Sky News have called PA for Trump!!!!

They said the results could take weeks! It hasn't, it's taken hours as it's a decisive win!!

    Indeed.

5 American corporations make up something daft like 29% of our GDP.

If he gets his way, we could be in a spot of bother.

Clever word play may win debates, but it doesn't make it true.

Understanding and explaining things, is not the same as justifying them, if in doubt… please re-read this statement.

I was responding to someone who thought Trump was 300/1. We can go into the nitty gritty if you really want but seems a little off topic and unnecessarily complicated. I will clarify with the words entice in future. I was not referring to the handicap markets, as I am sure you are well aware by the fact that we didn't mention them, bit much to start posting the numerous variations still on offer.

one (very obviously pro choice) Sky News correspondent was incredulous earlier that a pro-life punter didn't want abortion rights decided by the states… (which is exactly what overturning Roe v Wade did)

    So....

... did anyone see that ludicrous display last night?

I knew Melania’s book would help get him over the line- that was the October surprise and ye all mocked me for saying it - in your face now 😀🤪🤪

Listening to RTÉ radio - Black vote for Trump @ 20% - unprecedented

Explanation: Well black, Latino whatever - these people are have been settled in America for decades- they’re 2nd and 3rd and 4th generation - they’re voting on issues they feel are important to them-

A very interesting point - it’s like as if the Democrats have lost that near unconditional support that they had for decades - they’ll now have to fight for it a lot more in future

The mood on BBC and Sky is very solemn, almost like someone has died, beautiful to see them so downbeat lol.

Any US companies headquartered here will need longer than Trumps term as president to organise relocating their corporate headquarters back to America.

There was no exodus of US investment last time around, and Trump has a business operating here himself so I wouldn't be jumping to that type of conclusion.

There remains a massive issue for Ireland regarding the way we structure our economy in this way, and eventually the house of cards could come tumbling down and successive Irish governments have failed to address that.

Perhaps with a looming general election our political class could get their fingers out of their backsides and turn their attention to running the country properly instead of calling the electorate names for a change.

    Glazers Out!

If I miss understood the context, apologies. May have fired too soon.

In general most comments in this thread had a poor grasp of betting markets, how odds work, etc. They are far sophisticated than people think.

Yeah but if you tried telling people that here over the last 3 months and you’d be lynched - that was half the problem with the democrats - they were so far up their own righteous arse that they approached this as a moral crusade not an election - they ended up preaching - not a good look at all - as for some of their supporters, listening wasn’t in their skill set - they’ve paid the price and they deserve it

I suppose the pun there would be "she always tries to 'woke' it in."

Well at least we know in 4 years it finally comes to an end. We survived the first 4 years, we'll survive the next 4.

    This too shall pass.

Elon won't get to Mars (though I hope he does somehow).

i reckon spacecraft, yes. and landed safely. (possibly some basic infrastructure for future missions) but not humans

It's racism, sexism, years of propaganda about "something, something woke", "something, something communism", the woeful failure of the American education and mental health systems, combined with a healthy dose of nationalism, inbreeding and indoctrination through home "schooling" (i.e. bible study).
If the US wasn't such an internationally important country, we could ignore it, but this is definitely not a good sign for the entire world.

I will still call his supporters for what they are. Just because the stupid are in the majority, doesn't make them right and now we'll have to call them out even more.

In the end they will get what they paid for. At best, four years of stagnation at worst, Germany 1934.

I’ll be honest, if Harris won I’d have probably come on to needle a few of the centrists but in reality I would have also said they would have been lucky their man lost as in all reality he doesn’t care about them. He doesn’t care about anyone but himself and would have been bad for them, America and the world.

But alas, here we are. America has chosen to re-elect a convicted felon. A racist. A sexual abuser and just a horrible person in general. It says it all that two of the happiest people in the world this morning will be Netanyahu and Putin.

You have to respect democracy even if it’s a bitter pill to swallow but I think the world will rue this election.

..... after 4 years of " senile nonsense" , it will be a refreshing change.

    My condolences ....... 😭

I’m genuinely shocked not that trump won but the manner in which it appears he will win. Yeah was Harris the best candidate ? No, not really but unlike in 2016 when trump didn’t have a political record to be judged on, he did this time around and America as a whole seem okay with that. So, I have zero sympathy for the Americans if things go to **** the next four years.

Trump has said he relied on experienced people the last time because he didn’t know what he was doing and they kept him in check.

Let’s see in the democrats can have a genuine soul search and understand why they lost this election. I very much doubt that will happen but it should.

No point in immediate postmortems given, as Jon Stewart points out here: they’re almost always, always bullsh*t, TLDR,

2008: “the beginning of post racial America” (looool)

2012: “Republicans need to appeal to Hispanics with respect” (kind of true given tonight’s result apparently with gains among Hispanics, but in such a strange way of Othering Hispanics, especially Mexicans over the Wall TM to win 2016 and calling immigrants rapists etc.)

2016: “Democrats need to pick a new younger generation of candidate” (Joe Biden????)

2020: “after the insurrection Trump will never be allowed back in the White House” (…..)

Past my bedtime, see yall tomorrow
