Oh I agree. He's just a guy with podcast. It can be an interesting, free form conversation, podcast. But it's just a podcast nonetheless.

In any case, if Rogan's endorsement actually changes anyone's mind on who they're going to vote for today (even if he opted for Harris), then I would suggest that that person needs to really reevaluate their life.

In fairness to Joe Rogan he has been consistent with that. He's always done his podcast in his studio and apart from a brief period during the Pandemic he always does in-person interviews. He's also finicky when it comes to his UFC commentary job. He only does the pay per views and never if they are outside North America (so probably just 8 or 9 events a year out of the 40+ that they run).

I'd imagine Trump was given the same conditions.

In fairness to Joe Rogan, he does not need to do any type of grift. The guy has been raking it in.

There was nothing to be had by Harris going on Rogan.

For some reason his nonsense pops up sporadically on my YouTube shorts.

"Chuck Norris what a the man - Roll the clip" As 2 lads get a semi watching Norris swing round houses.

You'd want to be lobotomised to watch that absolute scutter.

It is like he watched Wayne's World and thought it was a documentary. So he emulated it.

In fairness I can kinda understand that from Rogan's perspective. All his shows are at his place and he aims to just have a pretty free-flowing conversation with people rather than any timed interview (I think his podcasts for years haven't been worth the data they're stored on, but that's another matter). But it's also the height of arrogance to assume that a serving VP, nominee for President, in the last few weeks of a campaign, should travel to his place for a podcast. Rogan's podcast simply isn't that important to do. Harris offered him a little bit of time for a sitdown in the midst of her schedule, but it wasn't what Rogan does, so he said no. I can't really fault either side for not coming to agreement on something.

Trump did it because Rogan's base is more aligned with Trump's base, he knew it'd be a soft interview/podcast, and he didn't mind then being hours late to his next rally because of it.

Rogan endorsing Trump is no surprise. If anything I'd say he was looking for something reasonable he could hang his endorsement on, and when nothing reasonable came along, he just had to say that Musk's argument for Trump convinced him.

Looks like JD Vance might not have the bottle for Trump's shenanigans should he lose

    Speaking after voting...

“We do expect to win” Vance told reporters outside the polling station. “But obviously no matter who wins, half the country is gonna be at least partially disappointed, I think my attitude is the best way to heal the rift in the country is to try to govern the country as well as we can.”

You are not missing much, just a flood of bots

Vance is probably glad he's not in the same position Pence was in 2020 with regards certifying the election results. It's one thing that they were chanting "Hang Mike Pence" on Jan 6th, but with Vance they could sing "Hang the JD" to the tune of The Smiths' song.

I've stuck a couple of small bets on, Harris 270-299 EC votes & Harris 300-329 EC votes. If she gets more than 329, I'll happily lose the money.

    Snap (on all three)

270-299 I cover both bets, 300-329 get almost 200. 330+ happy to lose the money

I am hoping for Trump win but I put a fiver on Harris to win just before Biden pulled out at 7/2

Will buy a takeaway if she wins. :)

breakingnews have a good time guide of when polls close (and results are tallied) across various states in Irish time

    https://www.breakingnews.ie/us-election/us-election-what-times-are-results-expected-where-can-i-watch-1691012.html

    These are the important ones

    12am - Georgia (16).

    12.30am - North Carolina (16)

    1am - Pennsylvania (19)

    2am - Arizona (11), Michigan (15) and Wisconsin (10)

    3am - Nevada (6)

Given how long it took last time for Pennsylvania to call, our best chance of knowing by early tomorrow morning is Georgia and North Carolina getting their acts together

A high turnout should favour Harris especially a high female turnout.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 12,258 ✭✭✭✭Rjd2

Normally I agree , high turnout always favors the Dems, but Trump is trying to get out less frequent voters such as young males and obviously trying to make inroads with different demographics, if he somehow gets them out and I am skeptical of the bro's coming out he wins, but its a massive if.

The Harris core voter especially females will come out in their droves.

There's a big difference between not holding large rallies and not being able to fill a large rally.

So yeah, is Elon Musk buying votes here?

    image.png

Realistically: he's infinitely more likely, if Trump loses, to weasel out of this promise, especially given that it's awfully hard for many people to provide proof they voted that he is likely to find acceptable for this challenge: an 'I voted' sticker won't cut it and you aren't allowed to take photos inside a polling place, and many states make it illegal to take photos of your ballot. So it's a dare with very little chance of Elon paying up on, but it is funny in that it seems to tacitly encourage people to vote against Trump on the promise of $1,000, which sounds an awful lot ironically like an illegal scheme to buy votes, albeit against Trump.

I remember back in 2016, the first results came in and the numbers were well down on the expectations for HC. It was clear from the first result that Trump was going to win.

So watch the 1st result and compare it to the polls/expectations. Harris will have either got the women's vote and out in significant numbers or she won't. That clears up the lack of lack of confidence in the polls.

Rogan doesn't need her, so why would he upset his routine and way of doing things when he doesn't need the interview.

You could argue she needed the interview significantly more as it could have helped her influence a demographic that she is not as popular with.

She could have potentially lost out on an opportunity to get more votes , he lost out on nothing as his audience will remain unchanged by her non appearance.

Paraphrased part of Musk's interview with Rogan:

ELON: "How can it be that we live in America, supposedly the land of the free, and the Government can barge into your home with guns, and take your pets and execute them. If they can do that to your pets, what do you think they can do to you?

ROGAN: "Why would you kill that cute little squirrel. The interactions that guy had with that squirrel was wonderful."

ELON: "It was a beloved pet squirrel and raccoon too and the Government barges into people's house and kills them. This should get people mobilized. You saw John Wick right? They tried to offer John Wick tons of money and he said no I'm out, then they killed his dog, and it was a bad idea."

ROGAN: "They shouldn't have killed that squirrel. They f***ed up."

ELON: "They shouldn't have killed that squirrel. It's just a f***ing squirrel. It's not a crocodile or an anaconda. They're spending your tax dollars to come and execute your pets? What the f**k is going on? We have to fight back against this."

ROGAN: "Did you know that squirrels in the wild can bite each others nuts off? They thought that the squirrel wouldn't be able to survive in the wild so they euthanized it. How about they just leave it with the owner instead?"

ELON: "I don't know man, just get out there and go vote for Peanut."

God, I wonder why Harris didn't make time to sit with Rogan for three hours…

Also, Musk's head would explode if he ever heard of Breonna Taylor, or even the number of dogs killed by cops every year.

Just a thought, if he's giving his entire fortune (which is a LOT) to people who can prove they voted and only a handful of people vote it means that small handful of people are in for one hell of a payday

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 86,725 ✭✭✭✭Overheal

Evidently JRE is one of those shows that actually makes you less informed for watching it, like viewers of Fox News.

Like here, inventing the idea in a listener's head that the NYDEC kicked his door in and turned the squirrel into red mist with a glock.

There's a real, saner version of events but it's not worth divesting into here: what's crazy is that the Trump campaign has literally made the final closing argument of its campaign, "SQUIRREL!"

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 11,748 ✭✭✭✭Red Silurian

Trump won in 2016 because he carried Michigan, Pennsylvania, and Wisconsin. Pennsylvania also managed to have the result at about 1am eastern time (6am our time) and Wisconsin about an hour later. Postal voting was less of a thing which I'd say helped massively with the timings but likewise postal voting helped Biden in 2020. Gotta take the good with the bad as they say
