Nah, I think a lot of people realise that it's a gauge of the mood and opinion of the country. Some are just very very determined to have Trump back. They keep defending him and shielding him from any criticism. Any other politician in America does that stuff on stage, they'd be crucified for it. But it's fine for Trump to do it.

For other politicians, especially Biden and Harris, some folks are looking for anything and everything to criticise them to pretend their support for Trump is rational or based on policy. It never matters how obviously hypocritical it is. It doesn't matter if they're being dishonest and complaining about Harris for something Trump does ten times worse. They're already dishonest about their support for Trump. In for a penny, in for a pound.

I’m supporting Trump? Show me one post where I have ever shown I support Trump.
I’m assuming the numerous posts where I have stated I do not support Trump were missed by you.

A friend's mom is a primary school teacher over there.

She sets aside a percentage of her own income to pay for crayons and paper for her classroom.

She has to do that as her budget for supplies doesn't last the year. Education in the US is criminally underfunded, especially when you compare it's education budget to its military, or policing budgets.

I believe the problem with tackling that at a political level is that it takes about 16-20 years to receive the political benefit of it. Educated voters are more likely to lean blue, less educated to lean red.

This could be the perfect term to start it. If the Democrats win, there is a better than average chance of them holding on to the presidency for the next 4 terms, due to the nature of the upcoming MAGA Vs Republican fallout, Trump might not be around in 20 years time either.

Unfortunately, I haven't really seen much talk about education from Harris/Walz apart from providing kids with lunches. The focus has been very much on the economic crisis. Maybe once things calm down, they'll start looking at the bigger picture.

Has there been any articles on potential candidates for cabinet positions? Or have we just Trumps IE: RFK and Musk so far?

What's your personal issue if Walz referred to Musk as "That gay guy"?

Musk himself tweeted, "I have no problem being called gay".

Walz was the supervisor of the gay/straight alliance of the high school in 1999. Do you think he's homophobic?

I've no issue, maybe ask the guy who denied he said it?

Slip of the tongue, and Walz is demonstrably not a person who would infer someone’s sexual orientation as a negative anyway. And Musk too doesn’t see it as a slight or insult.

But when you’re scraping the bottom of the barrel these are the things you’ll find I suppose.

Last go around he appointed Betsy DeVos as education secretary. She was of course awful, rolling back protections against sexual assault and harassment in schools. Pushed for-profit schools. Fucked over teachers and unions. and of course fucked the response to covid. Not to mention all of the shenanigans about "critical race theory" etc.

She's one of the few people that didn't draw Trump's ire and wasn't fired, back stabbed and called every name under the sun. I think with her family connections and general alignment with Trump's fascism, she could be in the running again, if not for another post entirely.

A breakdown of her "achievements" here:

Is your issue that he called Musk "that gay guy" or that he denied saying it?

I found no evidence that he denied saying it

I dunno, what's up with it?

Musk says he hasn't an issue,Walz is a known active gay ally...

    What's the issue?

    Turns out it was true.

Doesn't matter. Musk says he has no problem being called gay, Walz is a huge gay ally, being the former supervisor of the gay/straight alliance in his high school.

Slip of the tongue maybe. It's been a tough campaign.

Either slip of the tongue when he meant to just say guy, or being sarcastic calling a promiscuous adulterer with a load of kids by different women gay.. 😂 with a 4d chess component of Trump supporters supporting someone like that when they're all about the 'family unit'

    Or something

I will say, they all seem to collapse inwardly towards the end days of the campaign. Trump is doing it, Harris has done it. Walz doing it.

I remember the shocking clips of Hillary falling across the pavement into the SUV as he campaign closed out.

Just saw the video of Trump supposedly calling for Liz Cheney to be executed that all the democrats and their supporters are losing their mind over.

Looked at it and discovered that he called her a war hawk an suggested maybe people who want all these wars should go out fight them themselves and see what it's like to have a load of guns targeted at them.

So in reality he didn't call for her execution at all.

Amazing that those saying how awful mis/disinformation is and how we should be stopping it all happen to be constantly pushing mis/disinformation.

Babylon Bee nicely sums up Jennifer Lopez endorsement of Harris.

I'd argue the cavalcade of celebrity endorsers the democrats have brought out does more harm than good for them, I think most sensible people these days have nothing but contempt for celebrities who pontificate on serious issues.

