No pollsters have any clue how this is going to go. The whole "it's a dead heat" thing from all the polling organisations is code for "we don't know".

I don't think it will be as close as 2020. I think it will be a clear early victory for one of them. If I had a bet on it I'd say Harris.

The "full clip" changes nothing about what he said.

Did anyone catch Walz's speech at some union house yesterday?

    I was very, very impressed.

I originally would have described myself as basically, ABT (anyone bar Trump) but Harris has been really impressing me with her energy, her clearly laid out policies and Walz is fantastic.

Even dressing him as a typical football coach for events like last night, instead of being a stiff in a suit, is very, very clever. He'll probably be too much of a lefty for America to fully get behind, but one can hope.

I know he's 60, but I would love for him to run for the big seat himself one day.

Do you think the Republicans essentially lost it in the last week?
Regardless of what anyone says up to then the Democrats weren’t putting in an inspiring performance - it’s possible in my view that Republicans have given this one away rather than Democrats have won

I am posting this here as an indicator of views on Trump making news in the US.

Trump is "crippled cognitively" according to Las Vegas Sun editorial: "The nation must confront the fact that beyond his hateful character, he is crippled cognitively and showing clear signs of mental illness."

"Donald Trump has never had the moral compass to lead this country. But even his supporters cannot afford to ignore the signs that he may no longer have the mental faculties to lead it either. The stakes are simply too high."

So Jack Posobiec is a complete crank, rabid conspiracy nut and frequent guest and contributer to the Alex Jones show.

Of course you jump to defend his tweet.

jaysus the back and forth between posters on here is insufferable. Neither side able to accept any sort of criticism to their preferred candidate at all.
Neither side is perfect. You can support a candidate or party and still be critical of certain aspects.

Whatever about a prosecutor Harris was as far from a “highly competent politician” that you could possibly get .

Not True and a complete misrepresentation.

Trump supporters often refuse to acknowledge that they are Trump supporters and often refuse to acknowledge any points of criticism about Trump and refuse to engage with any points.

People Who don't support Trump have repeatedly stated and agreed with valid criticisms of Harris. They just also point out when criticisms are invalid, false or massively hypocritical.

Your post is not an opinion someone could hold if they have read the actual thread.

Going back to Trumps 2016 run, there is quite literally the same posters on here for the last ten years, nearly all have not accepted any criticism of their side.

Just another demonstration of attacks on Harris without foundation.

She impressed as a Senator and within the limitations of the VP role did as well as she could.

Presented without evidence…. So incompetent she's got a campaign that's been running for nearly 4 years on its heels despite being on the hustings for something like 110 days. Amazing performance, if she wins it'll be one of the greatest campaigns of all time. Enormously successful fundraiser, too.

And, as you know, her opponent has yet to win the popular vote in any election. Ever.

Weird to thing to claim giving that DA and AG are also political appointments.

She has basically won every election she been involved in since 2002.

Didn't get the pick for President in 2019, but was selected as VP, and is a coin toss to take the big job.

How anyone could see her as an incompetent politician is rather bizarre.

I agree -you absolutely can and I support that right without reservation or conditions

It is a claim that could only come from a place of ignorance of basic US politics or a determination to do Harris down without regard to evidence.

It's simply a tactic to make a false equivalence with Trump to pretend to be on the fence.

"They're both as bad as each other." Etc.

I'd try telling that to AG Barr or Brett Kavanaugh, they seemed pretty rattled at her competencies:

Multiple times she had AG Barr stuttering over himself afraid to answer her very clear, concise and direct questions,

"AG Barr, has the POTUS or anyone at WH ever asked or suggested you open an investigation of anyone?"

    "Uhm, I wouldn't I wouldn't uh"

    "Yes or no?"

    "…Can you repeat the question?"

    etc.

And with Brett Kavanaugh, similarly, the exchange speaks for itself, Kavanaugh dances around admitting, or perjuring himself, about having improper conversations about the Mueller Investigation with people connected to Trump's legal team.

"Is there a specific person you're referring to?" He knows he's in trouble there. Harris corners him on his own brag about his memory elsewhere in the hearings when it suited him.

Again what I'm reading is more low effort hyperbole attacking Harris with nothing statements. If it's a concern about her competency as a Vice President it should be remembered that the duties of the VP are to be the President of the Senate (which she's done more than competently, setting the record for most tie breaking votes) and to have a warm pulse in the event the POTUS is incapacitated, to assume the role of the POTUS. Even right wing firebrand Bill O'Reilly thinks attacking her for her 'record' as VP is ridiculous, stating 'she's lucky she can order lunch' regarding the total lack of authority the Vice President effectively carries.

