@Latro , how are you calculating your heatpump COP?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 222 ✭✭Latro

It is calculated by the heat pump which is integrated with HA.

Folks - Looking for help. Recently moved into a new build and I am working my way through learning the ins and outs of HA. I have a Ergocell inverter and 5kWh battery setup installed by a one-stop shop.

The inverter is using a Solarman stick logger via ethernet and I've access to my data from the Solarman app.

I'm struggling to integrate into HA. I've followed steps based on the Solarman integration via HACS - but to no avail. I'm more a novice at HA than I thought really.

Anyone have any experience or success in getting a setup like this running?

The Ergocell looks like a rebadged KStar (same as the MyEnergi Libbi). Try the kstar_hybrid.yaml definition file and see how you get on.

To be honest, I'd recommend removing home_assistant_solarman and instead switching to ha-solarman, which is an actively maintained fork.

Is it possible to run both ha-solarman and home_assistant_solarman together so I can test if the new fork is going to work for me?

I haven't updated anything on the original since v1.4.3 for fear I'd brick something.

I haven't tested both together, but you could install ha-solarman, and then disable (but not remove home_assistant_solarman) and see how you go?

Presumably, there are commonalities between the two and so installing ha-solarman might overwrite on top of home_assistant_solarman?

They each have their own directories in custom_components so they can be installed side by side but there might be conflicts in terms of sensor names etc and the second one will probably have numbers appended to differentiate.

Both can't run at the same time though as the data logging stick won't like it.

This worked as recommended - thanks for the help. I just need to modify some entities to map them correctly into the energy dashboard and good to go. I'll share some nice dashboards soon I hope!

Finally got my install sorted today ( just in time for not-much-solar for the next few months! ). Sofar inverter.

I had bought this - https://www.tindie.com/products/thehognl/esp32-c3-with-rs485-modbus-and-optional-touch-tft/ to connect to my HA instance instead of using the datalogger / solarman servers but realised I don't even know what cable I'm supposed to be buying for it! (power to USB-C is fine - but then I need an RS485 (@Sofar) to 3 [GND , A, B ] - which I don't even know what to search for!).

Any ideas, pointers? Am hopeful that once I'm connected (which means disconnecting the existing COMs and losing Solarman (correct?) ) the actual integration stuff should be quite straightforward to get the CT entities etc into HA.

edit: I see I need to tap into the existing COM adaptor and get a cable @ 5 and 6 in there - and map that back to the ESP32 A/B

On the energy dashboard in HA.

Is there a way to get a figure for self consumed solar?

I know I can hover over the bars to get it but I'd like to see it "live".

    thanks

Anyone who is more confident than me able to confirm my thoughts on tapping into the COM set up?

the ESP32 board has an 'A' 'B' and 'GND' that can be connected - but I am only about 75% confident on what needs to map to what on the COM port.

    So 5,6 and 7.

Any idea which is +/- for A/B on the rs485?

  • Moderators, Home & Garden Moderators Posts: 7,029 Mod ✭✭✭✭graememk

    + should be A and - should be B

Ugh - got 85% of the way towards getting the Sofar connected to the ESP32 device this evening and gave up / bottled it. Wiring @ the com port seems very very finicky / delicate - and I was not at all certain of how to actually lock the wires in place there.

I've the sofar2mqtt side of stuff all set up fine - but just 'tapping in' was a bit scarier/fiddlier than I was anticipating.

Guys, ok so have installed the simple Solis Modbus integration on HA and started building a flow card etc, trying to match how I have the cloud ones set up.

I'd like to try the charge/discharge card and was looking to add it as a manual card (unless there is a simpler way).

I see the code in the Solis modbus document, can I just copy paste the code into the card config window, if so what do I do with the "" after type:

type: vertical-stackcards: - type: horizontal-stack cards: - type: entities entities: - entity: number.solis_time_charging_charge_current name: Charge Current

Do I remove them "" then paste in the code and save it?

I'll do a backup before I do anything JIC.

    Thanks

Picked up a Shelly wall display, screen is really nice, crisp and sharp. It has support for home assistant too which is nice. Built in thermometer is useless though, an external one can be purchased. The heat from the screen varies depending on ambient light and changes the temp.

Nice! Does it control the light switch it's wired into? Recently purchased the NSPanel Pro from Sonoff only to discover it doesn't, even though the non pro version does. Luckily I had a spare miniR4 and could just about fit it all in the box!

It has a built in switch, I don't have it wired to that though, it's wired to an old thermostat.

Yeah it's grand. Does what I need it to although had to do a bit of messing around with it to get Home Assistant working locally on it. Only reason I went for it over the Shelly was the price but factoring in the extra miniR4 I had to use I think the Shelly would have been a better option.

That looks good. Appreciate your effort to post the info.

Im HA all the way. What amount of effort is required to configure it, was it easy, medium or Ernest Shackleton level?

Can you setup a rotating set of screens so that the content loops while it's sleeping?

Configuration is simple, you download and install the latest firmware, you select home assistant in a menu, then put in your HA username and password.

You can have it use a screensaver, looping between images you upload, or you can have the screen turn off while idle. It can also just show the time, temp and humidity on a black background.

As it happens this YouTube guy did a comparisons between the Shelly and the Sonoff a day or two ago and he recommends the Shelly

Yeah that's why I went for the non pro version as well for the two relays, pitty the damn electricians that wired the house didn't bother running neutral to all light switches or I'd replace with these everywhere.

You do have to open these up once to flash them for HA but OTA works after that

    image.png

@allinthehead I assume with the shelly you can just tap off power from a nearby socket (no reason can't do the same with the nspanel ofc)

gents - anyone with an idiot's guide / youtube clip of someone tapping into that COM port? I was tempted to have another go tonight but genuinely don't see how I'm supposed to be able to get the wires secured. I have the ESP32 all set up with Sofar2MQTT all set up and configured - however I can't get the "connection to inverter" sorted as haven't had the confidence to just go for it.

I don't even really know what to search on youtube / google for how-tos either!?
