Realistically would you know even a fraction of those people to make an informed decision? Not challenging you or anything like that - more speaking personally, I probably wouldn’t and may not care even less - it just shows for those lessor roles, would I be right in saying publicity in advance is everything in terms of if you get picked or not?
it seems every senior elected official probably has to have their own PR team? 😀

    @Snake Plisken

I would link the great speech she gave but that seems to get posters banned these days.

    These days??

When did they bring this in??

    Just for posting a link??

    Rule 3

"3. The forum charter is not going to change. Posters know what is acceptable and what is not, new posters will learn quickly. However we would like to clarify the following - Low level snark/ personal abuse, concern trolling, sealioning, victim blaming, piling on posters, link dumping and bringing up a posters previous posts from other threads/forums are specifically not allowed, as these seem to have operated in a grey area until now."

Link dumping is posting loads of links, not one or a couple, so I fail to see how posting a link to Gabbard's speech would get anyone banned.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 29,684 ✭✭✭✭looksee

As you know perfectly well, linking the speech is not a problem provided you give a precis of what it was about and why it impressed you/was worth sharing. Just imagine someone does not want to click the link, so tell them enough to save them the trouble.

    Who is "we"?

I don't know if it has been established whether the polls are skewing one way or the other this time around.

In previous elections a skew may have been detected when the actual results were counted but I imagine that more recent and contemporary polls attempt to take this into account and "counter skew".

With such an incredible liar on the top of the Republican ticket the question arises as to whether the team is actively attempting to falsify polling results (I have no expertise as to whether this could be true or not or whether the Dems would attempt to counter any such ploys)

It is a very sad fact that ,even if Trump is defeated at the ballot the amount of support he has gained for such nefarious and dishonourable purposes have already brought the democratic process into disrepute (or just unmasked the venality of the population in the USA and by extension the Western world)

First, she blocked exculpatory evidence from being introduced in an appeals trial that would have exonerated a man who had been sitting for several years on death row for a crime he didn’t commit. What kind of person does that? Even more troubling, what kind of people like and defend someone who does that? And the evidence was indeed exculpatory because after Harris stepped down as attorney general, her successor allowed the evidence to be submitted, and the man was released.

Even if this were true, how is it a 'power grab?'

It doesn't appear to be true given that, the person from Death Row named in the fact checks about this, is still on death row. So, I'm not sure who you're implying was released - article dated 2023:

    https://www.latimes.com/california/story/2023-01-13/independent-investigators-reject-innocence-claim-from-inmate-kevin-cooper

Second, she implemented a policy whereby parents of truant children were arrested.

How is this a power grab?

And how is laughing a power grab?

Finally, in an interview with Stephen Colbert (Flashback: Kamala Harris Tells Stephen Colbert 'It Was a Debate!' When Asked About Swipes Against Biden), Harris was asked by Colbert how she went from harsh critic to his running mate. In Colbert’s words, “how do you go from being such a passionate opponent on such bedrock principles for you, and now you guys seem to be pals?” Harris’ response should give anyone pause (taken from the linked article): “It was a debate,” Harris said, deploying the laugh she often uses to deflect during television interviews.

Again, the obsession with her laugh. It's a juvenile thing to obsess with. Nobody has ever done anything worse than be jovial on a late night talk show program. /s

That article is a piece of hack pulp, it doesn't even quote her response in full. It just cites the first part when she's being jovial and announces "that makes no sense" - well of course you only report half the exchange. The websites own About, happily, identifies itself as a staunch conservative outfit.

    Here's the actual exchange:

"In all seriousness, I've known Joe a long time, and I care about him deeply and as you all know we all have family members or friends with whom we have disagreements - that doesn't overcome or overshadow the commonality between us or the connections between us."

Need i talk about her performance on the border or precisely lack of performance?

What do you expect her to do, as Vice President, exactly? She was ready and prepared to be the tie breaking vote to pass the Bipartisan Border Bill. But remember what Republicans did to the bill?

She’s a cruel, duplicitous person entirely lacking in any moral principles or scruples.

This is complete horse sh*t. But you've already admitting to wanting to do things just to get a rise out of people so I assume your arguments are made generally in bad faith, duplicitous and entirely lacking in any moral principles or scruples. Every accusation is a confession.

Morning articles are out and some are not great news for Harris.

Color me cynical but the ballot is so broad it almost seems like an attempt in itself to stifle voter turnout by means of making each vote take longer to cast, frustrating the length of lines at polling places.

What's amusing (not your reasoning, that's fine), is that women in the South are just as likely as women anywhere to have an abortion, and plenty of so-called Conservative women have had them.

    https://www.salon.com/2022/09/24/the-white-conservative-southern-women-asked-me-to-keep-their-abortions-secret/

I have hopes they'll vote Harris when the time comes, for their daughters' sakes.

Its been slipping away from her for a few weeks now. As soon as she started doing interviews shock horror.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 86,725 ✭✭✭✭Overheal

And this highlights the hypocrisy that Harris has to face. Elon Musk is effectively bribing voters and Trump is constantly name dropping him but there is no negative reaction. In the past few days Trump has been parading WWE wrestlers.

Eminem endorses Harris and that's a problem and voters won't like it.

