Wow! Maybe if / when he is released he can go live in your house with your kids then. Highly likely the 4 that kicked him around are scumbags but he deserves that and more, he literally chopped men's heads off for being gay. I understand this is mental gymnastics on speed for the woke brigade with Gay, Islam mix, but you're not a serious person the way you talk

The actions and beliefs of the people who assaulted him are also not compatible with a civilized society, just because you happen to agree with them doesn't change that.

He already got his punishment from society, thats why he is locked up.

Most of prison population are in there for some incredibly serious crimes. Anyone committing more minor offences are mostly getting suspended sentences.

Some of the most violent people in our society are in prison. It stands to reason that if you decide to murder innocent people then you will be imprisoned with other very violent criminals.

If you don’t want to take the risk of being surrounded by violent criminals then don’t murder innocent people.

I don’t condone it but I won’t lose sleep over it either. These things happen in prison even with all the precautions and procedures put in place by prison officials.

heres hoping his is sentence enough to prevent a reoccurrence ..... but theres only one sure way to do that now isnt there

and again , i neither endorse agree nor support this attackers , as i ve said already execution would have been a fair sentence for this " man "

It doesn’t matter how much you dream of him getting executed. The only way this would happen would be by vigilantism which can never be acceptable.

    sigh

4th time i have to say this ,

it would be a fair sentence but we are all fully aware that it will unfortunately never happen , unless of course his next possible victim is quick or clever enough to defend him self

CAB/ Dept Social Welfare should deduct the amount of dole, HAP, fuel allowance, medical card costs, and other welfare benefits, paid to him and his wife since they arrived in Ireland, and then hand them back the rest of the money. Then make sure they never get those benefits again. Lying about financial savings when applying for dole, medical card, HAP, etc is fraud, which should be punishable.

I wouldn't give them any back, I'd give it to the victim's families

How did they have that much money

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 913 ✭✭✭Juran

They must have been given legal.advice that the money is theirs. Someone legal wise is representing them. I recall reading at the time of the trial, they said it wasfrom the sale of a property in Syria. Might be a lie or might be true. but what we do know is that the Irish state have housed them and paid them welfare since they arrived in thiscountry, on the basis that they were pennyless. This is welfare fraud. I cant understand how and why the state dont strip welfare fraud people of their citizenship (people who gained citzenship who were not born here). What deters new citizens or applicants from committing welfare fraud or serious crimes ? Suspended sentences, fines, slap on the wrist ... a joke.

Wonder what upset the Sligo family more, their son being jailed or their 350k cash wad being taken off them ?

Is there anything to be said for just deporting the lot of them?!

This family was given a massive opportunity to come live here. They responded by murdering, lying, and cheating. They are not fit to live in our society and pose a grievous risk. Deport them.

We will probably get the opposite. This government will probably give the money back with interest and an apology 🤢

Are this family still receiving social welfare even after being caught with all this money?

    Not really.

Apparently the rest of his family have not committed any crime.

Well they don't have the money right now, it was taken by CAB a few years ago,so I'd say they are getting welfare right.

It will be interesting to know what the basis of their case is.

I'm thinking it would be based on the way CAB seized the money, i.e that the correct procedure was not used to seize it.

I know nothing about the rules CAB operate under so I'll not speculate any further.

I thought CAB operated on the basis on ill gotten gains from criminal activities whether that applies in this case.... obviously CAB don't seem to want to give it back to them.

Surely if they had all that money while claiming welfare then they are guilty of welfare fraud and should be cut off or at least prosecuted in some way

It can be proceeds of crime or untaxed income.

I suppose the case is why CAB are even involved in this case when you'd think it would be gardai/dept of social welfare/revenue matter.

    CAB is all those.

Well nobody knows for certain what they were getting or on what basis. We can guess with a high likelihood but cannot be certain.

I don't think they'd have had to be given the legal advice that the money is theirs. It is a relatively big chunk of money. Many would roll the dice at trying to get it back.

From what you read in the papers, individuals also make settlements with CAB in relation to tax. If they aren't going down that route, they must be claiming there is no tax owed on it. Because even if they got it back from CAB, Revenue would presumably be on to them immediately.

Could be an inheritance or something. Don't think CAB can automatically assume it's 'ill-gotten' because of the family's circumstances…

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 21,337 ✭✭✭✭Donald Trump

But they would have to show the source of the cash. "I brought it in suitcases from Syria after selling me gaff" could lead to its confiscation anyway if it wasn't declared.

A story might have to be along the lines of "I sold me gaff in Syria to some fella I met in a carpark in Mullingar the day before we were raided. I gave him the keys of the house and he paid me in cash"

You are still required to inform the social welfare if you have any money

I knew a fella who lost the dole as he had a few head of cattle too many. The old farmers dole scheme, you were allowed to have a couple of cattle on your land ... not many, just handful. But if you went over the limit, you could lose your dole. And this man did, over a few cows. The poor man woukd have been better off selling his cows and land, keep the €350k cash profits, and he'd get to keep his dole for life. Seems this is how it works in this country !

The father is busy with his cases, now suing Dept of Social Protection (is it even possible to receive both disability and jobseekers dole at the same time?), who is taking these cases for him and funding?

The father of serial killer Yousef Palani is seeking to challenge the State's decision to stop his jobseeker's and disability allowances, arguing there is no evidence to support an assertion that he engaged in criminal activity.

Juma Palani, who has an address in Sligo, is taking High Court action against the Criminal Assets Bureau (CAB), the Chief Appeals Officer, the Minister for Social Protection, the Minister for Justice, Ireland and the Attorney General
