandization, but then when the opportunity presented itself during the Biden window they seized it.

Yeah that another hilarious excuse. Complaining about wealthy celebrities when Donnie fcking name checks Elon Musk in his acceptance speech.

I hate to say it but I hope he makes it through, Vance may actually be a worse possibility, albeit more eloquent and together.

Are ~50% of Americans ignorant racist misogynistic far right bigots?

Like ~75% of Irish people are far-right according to polls?

Keep crying. This level of hate for a person is mirrored in the Democratic Party and does not go unnoticed by the electorate.

I dunno. Vance couldn't win a rigged election and is probably easier to buy off.

Trump could very well win a third term in 2028 and since it's looking like he's going to have the house, the senate, the supreme court and the immunity shield they've given him this time that's a real possibility.

Totally - a far more scarier prospect - I think the religious might be praying Trump stays alive for the next 4+ years

I don't know, but at least enough of them are to vote successfully for one of them as President.

That's not the same thing at all, Finland was never part of Russias sphere of influence, Ukraine was

Like I said, the current situation where Ukraine looses countless people and the line barely moves is folly

I guess they'll be reinstalling the diet coke button on the Oval office desk.

I was a penniless immigrant in NY back in the late 80s and even then I could not understand why the guys I worked with in landscaping thought this Donald Trump guy was great. Their idea of a live show was a strip club. It was obvious that Trump was superficial, but I guess he was a poor guys estimation of what a rich guy was and they all felt they too could become him.

I was an very average student in school in Ireland, but in the US I felt like a genius and that was probably the main reason I didn't stick around when there were plenty of avenues to get legal. The cops would be drinking in Irish bars with lads they knew were there illegally, it was different time.

Honestly, this morning I feel it's only been reaffirmed that the US is getting a very representative president. It does feel like the end of the US era in global politics.
