I am trying to do a scan and the satellite option is only for 16.0E and it will not let me change this. When I look at the tuner setup it is for 28.2E. It doesn't matter if I go to the automatic scan or manual scan it will not let me change the satellite setting.

Any suggestions on how to change the satellite option to 28.2E ?

    HI All

I've lost ITV 1 2 3 4, I checked lyngsat but the frequencys don't seem to work. I got back the +1 ITVs no problem. I have read that the SD channels are shut down in the UK and you have to have hd boxes etc. I have a zgemma h7s. Also btw, I found that Eden is now a free channel which I turned in.

    TIA

You need to change your sat info like this and save. Make sure you have a feed from 28.2

Use that line and arrows on left and right of OK button on remote to go to sat of your choice.

Lads - is there any point in having two epg sources running? (i.e. openTV and EPGimporter) Would they just be replacing the epg.dat file every time, or would they supplement missing data (filling in the blanks as it were)?

I think choose one or you might get conflicting info.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 445 ✭✭mburke

    Hi greasepalm,

I have the same setup tuner as yourself but when I go to auto scan or manual scan that satellite is set to 16.0E and it doesn't let me change it. If I do an auto scan it only comes back with the saorview channels as the sat is on 16.0E which will not return results. See attached.

Do you have one cable only as i see TUNER A only

If you have a second cable going to TUNER B , do you also have it setup as Simple and Single

It looks like you were trying to scan 1 tp only

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 445 ✭✭mburke

I have a second cable for Tuner B and it is setup the same as Tuner A with simple and single.

Update: Problem solved and probably should have done this from the start. Unplugged the device for 2 minutes and then started it again. The settings for satellite with autoscan / manual scan are back to 28.2E.

How come running Autobouquetmakers scan fixes some broken channels and sometimes it does nothing?

Whats the easiest way I can automatically tell it to rescan and fix any channels that have changed frequency but not mess up the order I have my channels in?

Or is there an app where I can just list all the channels I want on my laptop in the order I want and have it tune in just those channels?

ABM is set to a region so if a channel changes and it’s not in that region it won’t be picked say utv and you are using London. If you put all your CHAANELS that you watch in favourites and run arm it won’t touch favourites but when a channel goes you have to add it back in using remote or other methods like openwebif, dreamboxedit . I can see all these recent changes settling down soon so abm can be left.

    https://en.kingofsat.net/pos-28.2E.php

A full scan on 28.2 should pull in 778 channels.

ABM should update all channels , does provider file need updating.

On the second page on Favourites there is a bouquet for your list of channels that is not affected when ABM is set to run.

Some channels have been removed like sd ones .

Check KOS frequencies to see if still alive.

So if I get a wifi dongle and just get openwebif open on my laptop is there a way I can just tell it to fix all the broken channels automatically or is it still a case of going down through them and having to manually put in the Kingofsat frequencies?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 18,158 ✭✭✭✭Thargor

Also can you add new channels to your current list in openwebif or is it just editing the ones that are already there?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,823 ✭✭✭swoofer

You can set up ABM to run just once and it will tune in all the missing channels, in other words it updates your bouquets and the only bouquet not amended if if you have added channels to favourites.

and yes you can only make use of webif after you have added the new channels. I posted a while back how to set ABM and add move channels.

Thanks. My whole channel list is a mess tbh, some American religious thing seems to have taken over the slots of a load of channels so they show up under the right name but its the wrong channel, others are just black screens, ABM doesn't fix either, nothing wrong with the dish alignment I could fix them with the painful manual method Greasepalm outlined a few pages ago if I had a few hours to spare.

How would I go about doing a full rescan (preferably without wiping the Saorview channels) to get all the sat channels in one list, then I could go down through them in openwebif and delete the crap?

Ive said it before, I wouldn't consider myself slow when it comes to tech stuff, I mess around with Linux distros and build my own pcs etc but this is the most ridiculously overcomplicated piece of technology I own, its absolutely impenetrable and you cant google anything for it because every version is so different.

Am I missing something simple like a list of all the decent UK channels you can just download to a USB and flash the box with it or anything like that? I dont want different categories of channels in different bouquets I just want a nice clean list of all the available English channels.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,951 ✭✭✭greasepalm

If your using ABM you have an option to scan on sat or Saorview or both .

I only use the Bouquets for all the sections , BUT on second page it allows you to make up your own list and does not get altered on a new ABM scan. There is a way of moving channels to YOUR Favourite bouquet to use.

Dreambox edit was also an old way of doing your list and re installing them back on your box.

    superseded and not required.

After quitting Sky I started with a Tiviar Alpha Plus as that was all the rage here around about 2011 or so. There was a complete image posted by a user on here.

It was OpenATV , and you are 100% correct. Knowing nothing about E2 at the time , I found it dense and impenetrable , and being linux , very little support. Ive always found linux to be more in the camp of " I know something you dont know " and " if you help them too much they will never learn" camp.

Any help you get asks more questions than it answers !