Cheney endorses Harris and Harris should be avoiding her because of her previous politics. Tulsi endorses Trump and it proves that even the left know he is best for America.

Pigeon post made confirming exactly what was said just hours ago.

A bit like the midterms which were supposed to be a white wash for Republicans. They really cannot be complacent this time with what they read in the newspapers and see in polls and they need to get off their backsides and get out and vote.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 15,016 ✭✭✭✭briany

You do realise that there are (at the time of writing) five links posted on this page alone by regular contributors?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 17,803 ✭✭✭✭Loafing Oaf

The poster I was replying to was citing intimdation of Harris supporters in predominantly Republican areas to support a 'shy Harris voter' thesis; I was questioning whether this would extent to opinion polls to any significant extent. You're talking about factors that might skew opinion polls in either direction, which is fair enough…

Nothing as odd as folk though when it comes to religion and all of that - do as I say not as I do - I wonder does the olde conscience kick in when they’re in the voting booth.

An example of what political support and donation can mean for those elderly or suffering impairment.

The complete draining of one's life savings and the accrual of overdraft debt as both WinRed (GOP) & ActBlue (Dems) seek to pile pressure upon small dollar donors to donate more & more.

The breakdown of complaints about this practice in the report is approx 7 to 1 with Reps grifting far more.

The article itself is well worth reading and illustrates the sharp practice that political campaigns engage in stateside. In particular, pre populated auto-donate and bank account access fields.

The fragmented and very desperate money grabbing nature of US politics means that many candidates don't see their small dollar donors as political supporters, rather they see them as marks.

The amounts of cash being expropriated from vulnerable people by both parties is utterly disgusting. The nature of American political funding in the wake of Citizens Utd, needs to be addressed and overhauled both to prevent oligarchy and to protect small dollar donors.

Some examples of the folk being bilked dry below:

One 82-year-old woman, who wore pajamas with holes in them because she didn’t want to spend money on new ones, didn’t realize she had given Republicans more than $350,000 while living in a 1,000 square-foot Baltimore condo since 2020.

And a 78-year-old, a widow who limited showers to save on her water bill and canceled her long-term care insurance, didn’t understand why the retirement savings her husband had left her was dwindling so quickly. After CNN reached out to her family, they learned that the woman gave more than $200,000 in donations to Democratic political groups and candidates.

Both parties are guilty of this practice but the Dem's are actively ending their use of methods that lead to issues like the above.

What must be noted, and then screamed at some folk tho? Is that the biggest single beneficiary of small dollar donations and of "oversights" that have bankrupted such folk? The billionaire, Donald J Trump and the man's organisation know exactly what they're doing with messages like the ones sent to this guy.

Richard Benjamin, an 81-year-old from Arizona, believed he had been in personal communication with former president Trump through all the messages he was receiving.

Later, he told his son how angry he was that Donald Trump Jr. wouldn't call him back even though the former president’s son had sent Benjamin so many nice messages.

Absolute scumbag behaviour and exploitation of those least able to protect themselves.

Amazing that Trump has been labelled as racist and divisive a candidate yet Harris is continually coming out with Harris for Latino's, Harris for Blacks and campaigning constantly targeting specific ethnic groups.

Sounds like she's the one being divisive and racist it's just divisiveness and racism promoted by the democrats seems to be acceptable.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 86,725 ✭✭✭✭Overheal

you must have missed Blacks for Trump, Latinos for Trump, etc. with that pigeonholing you're doing there.

Just the other week the candidate who demanded his generals be like Hitlers generals told a group of Jewish voters he was specifically targeting for his campaign that it would be their fault (Jews) if he loses the election.

    Pull another.

Why would it be "amazing" when Trump has come out with derogatory race baiting racist drivel with scurrilous lies about immigrants eating pets?

Or his campaign posts memes of 'immigrant' mobs over-running neighbourhoods - no white faces in the mobs, only people of colour.

"Amazing" anyone could seek to draw such a false equivalence and think it would fool anyone paying the slightest attention.

As for divisive… Trump wanted to withhold disaster aid from areas because he thought they were full of registered Democrats.

"Harris for Latino's, Harris for Blacks and campaigning constantly targeting specific ethnic groups."

You don't know what racism is, do you?

Has Harris claimed people are eating pets? Has Harris expressed admiration for Hitler's control of his military? The Harris is racist come across as incredibly fake while Trump's racism is well established.

Seems like you don't understand how political campaigning works. This has been going on for decades and all sides do it.

Link dumping is giving any link without adequate analysis so you do not have to follow the link to understand the point been made. It can apply to a single link.

And notice that the response to the criticism about Trump is "but Harris…"

(only except the argument that Harris is racist is clear nonsense.)

I can’t imagine too many in swing states voting Stein but democrats are worried enough that they’ve taken adds out campaigning against her according to article below.

It will be very interesting to see if these other candidates start to get increased votes this time around where voters don’t wish to vote for either candidate for whatever reason - the fact that Trump and Harris are neck and neck maybe that’s where the Democrat votes are going??

So your idea of voting is to go out and vote for whoever will pi$$ people off the most not actual important reasons. Do you do this in elections you can vote in

Being a Contrarian is actually a thing.

There's no shortage of them, in the real world, or on here.

Incredibly frustrating to deal with. I managed one in the work environment for a number of years. They were a constant negative influence.
