What the absolute **** was that? Why can't we just have an offense where they do sensible things instead of trying to get cute every time?!!

    I hate this team

Jesus Christ that’s absolutely soul destroying after all the hard work done by the defense.

Leavinga man unmarked in the end zone on a hail Mary, Jesus Christ. Still we had no business winning that.

Tipped the pass to them. Holy ****.

Have seen footage of Stevenson mocking the Washington fans DURING the hail Mary play, with his back to the play at the snap. Then goes in and tips the ball to the receiver. These are not serious people.

Lots of blame to go round on that play though, especially for not calling a timeout to plan for it and get the right personnel out. But overall that's a great defense. It's hard to blame them for the loss because of one play, when you're watching the oline all day. My God it's unforgivable to have Williams behind that ****

Yeah, only one play and all that, but as Adam Hoge said on twitter:

"Hard to find a part of this Hail Mary defense that was sound…"

    https://twitter.com/AdamHoge/status/1850702852383203633

From what I could see, they rushed 3, and had a 4th guy spying the quarterback (not sure what the benefit of that was).

And they had all 7 other players defending the end-zone.

In commentary, Tony Romo explained the basics of a Hail Mary - you put one guy behind where the ball is falling, and one guy in front.

So how did the Bears, with 7 guys in the end-zone, not have one guy behind?

Then you see the Tyrique Stephenson footage, and I don't want to scapegoat him, but it all betrays a lack of attention-to-detail.

Apparently, after two weeks off, they hadn't practiced defending a Hail Mary, or not practiced it well enough.

Yeah, offensive-line is bad. Caleb really had no chance until the 4th quarter, when I guess the Commanders' defensive line tired. Hard to see the team really do anything this season with that o-line. I can see them scraping into a playoff wildcard spot, but going no further.

Regarding personnel, the craziest thing for me was not having Sweat on the field.

As for their positioning, I play hurling and even the most basic junior hurler knows that when a high ball is dropping and players are going up for it, you need to have a player in front and behind waiting on the break. If a junior b full back went in for a ball like that and left a full forward on his own to wait for the break you would kill him for that level of naivety. It's the same principleb here so it's just unfathomable nobody felt the need to cover that area. Total coaching failure. A hail Mary is a throw and hope play, but it's not a lottery, there's things you can do to make a difference.

Note: apparently sweat had an injury and was designated doubtful to return so that's fair enough. By some accounts Stevenson was actually designated to cover the end zone, but no confirmation there. If so, he needs to be benched for the dereliction, which he should be anyway tbh. I saw Byard in an interview openly questioned the call on the play just before it where they have up 13 yards to set up the hail Mary, he felt at the time they should have contested that and have a pretty detailed explanation of how they should have done it, more or less calling out his own coach (flus said in his press conference that he didn't think that play was important, which is amazing given the announcers were able to predict what happened on it. But flus seemed to be taking no accountability at all for anything about the finish, his players have shown way, way more leadership than he has, which is very worrying).

Can only hope everyone learns from yesterday and is driven to be better. The offense got it together at the end, and the defense were stellar until right at the end, so it's not time to despair, it was just a heartbreaking loss, and a stupid one. Stupid heartbreaking loss in games we should win are a bit of an eberflus specialty though.

Leverage on the field goal, 3 points turned into 7 - way to self harm.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 795 ✭✭✭rodders999

Nothing doing on a couple of blatant pass interference calls on the bears last drive but they’re calling leverage there. Absolute joke.

Such a wasted year. I (and almost everyone else) said back in January that the one thing they couldn't do was keep this ass staff if they were drafting a rookie and that's exactly what they did.

Could've went and got Harbaugh, or based on what Albert Breer said during the week they could have got Ben Johnson. Instead we kept this bullsh*t. It's not surprising because mismanagement is the one thing the Bears excel at.

Williams gets blitzed to pieces on 4th and 11.

This is a grim way to spend a Sunday evening.

Cole Kmet was targeted once last week and zero times today. How Eberflus was entrusted with hiring another OC is beyond me. How our OL coach got a promotion in the off-season is absurd. How Ryan Poles once again failed to address the lack of talent on the line is unforgivable.

Apparently Caleb got hurt on the last play as well but I had already switched it off long before then. Why was he even in the game at that point?

Why is it that we're here once again? Shambolic coaching all day, players have quit, and a quarterbacks development has been ruined. It could be any time in the last decade really.

The 2024 Cardinals d-line is as stacked as the Bears 2022 WR room and we let them do stuff like this multiple times. Unbelievable job by Poles and Chris Morgan

I'm thinking of a bit in Hard Knocks where Poles was agonizing over cutting some player or other, and he wondered to himself whether he was keeping him because he liked him as a person or because it was the best thing for the team. Eberflus seems like a very likeable person. Not very charismatic and clearly not a good head coach, but likeable. And I'm starting to wonder if Poles just has this weakness where he won't be ruthless for the team. The whole culture of the team, in fact, seems pretty soft right now, and the players are losing their patience with it too. Can't see us getting past six wins this season now, possibly even fewer. The best time to fire eberflus was last year but the second best time is now. Show the players you recognize the problem.

But they won't do it. We are who we thought we were.

It took the Raiders 8 games to realise what took Eberflus 2 years: Luke Getsy sucks

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 11,264 ✭✭✭✭Realt Dearg Sec

How long will it take the bears to realise matt eberflus sucks?

Has Matt Eberflus lost the team?

    Moore: I won't say no.

Jesus that was an absolutely vomit inducing first half. Pathetic.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 11,264 ✭✭✭✭Realt Dearg Sec

Tis worse we're getting. And still no targets for kmet, did he sleep with someone's missus? Need a score right now.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 11,264 ✭✭✭✭Realt Dearg Sec

Rumours they will fire Eberflus if he loses today. God I hope so, can't imagine the team are even one bit interested in listening to him anymore. Not that they're blameless themselves! This is an atrocious Patriots team and we can't convert a single third down on them

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 11,264 ✭✭✭✭Realt Dearg Sec

Huh, what a coinkydink, you throw it to kmet a few times you get a few consecutive completions and your first third down conversion of the day. It's not rocket science, Jesus.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 795 ✭✭✭rodders999

Punt the ball all day interspersed with pre snap penalties and sacks.

    Hello rock bottom 👋

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 11,264 ✭✭✭✭Realt Dearg Sec

I've heard bears fans boo before but I've never seen it as bad as today, and the body language of the players is completely awful. Eberflus surely can't survive this? Why would you keep him to the end of the season, there's nothing he can do at this point that will convince me he won't be fired, so why not just do it and start rebuilding things right now?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 15,731 ✭✭✭✭Oat23

We'll find out how much of a say on football operations the owners still have at least. They kept Trestman after back to back games giving up over 50, so if George is still calling the shots he's not going anywhere as this is nowhere near that bad, yet.

If the likes of Warren really are running things now then I don't know how he can survive much more of this. If today wasn't the final nail, the Packers and Vikings coming to SF over the next two weeks could do it.

I was originally going to go to San Francisco for that game with my brother (9ers fan), kinda glad I don't have to watch that now!
