For the day that's in it I thought I'd share some of my drawings and random thoughts :D

This is the best title run in I can remember, some teams making a late push, others falling all over themselves.

I'd back Pat's if there was more than 3 games to go. Rovers probably have the nicest run in but also a mid week match v Larne next week. Galway's GD means they are likely out of it, meanwhile Derry have thrown it away more times than I can count.

I'll be very interested to see how Shels do after a long break, if ever a team needed one it was them. I really can't make a prediction on what will actually happen because everyone is either playing each other, or teams that can take points, lots of chat about quality of the league, but I think the depth is good, not sure anyone will take 9 points. Rovers the best bet to do that.

A great night ahead, who is going to win this thing?

Derry can win it with picking up 7 points as they have a better goal difference than Rovers

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 753 ✭✭✭wijam

na, we are level on points with Rovers, so need to win all 3 I expect

I’m always hopeful, but god only knows why after recent results

My bad, you're right. If Rovers draw tonight and Shels and Derry win Rovers are out of it.

Good to see another long suffering Derry fan around here. At least now I will have backup when I tell everyone how hard a watch we have been for last 2 or 3 years.

Unless you're a RH fan boy of course!!

Definitely not an RH fanboy, over his 3 years we should have been looking at 3 league titles, but in each season we've imploded at some stage of the season over the course of 9-10 games, and that's on the manager and the players

Definitely think we've hammer the Drogs in the final, but don't ask me about the next 3 matches as I haven't a clue #RAWA

Good response by Shels anyway, howler by defender

Looked like a Waterford player nudged a Shels player into the Waterford player, a strange one ?

Good response by Shels, terrible defending by Waterford player, similar to goal under 21's conceded last week.

Looked like a ridiculous lunge from John Martin to me, should never be off his feet in that manner in the box.

the amount of goals conceded by defenders and goalkeepers taking unnecessary risks has reached a laughable level.

Unfortunately the school of thought that every defender and goalkeeper should be Bekenbauer has filtered down the age groups in Ireland.

That's a huge pen scored for Shels.

And now Rovers score..... all 4 leading going into the last 5 minutes.

Shels all over the place since the goal, don’t bottle this!

    Edit: 3-1! Come on!

    Cracking 3rd for Shels

How has the ref allowed those last two corners be taken like that. Ball about half a meter away from the area.

Ref keeping Pats in the hunt here….

If you're talking about the handball claim then shtopppp. There was a foul on Keohane in the following attack not given but that's one of those things.

    As you were.

Derry Shels could be a title decider on the last day yet!

Pats Derry draw next week please

Really enjoyable game in Inchicore, even on the losing side. We played well, pushed Pats all the way but just lacked quality at the vital times. Forrester was superb, made the two goals but we shouldn't have given him so much space. Pats played some lovely football, even when taking risks from the back.

Our goal was a screamer too, worth a watch.

Pats lost Elbouzedi first half and Mulraney second half so that might come back to hurt them yet. Leavy did very well replacing Elbouzedi.

Really good game in United Park.

Rovers, as you would expect, were the better team but we gave them a really good game and it took a worldy to win it.

Looking at the teams, I think only DJT from our squad would make their bench but we matched them for effort throughout.

Catching Bohs is gone now and that might suit Shels next week as we're missing players and I wouldn't be risking more with the cup final and play-off to come.

We deserved that win, Waterford offered nothing in the second half really.

2pts clear with 2 games left is a nice position, especially with 2 in the pack playing next week and us playing a hopefully disinterested Drogs, who we haven't beaten all season.

Fair review. I thought once Galway scored the equaliser which was an excellent strike, we got a shock and kicked on and were in control for most of the rest of the match until the very last few minutes when Galway threw everything at us. First half was very tight and a quality pass by Forrester which set up Keena for our first was the only difference between the two sides. Forrester and Keena were excellent tonight, both involved in the goals and Keena was excellent as the lone front man. Our defence was really good for the most part also. Galway weren't bad it has to be said and Hickey is a very difficult player to stop as he's both good in the air and skilful with the ball.

Other results didn't go our way for the title shot but it's still crucial to guarantee European football as much as possible. Huge match next week against Derry particularly as Mulraney and Elbouzedi both went off injured.

FOr a while there I was getting excited.

Then it all went to pieces.

Massive game next week. Need 3pts or league is gone.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 12,662 ✭✭✭✭ben.schlomo

Agree on Keena, he'd a very good game. Didn't turn up the last time we played ye but he looked a different player tonight.

In fairness to Doyle i thought he had a good game too. Let the game flow and the foul on Keohane late on was the only thing he missed all night.

We were the better team overall, but it didn’t necessarily feel like the goal was coming when it came

Yeah I'd agree with that, I never felt we'd lose in the second half but it was difficult for us to find an opening against them, they were content to sit back and do nothing at all.

Burt's goal was magic all the same. Proper release of tension.