But I'm sure you'll tell us why you think she is the most incompetent politician in history, given you think she is the farthest thing from competent, which would be that? I'd like to point out she's survived much longer than a head of lettuce.

Is that all you have attacking the tweet less not forget the corrupt edited clip came from the X account of Aaron Ruper who is such a corrupt individual he has his own entry in the Urban Dictionary "A lying sack of **** who deceives people for a living, in the name of his political ideology. Every word that comes out of his mouth is a lie"

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 86,725 ✭✭✭✭Overheal

anyone can make an entry on the urban dictionary, that is not at all special.

What more do I need that to point out that you follow an avowed conspiracy nut who believes in pizzagate and who is a white nationalist?

I just pointed this out because MrAnarchy was very offended at the notion that he was an Alex Jones fan, yet jumps to defend a tweet from one of Alex Jones' peers.

No idea who Aaron Ruper is nor to I think that Urban Dictionary is a very valid source.

I don't know if this has been responded to already, as this is a fast moving thread, but you've a few things incorrect about bookies there

Bookies make more money if the outsiders won, not the favourites. The fav odds drop due to the amount of money banking them, so if the favourite doesn't win, there's more money in there pot for the bookies to pay our with.

So if you think there's good value at the moment with Harris at 13/8 (and in my opinion there's GREAT value in that , as all info points to it being on a knife edge) then you should take it.... As the bookies will be DELIGHTED if Harris wins and they bank all that maga money

you can be competent in one area and incompetent in another - it really isn’t that difficult to understand - it’s basic human nature - not everyone is “great” at everything - putting Harris forward as a “successful” politician is just naive - she was right place right time - she would never have survived an election had Biden bowed out months previously to what he did - she’s grown the the role in the last few months and I respect her for that- but she was far from great - pretty much everyone on this forum throughout her early days as candidate agreed she needed to be carefully managed - so sorry I don’t accept this revisionist theory

“But I'm sure you'll tell us why you think she is the most incompetent politician in history”

Well I never claimed that and you’re putting words in my mouth yet again - so no cigar . Thanks

Unfortunately, I think Trump is going to win. Momentum seems to be with him. The Trump team tried to score an own goal at MSG last week only for Biden to clear it off the line and score an o.g. himself. I just think that voting for Trump has been better than polling in the last 2 elections and the same will happen again. I hope to be proved wrong and can't understand how half the voters are picking such a vile person

I would have agreed with you last Monday - not sure their success is quite as assured now

Trump tries revising his attack on Liz Cheney, by repeating himself- while deliberately removing the death threat.

“All I’m saying about Liz Cheney is that she is a War Hawk, and a dumb one at that, but she wouldn’t have ‘the guts’ to fight herself,” wrote Trump on Truth Social. “It’s easy for her to talk, sitting far from where the death scenes take place, but put a gun in her hand, and let her go fight, and she’ll say, ‘No thanks!’ Her father decimated the Middle East, and other places, and got rich by doing so. He’s caused plenty of DEATH, and probably never even gave it a thought. That’s not what we want running our Country!

    https://www.mediaite.com/trump/donald-trump-softens-attack-on-war-hawk-liz-cheney-doesnt-repeat-nine-barrels-shooting-at-her-jab/

    • Trump knows he screwed himself with the remarks
    • By not repeating them he knows they were absolutely indefensible (and some have even pointed out, possibly even a violation of his multiple paroles)
    • ”if you’re explaining, you’re losing”
    • It sure still sounds like he wants “DEATH” for the Cheneys

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 86,725 ✭✭✭✭Overheal

I’ll state it plainly for you: you never gave explanation for why you think she is the farthest thing from a competent politician.

evidence was provided to repudiate your hyperbolic hot take.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 35,397 ✭✭✭✭odyssey06

A Senator is politician. You seem to have memory holed that. The only revisionism is coming from you, trying to pretend Harris didnt acquit herself well as a Senator.

You claimed she was as far from highly competent as its possible to be. That is way beyond mere incompetence oh and again you havent remotely justified that either.

Your current post is a total shift in goalposts not even trying to backup your previous hyperbole.

So your original claim is absolute nonsense from start to finish. Utterly without merit or foundation. Just an attack on Harris based on absolutely nothing.

As for this: "pretty much everyone on this forum throughout her early days as candidate agreed she needed to be carefully managed."

Nope. That is your invention, again backed up by absolutely nothing. Your are in no positon to make such claims for "pretty much everyone" on the thread.

nope - it was by a landslide agreement in media and here that Harris at the start of her election needed to be well managed and scripted to give her a chance to make the best impact because her off script narratives were dreadful and would have canned her election chances before they began - and she did just that ie stick to script - so no it’s not nonsense