Then I found openvix ….. and it has a full manual.

    https://www.openvix.co.uk/openvix-builds/Guides%20and%20Tutorials/VIX%20Manual%20Vs%201.1.pdf

Reading this will give you an excellent handle on how E2 works. Even non openvix versions , you at least have an idea of what you are looking for after reading it.

Now I know how to set up a box off by heart.

1: Run the Wizard to set up your LNB and Tuners , then exit the wizard at that point.

2: Set up ABM to run nightly , default is 3:30am. Keep ALL the bouquets.

3: Set up EPG downloader and run it.

4: Set up your favourites in the assigned Bouquet.

    Thats it.

At this point , hit the blue button and make a full backup to USB stick. Any trouble and you can get back to this point in minutes.

All your watching is done from the favourites Bouquet. If a Channel moves , then the EPG for that channel will be blank in your favourites bouquet. But no worries , because the " new " version of the missing channel will have been tuned on your box in the relevant bouquet during the nightly scan.

There have been a lot of channel moves lately , all the ITV HD channels have moved recently , 1,2,3,4, and Be HD.

Type the IP address of box into any web browser , and openwebif will open.

Choose Bouquet Editor , and on top right panel scroll down until your favourites is highlighted.

On the top left , search all channels for the offending channel.

Highlight it and click " Add To Bouquet" , as favourites is highlighted , it will add the channel to the bottom of the list.

Now in your "favourites" Bouquet window bottom right , Delete the old channel slot , and go to the bottom of the list , click and hold on the burger icon in the "new" channel name , and drag into the position you want it.

    Simple as that.

With the recent name changes to some channels, U+ etc. my picons are no longer working for all the channels. To update them, do I just have to redownload the picon plugin and it will do it automatically? I'm on OpenVix 6.6 but I can't remember the name of the original set of picons I installed.

You can simply rename that picon , just make sure it exactly matches the channel name as it appears in your channel list

Okay thanks for this everybody Im going to get a wifi dongle and try a full rescan and set up a favourites bouquet. The other problem is there are 3 of these boxes in my tenants rooms but they're all on the same version so hopefully Ill just be able to flash them with a USB backup when I get my living room one sorted at last.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 18,158 ✭✭✭✭Thargor

Ill stop annoying ye after this, will this work as plug and play without me having to get it online and look for drivers?

Right so I got the wifi adapter, got it working, can access Openwebif through my laptop fine. Ran autobouquet, followed your instructions, spent an hour making up my list of favourites and getting them into order in Openwebif. Set my living room tv to favourites and… most of the channels I added are dead.

So now Im thinking that my "All channels" and "Providers" lists in Bouquet Editor are a mix of dead channels and working channels?

But Ive definitely seen autobouquet bring dead channels back to life before so now Im even more confused, is there a way to get it to eliminate dead channels from the list before I go making bouquets?

Or do I just bite the bullet and do a full rescan?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 18,158 ✭✭✭✭Thargor

For the full rescan, Im planning on going into Menu>Setup>Tuners and Scanning>Automatic Scan

    With the following settings:

    Network Scan - NO

Clear Before Scan - YES (Wipe all the sat channels from openwebif and replace with fresh only working channels?)

Scan Tuner A (DVB-S2X) - NO (Hopefully keeps my saorview channels?)

    Scan Tuner C (Combined DVB-C/T2) - YES

Ill then go back and follow your instructions to hopefully create a working favourites bouquet. Will this work or am I just completely lost?

Did you do this and I still don't know the image and skin. When you configyre ABM use sky UK and I ue london hd.

" what you can do is a manual scan using tuner A and selecting 28e satellite, you will get the option to clear before scan and this will delete all the sat channels , you get the option to scan either free to air or all. The best option is free to air. Also say no to network scan. Now green button to scan, it will take a while. Once finished you will have all the channels. Exit out and press ok and arrow up then press red button and channels will be in alpha order. And some may have only numbers. You now have to configure ABM to put all those channels into genres, news, music, entertainment, etc and you hide sections you don’t need. Once run you can now move those genres up and down to speed access. And you can create your favourite list of all the channels you watch most often.

What I would need to know is the image you are using and the skin so go menu setup about and either read it off or take a pic. it makes it a lot easier to give assistance.

😱 who are you following?? Have you 2 cables to the box? tuner A and B are for the sat ETC.

I think your lost, automatic is for a motorised system when dish moves from sat to sat but if you are following andy I'll drop out.

I posted a basic setup guide here a few months back with a few explanations etc. It's based on openatv but it all really applies to other images, too.

I'm still on what I describe there and nothing else. The odd time I do a software update via ssh (opkg update && opkg upgrade), havent done a full rescan in 6 months or more just ran abm lately took like 2 minutes and all is fine and up-to-date. Even preserves all my bouquets and everything. Only difference I dont really bother with favourites. I have Saorview, then UK Entertainment, +1, Music, Movies, News, BBC Red Button and abm doesnt mess with that.

You will notice I have asked for image and skin a few times. with vix epg is a lot easier by using openepg downloader etc but skins can affect scanning as well.

footie now so away for a while
