Watching Prime Time on RTE1 +1, and the Israeli general(?) giving a stuttering speech, where as part of it he says they "will use any means necessary". Who is holding them to account? Condemning their actions isn't going to affect them.

The death of Sinwar is a big propoganda victory for the Israelis. Hamas is not defeated though and nor is Hezbollah. The Israelis can take out key people but they can't destroy an ideology. They are on the path to self destruction.

You are in no position to accuse anyone.

Tell that to all the Jews of Israel today who are not full-blooded European.

Bibi does care about hostages, that is why most of them have been returned.

Hamas on the other hand, well we know what they do to hostages who are minutes away from being rescued. They are executed. And their people then suffer.

Someone who cheerleads for Vladimir Putin's main weapons supplier isn't in a position to make accusations of this kind.

There has been one nation in that region that has actually been wiping anything "off the map" and that's Israel. You can "call out" all the so called "excessive force" all you want, but facts are facts. Take a look at this map below, it shows very clearly what and who has been wiped off the map in the region and that's just up until 2012. More land has been taken since and more people murdered.

All the rhetoric about Iran or Hamas or whatever Israel's neighbours may or may not want to do is rendered moot when the reality of what Israel is ACTUALLY doing, right now today, is presented.

Yes, Iran and Israel are, as you say, "deeply problematic countries", but only one of them is genuinely wiping anybody off the map, an accusation that Israel is always accusing its neighbours of wanting to do, but is something they are engaging in themselves.

"Iran will put manners on Israel" is a statement. Where does that imply I "cheerlead". (that's a very immature word BTW)

Jesus - finally something we agree on Danzy - youre getting soft.

But rightly they all need to get together and just sort their stuff out. Im not sure Netanyahu is the person to lead Israel into the future and maybe now with Sinwar out of the way Hamas will collapse. But then theres the sticky situation with Lebanon - that might be more difficult to sort out.

It still doesn't change the facts that Zionism was a European movement, and it was they who signed the Balfour Agreement which effectively ignored and sidelined the overwhelmingly large majority of people who lived in mandatory Palestine. These facts are very much real and all you can do is babble on about the ancestry of modern Israelis.

I want a resolution to this but I accept that there has to be practical and difficult things done to get there .

Cool story bro, hope you are proud of your ignorance.

The land in question is the honelandnof several groups who come from the Cannanites. One of those groups is the Jewish people the other is, you guessed it, the Palestinians/Arabs.

Should have been a two state solution, but that ship had sailed, so now we are left with the mess. Eventually, Israel is more than likely going to commit Genocide against the Palestinians. When that does happen I hope the ICJ come down heavy on them, while the rest of the world (looking at you USA) apply the same levels of sanctions against Israel that have been applied against Russia.

So, the Jewish people shouldn't have a homeland or be allowed to live in the land of their ancestors?

Shall we apply the same logic to all other people displaced for generations by conquest/colonialism/etc?

I hope that the moderators make an exception on allowing the publication of the dead on this thread.

What you're looking at is the face of pure evil. The atrocities that he committed in the name of the people of Gaza have led them to utter ruin.

So, we only do things which have happened before? We can't try to right an historic wrong? Do you believe the Jewish people should be homeless that their ancestral homeland shouldn't be theirs?

Jews have a right to a homeland. What they don't have a right to is stealing the land from other people who also have a right to a homeland.

Yes, they are both canannites. This is a long feud between those groups in that part of the world, big differences now is that it drags other countries into and the scale of death is off the charts... due to Israeli over reaction and ease of being provoked.

There's one potential avenue for that to happen and that's if Harris and the Democrats get in, and even then that's more of a hope on my part than a certain actuality. What is certain, however, is if Trump manages to get back into the White House there will be no effort made at all to put any pressure on Israel to do anything.

History is a bit more than one side.

Yes the Nakbah, was an horrific event. There is no denying that… but that isn't the full story/picture.

That is not an excuse for what Israel has done to the Palestinians over decades and it doesn't excuse the fact that Israel is the only nation in the region that has actually been wiping a people and their land off the map.

If Netanyahu and his head bangers in Likud have their way they'll pursue to the fullest extent that they can.

Stop pretending you don't know this.

What exactly is it you claim I am pretending to not know?

That the Palestinian population was poorly treated?

That the Arab world hated the formation of Israel?

That it was done in a way that benefited only thr Jewish people?

    Which one?

I have never said it was a painless, victimless event. I have said time and time again that the Jewish people, like all people are entitled to have a homeland, and that stretch of land is theirs along with the Palestinian people. Hence we have this very ugly and messy problem. Which has been a feud between those two groups for a very long time.

I used to be blinded by ideology and very pro-Palestine. I was young and full of the same righteous zeal that you now display.

Now, I take no sides, but rather what we know to be true.

Israel commits war crimes against the Palestinians

Israel settles more and more land illegally from the Palestinian people.

The people of Palestinian feel they have no choice, but to side with terrorist such as Hamas.

The Palestinian people refuse a two state solution.

The Jewish people refuse a two state solution.

Hamas use the population of Palestinianas human shields and the land as a place to wage an asymmetrical war against Israel.

So, again..m what is it that I am pretending to not know?

As expected you couldn't up with an answer to the question. No, people shouldn't have an entitlement to somewhere they haven't lived for 2000 years just because of their ancestors. That is complete nonsense and again is applied nowhere else around the world. This is doubly true when there has been an existing population living in the region for centuries. It is pure nonsensical to suggest the Zionists were 'entitled' to Palestine.

I have no objection to a Jewish state, but it needed to be done with democratic means and logic, not shoehorning it somewhere where the vast majority of people were opposed to it. That was always going to lead to bloodshed and sadly this was predicted by the only body that actually looked into the situation properly at the time(King-Crane commission).

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 20,766 ✭✭✭✭Tony EH

I have said time and time again that the Jewish people, like all people are entitled to have a homeland

And no one disagrees with that.

However, what Israel are NOT entitled to is to displace and steal land that Palestinians are on.

This isn't just some "ugly and messy problem", it's been a slow and methodical exercise in ethnic cleansing for which Israel has a goal of entirely wiping out and taking over land that isn't theirs.

Now, I take no sides, but rather what we know to be true.

The truth is that there is ONE nation in the region who is actually, RIGHT NOW, wiping a people and a land off of the map and that's Israel.

STOP PRETENDING YOU DON'T KNOW THAT.

Netanyahu is a war monger. I still think he had Intel on the 7th if October attack, and allowed it to go ahead so he could 'justify' the actions of the IDF.

So, I see your 'Stop pretending you don't know this' is a catchphrase you resort to... allow me to indulge in one.

Netanyahu makes a rare address to Hamas in English, offering them an end to the war.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 20,766 ✭✭✭✭Tony EH

Perhaps Netanyahu did have intel on what Hamas was preparing to do. I don't know if that is a fact or not. However, you're still avoiding the point.

Israel is the ONE nation in the region who is actually wiping a people and a land off of the map.

    Do you accept that?

No more screeds, no more pretending, no more obfuscating.

Ah come on now. He knows full well they are not going to accept any peace offering... and he is banking on them refusing. The war gives him a surge in popularity. In order to hold into power he needs Hamas, Hezbollah and Iran to be aggressive.
