It was in the news this week of a Texas teenager who died last October after making 3 visits to hospitals looking for help. She was told that it would be a crime to intervene with her pregnancy with the new laws in the state there relating to abortions and she died from sepsis.

That's a direct consequence of government interference leading to the loss of a human life and the GOP brought that about so to see them wailing and gnashing their teeth over this NY squirrel is galling.

I clicked in to a GB News video on YouTube where an American historian was being asked various questions about the election. He thinks Trump is going to win.

He was asked which ticket is the most intelligent and he laughed and said that it is patently obvious that Trump is many levels of intelligence above Harris.

It's like that 'is the dress blue or gold' videos, I cannot for the life of me see what he sees.

Harris has come right back in the betting market.

4/5 Trump v 5/4 Harris on betfair exchange

Betting odds have shifted again overnight, again, it is just the money but I do wonder if it keeps moving will those who swear that it is the greatest indicator still stand over them. Currently in a Trump v Harris:

    Overall: 0.8:1 vs 1.2:1

Electoral college: 2.5:1 vs 2.75:1 (Caveat I took the odds for 270-299, rather than an outright EC >270)

    Popular vote: 2.75:1 vs 0.25:1

Like I said, indicative of nothing other than wear the money is going. Tomorrow it could shift the other way. Still it is a steady trend over the past week.

While Trump was on stage talking about having the biggest political rallies of any country in history, one cameraman decided to get a few crowd shots. Showing that there were not only was the place mostly empty at the back, but people were actively leaving while Trump was still talking.

Saw a social media post of two side by side videos showing the same arena hosting a Trump Rally and a Harris Rally, if that video is any indication of the wider sentiment, this race is over with Harris romping home. Every seat filled for Harris, Top tier mostly empty for Trump.

    This was trump last night.

Regardless of how slow or old Biden was, I'd take him over this nonsensical dullard anytime, any place..

“When I say insane asylums, and then I say, Doctor Hannibal Lecter, does anybody know? They go crazy. They say, oh, he brings up these names out of— Well, that's genius. Right. Doctor Hannibal Lecter. There's nobody worse than him. Silence of the Lambs. Who the hell else would even remember that? I have a great memory, but they always hit me. I don't bring it up too much because they have to take such a— he brought up Hannibal Lecter. What does that have to do with this? What is it? It has everything to do with it, right? He was… So I've done something for you for you that I haven't done in 20 speeches. I brought up Doctor Hannibal Lecter and we're allowing him, you watch, you watch these fake people will say again, he brought up Hannibal Lecter has absolutely nothing to do. You know I do the weave, right? The weave. It's genius. You bring up Hannibal Lecter, you mention insane asylum. Hannibal Lecter. You go out, no. There'll be a time in life where the weave won't finish properly at the bottom and then we can talk. But right now it's pure genius. Hey, I have an uncle, my uncle, Uncle John, my father's brother, 41 years at MIT, longest serving professor has so many degrees, he didn't know what the hell to do with them all in the most complicated. I understand a lot of this stuff, you know, I believe in that. Like, I mean, Jack Nicklaus is not gonna produce a bad golfer. Right. You know, that's the way it works. It's just one of those things and it's in the family and it's whatever”

Trump fan: "I like him because he says what he's thinking, he calls it as he sees it."

Me: What is he thinking and what is he saying???

This video sums up everything I've seen and heard about this guy and his supporters over the years. I doubt this will effect his campaign in any way since he seems to openly enjoy ripping the absolute piss out of his supporters.

Shirley anyone looking in from the outside have been speculating on this as a change party vote phenomenon for this election - including here- Democrats have said all along they never wanted Harris to have a significant lead in the polls as it would drive voter apathy -

If switching to Dems due to the abortion issue is something that can swing this for the Dens given the secrecy of it we won’t know till polling day .

Female voters are certainly where people will be looking - but hopefully ethnic vote will remain strong which is certainly not guaranteed .

Interestingly I don’t recall Trump mentioning abortion directly in recent times - reckon he took the approach of don’t mention the war -

Gas lighting and cognitive dissonance. No empty seats and all it takes is for the crowd to look around and see for themselves. The camera operator is like the kid in the Emperors New Clothes.

He is completely fried. This is not the type of speech given by someone who thinks they are in the lead.

Also, "If I don't win this thing after all this talk, I’m in trouble" is very revealing. His entire campaign was always about him trying to avoid jail.