It's a bit galling seeing Mr. Bone Spurs having the nerve to lecture anyone about bravery, let alone relish the thought of someone being executed.

And what's your thoughts on Trump saying that, considering he dodged the draft five times himself?

So the Torygraph is going for Trump? I presume you mean going in the sense of supporting, and not in the sense of Trump "going for" Jack Smith.

This is the same Torygraph which is still down the Brexit rabbithole. Would you trust their judgement?

So her standing there with one rifle and having 9 guns pointing at her face is not a firing squad to you?

I guess that is what passes for political discourse in the Trump era. No discussion about he would do to avoid US being a war hawk. No discussion about how to solve the decades old issues around the world that US has felt the need to attack other countries to fix.

Just 'she's horrible and should face the threat of imminent death to teach her a lesson' which the response by some if 'well, she sort of deserves it'.

Is he putting forward a policy of non military intervention by the US? Is he taking to task other peoplethat are similarly hawkish or is it just her because she said she didn't like him?

Did he commend those like AOC and plenty others calling for a ceasefire in Gaza and aligned with his thinking?

No. It's just a childish petty rant about someone who he doesn't like.

Remember it's just Biden and Harris engage in violent rhetoric though.

Talking about specifically 9 rifles can't possibly be interpreted as a firing sqaud, but saying stuff like "crosshairs" can only possibly be interpreted as calls to assassinate Trump.

You're forgetting about the rule where Trump must always get the benefit of the doubt every time.

The traditional democrat voters - those who worked in the factories and manufacturing industry which are now all but gone- and indeed teachers and educators too - have grown incredibly disillusioned . I can see why MAGA, Trump , Republican Party all provide “hope” for them .
I believe the Democrat party has lost touch with the very voters that got them into power and kept them there and it’s probably been years in the making. Your personal example here- a very simple thing-,crayons and paper for the classroom - education, a fundamental right - and this is the state of it? In America? In 2024? And that’s just one example of millions.

The Democrats have gone too intellectual - neither they nor their former solid base recognise each other - there’s a huge gap between them and MAGA has stepped in to fill that gap.

It’s fine for Harris to say choose democracy over dictatorship - and look she’s correct - dictatorship is where America is heading if Trump gets in or at the very least, a turn off away from democracy - but she and her party has to recognise and understand why this is happening - you can’t just go to blue collar workers, or indeed more realistically blue collar former workers who are now unemployed because their factory closed, every 4 years and ask for their support and then forget about them for another 4 years - without something happening - and what’s happening is Trump, “the saviour” - standing in the frontline on behalf of his “flock” - it’s a good sounding story when you have feic all left to lose and the democrats have done nothing for you in years.

Also, is the defence of Trump really that he's just saying Cheney is okay with calling for war but wouldn't like it if she was on the front lines...

This is Donald Trump, the same guy who has repeatedly threatened violence, war and even nuclear war on his opponents and other nations. Who has repeatedly said police should have immunity rather than having to, y'know, not commit police brutality. Trump as ever, is as guilty as those he accuses.

As for Walz, he was clearly saying "guy" and misspoke. The idea that he'd randomly call Musk a gay guy makes absolutely no sense, especially when Walz has already shown that his opinion of Musk isn't that he's gay, it's that he's a dipsh*t.

Are you saying that the education cuts have been a result of Democrat policies? Seriously?

Some of the endorsements I’d simply call tone deaf - you’re placing people who are millionaires many times over with their perfect hair and perfect teeth in front of TV screens to try to influence people who have lost their jobs and their hope in life to vote Democrat when it’s that very party that has deserted them

When someone just makes an allegation that's clearly false, I'd treat it that way. Thanks for clarifying though.

Erm, just who has been in power for the last 4 years - and what party has been in the white house for 75% of the last 16 years? So yes some responsibility has to be placed at the democrats door - it would be remiss if it weren’t - whilst they were pushing for debt relief for students in the hope of votes at the polls, the teachers pensions deficits were rising year on year meaning funding that should have been going into education was instead tied up in shoring up pensions . But debt write off for students was their answer to that

    Very classist comment.

Your just becoming an echo chamber of all the worst tropes that the Dems are leaning into.
