"It won't change one Trump supporter"

It did though. Journalists were interviewing Puerto Rican attendees after the event and one said something like, "I voted for Clinton in 16, Trump in 20, but I'm going home take down my MAGA sign and sit this one out. I'm disgusted".

Ironically, pointing out that there are so many Puerto Ricans in the swing states could energies the racists who consider them to be non Americans

The Trump campaign are not relying on votes to win this election. Its been obvious for a long time that they're planning to steal it.

only if Kamala Harris can get her voters out in greater numbers .

The MSG rally was a dog whistle for the MAGA loons , and probably ensures a very good turnout .

That should ensure a close race to the WH , and we know how close they came to changing the result last time.

I would say MAGA are at this stage putting more effort into the election rigging than getting actual votes.

1.They have flooded the polls with right wing polls

2.They have taken over social media with help from their friends.

3.They have flooded the betting markets to swing towards Trump (DJT stock is a reflection of this as well).

    4. The media are helping to present the view that its a very close race.

    5. The media are repeating the dog whistle that the only way Trump loses is if its “Stollen”

    6. MAGA have put a large effort into “voter verifiers” in swing states, and i wouldn’t be surprised if they turned up in force to polling stations , heavily armed, full of intimidation which could drive turnout of Dems down.

Point 6 worries me as they have form for this , Jan 6th, Proud boys etc.

That may all be true but my point still stands

Without a doubt, the biggest mistake Trump made in this campaign was going on the early debate and going hard on Bidens age and cognitive state - but that MSG rally could be a close second, plenty of Puerto Ricans in swing states that could play a vital role.

One week to go and Harris is looking strong. I hope to god she wins well or we’ll be in for the sake election denial nonsense as 4 years ago.

I would hope that Biden mobilizes the national guard on election day to protect polling stations and turn away the thugs.

Watch how many Trump supporters cry about the president talking about using the armed forces on Americans then.

No. Introducing military 'escorts' at polls is a dangerous step that could leas to voter intimidation at any election in future if a President thought they might lose and so started coming up with plans to impact the result.

    Ahem, ahem. Cough, cough.

There are going to be some nasty scene of voter (and poll worker) intimidation if he doesn't.

Trump is not going to apologize for the remarks. Always claim victory, never admit wrong. He will state that no president in history has done more for Latinos and blacks than him. He created the greatest economy in history. There will be no jobs for anyone if they vote for Kamala.

Was it a plan to mobilize his own base? Will it make some Latinos vote for Kamala? Will it make more Latinos turn out? In a tight race, it could make a difference

So the whole nobody noticed spin didn't stick did it?

The Archbishop of Puerto Rico calls on Trump to personally apologize:

González Nieves, who consulted with other Puerto Rican bishops before issuing the letter. He highlighted the territory's contributions to American military service, noting that "more Puerto Rican soldiers died in the Vietnam War as part of the United States military than soldiers from any state of the United States."

The archbishop's letter emphasized that while he appreciates humor, it should not "insult or denigrate the dignity and sacredness of people." He argued that Hinchcliffe's comments "do not only provoke sinister laughter but hatred" and have no place in a society founded on "liberty and justice for all."

The Trump campaign responded through senior adviser Danielle Alvarez, saying: "This joke does not reflect the views of President Trump or the campaign." González Nieves made clear in his letter that a campaign apology was insufficient, calling specifically for Trump to personally disavow the remarks.

I expect some mealy mouthed public comment from Trump soon, talking out of both sides of his mouth, trying to give compliments to Puerto Ricans without actually criticising the racist remarks or speakers directly.

Wrong type of Christian for a lot of trumps supporters, what with Catholics and Jews being in league with Satan and all that guff according to them.

Trump will probably try to firefight by turning up in Puerto Rico and throwing out packs of toilet paper again.

Despicable scenes both in Puerto Rico previously and recently in Florida. No sense of respectabilty whatsoever.

A few packs of loo roll, meh.

Should have spent a few million getting truckloads of it in instead.

That would have had much more impact.

Trump has form screwing over Puerto Rico:

The Trump administration delayed more than $20bn in hurricane relief aid for Puerto Rico after Hurricane Maria, according to a report by the housing department’s office of the inspector General.

To be honest, it feels like it's drifting towards a Trump win. It doesn't matter what his campaign does, how obscene it's comments or ludicrous it's actions, anger looks to be winning.

I suppose it doesn't matter as eventually, whether it be this cycle or the next, a Trumpist is going to take the presidency this decade.

It does matter unfortunately, if he doesn't win this time around, he's likely done. Yes there are a bevy of acolytes and copycats but no matter how much they try to emulate him none get remotely close.

If we're lucky he will still try running again only even more doddering and possibly from jail, and end up splitting the Republician vote. Or better yet forcing them to pick him again.

By which time the base will have transferred their squirrel attention to something else.

I think it will be a combination. Some of his base will just be old and die. Some will grow out of being edgelords. Some still will be convicted felons from Jan 6th and whatever they try this time.

But I think there'll be a core of true die hard cultists who will be a headache for the GOP next time around even if Trump isn't running. They will still have to kiss up to him to appeal to thay base.

I read the wikipedia entry on Puerto Rico. To say its status and history is convoluted is an understatement.

    Some key points:

Christopher Columbus originally claimed it in the name of Spain

In 1898 Puerto Rico was acquired by the USA.

From 1917, Puerto Ricans were US citizens, they have freedom of movement, but if they do not reside in a US State, they don't pay federal tax and cannot vote in federal elections. I suspect the not paying of tax is why DJT doesn't like them. He gets very irked by people not paying their bills, which is deliciously ironic.

Don't think so. It's a bit like a hippie in the 60s believing that the future would be so far-out once all the squares died off. Didn't quite happen that way.

And I recall similar claims being made about his base a couple of years ago, but here he is with every chance of winning the election. What happened?