It’s crazy how in 2024 abortion is still an issue that’s caught up in politics - even Ireland has done away with this nonsense

Totally- his rally last weekend was his last hurrah to get swing voters on board and IMHO it completely bombed - it stank of desperation and was a concentrated version of Trumps worst “hits” - but even with that, a significant state can and has been lost by less than 12,000 votes -a chunk of Rep females vote Dem over abortion- a chunk of Dem Arabs vote Rep over Gaza- then it’s down to “the economy” and “the border” - swing state voters likely to vote Trump on these issues IMHO. But that doesn’t mean a landslide for Harris isn’t possible - it is- just no way to predict that - it happened for Reagan in 1980 against Carter- they were neck and neck just like now

“To anyone who said Biden isn’t fit for office after the debate: do you still think Trump is after whatever that was?”

After the Debate (and indeed before) I didn’t think either candidate was suitable .

    They won't and can't answer.

They never actually thought that Biden was unfit for office. Nor can they defend those accusations in light of how Trump's behaving. not even their normal levels of selective blindness would let them get away with it.

So the angle now will be to just pretend that they never claimed that.

I'm definitely more anti-Trump than pro-Biden but I never thought Biden was in any serious cognitive decline. He is certainly a slower speaker than he was in 2020 and his gaffes are incredibly embarrassing. But unlike Trump, I think that is just surface level stuff and he still has intelligence. Just look at the one hour free wheeling press conference he did at the UN where he spoke in detail about many aspects of foreign policy. Trump is literally incapable of that. And unlike Trump, Biden actually knows how tariffs work and that asylum seekers aren't the same as asylum inmates.

But despite that, Biden's gaffe at that press conference where he called Zelenskyy Putin (but immediately corrected himself) got all the attention and demonstrated why he wasn't viable as a candidate.

If you’re POTUS, you’re going to have a lot more focus on you and your behaviour and how you’re coming across - towards the end of his campaign where he bowed out media was just filled with speculative stories - it doesn’t matter what ultimately was “wrong” or not wrong with him, perception is everything - in fact it’s the only thing - if you can’t convince backers , your party or indeed the people that you’re capable, then as POTUS, you’re not- it’s that simple

I do think Biden was right to step aside. If he were still in the race, a Trump win next week would be pretty much guaranteed.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 35,392 ✭✭✭✭odyssey06

Even if Biden forgot half of what he knows about legislation, good governance and economics he would still know 10 times more than Trump ever had.

This quote from Walz drives that home:

"And then this dude is nearly 80 years old. He tells us he's a genius, a stable genius. He apparently went to the Wharton school. In those 80 years, you would have thought he learned what a damn tariff is and who pays for it.

If Biden had come out with a speech like Trumps delusional nonsense at the rally about no empty seats - something everyone at the rally could see to be false - we can easily predict the reaction.

There was a thread started on this site, this morning, by someone seriously saying that Ireland should ban abortions and women in the workplace to deal with the fact that women aren't having babies as much as they did in the past.

You know, as I type that out, surely it must be an attempt at flaming or trolling or something, who knows. Long time member mind.

The Selzer poll could well be proven wrong (or maybe even ‘sorta right’ if other polls have underestimated Harris), but given so many pollsters put so much faith in it as an ‘A+’ poll it really is an intriguing set of data this close to election day. I think data was leaning Trump for a while there, but this really does change the whole conversation. And even the aggregators have been pointing to a lot of poll ‘herding’ and ‘normalisation’ because pollsters have been terrified of missing the Trump vote again.

I said earlier in the thread that I think the one thing that would embarrass pollsters this time around would be a landslide for either side - and a landslide would be the sort of numbers suggested in that Iowa poll. We’ll have a much better idea in 72 hours, and will not be betting my house on any outcome in the meantime :)

Without reading it It sounds like they’re on a population decline reversal mission- considering the rights of women have been hard fought, good luck with that 😀

-but what you’ve said there has triggered something in my mind - “white” voters in America are in the decline naturally given America is a world mixing bowl - I do wonder are we seeing the start of a mainstream white supremisist sort of vote creeping into the mainstream in America- yes I know it’s existed but on the fringes in recent times - but given just how much support Trump is getting given what he’s saying, it’s actually quite disturbing

Could the situation be the following:

To date , ie over the last month, the polls WERE correct.

But over the last week, there’s been a change of mind maybe based on a stronger Harris performance (which she’s doing) and a much weaker acting and sounding Trump (which he’s doing)?
    Could it be that simple?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 35,392 ✭✭✭✭odyssey06

I agree. I dont think Biden could have shifted the numbers / perception. Still would have made better President than Trump though.

I take it that this is a satire on MAGA political intelligence.

Or is it the real deal? 😕
