That's a fake screenshot. Might want to note that it's not actually part of the rumour or playtest. Plus it doesn't even start until October 24th.

Whatever Nintendo do is interesting, if not always successful, and gaming and gamers have always benefited.

Regardless of it being a NES, DS, Virtual Boy, WiiU or Switch, they've all added something of value to the hobby of gaming.

I'm sure this is playtest program is only going to increase their contribution, pending the awesomeness of the Switch successor!

Obviously the above screenshot is fake. It's concept art from years ago of what Miiverse on Switch might look like. I said "Rumour of the Playtest Program is that it's a Miiverse successor on Switch 2."

Nobody's going to have screenshots of the new Miiverse, if it's real.

    But just typical.

You made a statement, without a source, and used an image without context, only to return later when you realised it was a 6 year old mockup. You got dupped by a random Twitter post who themselves got dupped by the same image. Typical and not surprising.

“It's already been shared.” No it hasn’t. Like you said, it’s a “rumour”. Often known to be false when speculating about Nintendo.

Don't presume what I "realised", because it's BS. I returned when you, as usual, tried to pick apart and criticise my post. "Typical and not surprising."

I'm on Discord and other forums where I seen this and it's been discussed, hours before I posted here. But no, I got "duped"(that's how it's spelled btw). It's just a concept image as there are no real images.

My point was that Miiverse could be returning. 🤞 I loved Miiverse, a lot of people never got to experience it. It will be a real feather in the cap of Switch 2 if it happens.

Keep at it, and I'm going to block you.

Sakurai devotes his penultimate YouTube video to the memory of Satoru Iwata

    Mr. Iwata [Grab Bag]

It wouldn't be right to end this channel without touching on this topic. By the way, this is the 31st and final video in the Grab Bag category!

Hi all, 👋🏼 Irish expat / immigrant living in Canada 🇨🇦. Just joining this forum as an avid Nintendo gamer since SNES. I’ve worn down the rubber on joy-con sticks the Switch has gotten so much use.
Currently making my way through Echoes of Wisdom and loving it.

Welcome. I take it you listen to IGN's NVC with that username.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 19 SuperNinFriendo

Thanks. No I don’t listen to that. Sometimes I will browse IGN.com but usually just use Google News.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 24,385 ✭✭✭✭sligeach

Ah, ok. I associate that phrase with them as they usually say hello SuperNinFriendo's at the beginning of the show. Maybe they didn't come up with it, but it's the only place I've ever heard it said.

So, how is Echoes of Wisdom ?

I wasn't a fan of the Link's Awakening remake since I didn't have the nostalgia for the original game, as I never played it. I just found the game clunky and illogical.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 10,438 ✭✭✭✭SuperBowserWorld

That's a nice tribute. I hope Nintendo stay Japanese and don't go down the Sony or Disney route.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 181 ✭✭ThePandazorian

I thought it was excellent. It’s far better than Links Awakening imo. It’s also semi-open world. Well the world is open, but not all dungeons can be accessed from the beginning. It still uses the format of - do a few dungeons, something happens, do a few more. Very enjoyable game.

Damn, apparently Gamefreak has been hacked and a ton of stuff acquired. Unverified of course and apparently posts containing actual details are being Ninja’d by Nintendo already. Not gonna post any links to stuff either. Google if you want more.

the switch 2 will be more powerful and it should be backward compatible and have a controller designed to be cheap and easy to repair .maybe have different modes, eg super hd, hd to extend battery life. the problem is the more powerful it is the shorter the battery life . nintendo does not hd 4k modes or raytracing ,if you want that just buy a ps5. People buy nintendo consoles because they like nintendo games and it has games that can be played by anyone over the age of 7

Even that mild tweet was deleted. Source code for DS titles, info on unreleased titles, code names for unreleased titles and the Switch 2 code name being “ounce”, as well as, Gamefreak employee data has been stolen.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 24,385 ✭✭✭✭sligeach

The only thing I was interested from the Game Freak hack is that Switch 2 is supposedly codenamed Ounce.

But we've heard that before from a previous rumour, where Switch 2 is codenamed "Muji", which translates from Japanese to "Ounce". So we're no better off than we were.

    Internet Archive is down too!

So many good resources for Nintendo fans as well as Arcade & Retro game fans, which all mean the likes of me!

Hopefully it'll be back up and running soon

I'm fine with that, it's akin to Nintendo - > Super Nintendo. Not at all like the mess they made of the Wii U naming.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,051 ✭✭✭Mr.Saturn

It'd be a relief if it's something as simple as Switch 2, to be frank. Nintendo have an unfortunate history of overcomplicating these things.

Gotta admit that, as cool-sounding as some of the 90s console names were, Sony really did play a blinder with just sticking a number at the end of the console name and incrementing it with each new version.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,051 ✭✭✭Mr.Saturn

And Microsoft did the exact opposite with whatever they did with each Xbox generation.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 19 SuperNinFriendo

Switch 2 is ultimately the best name imo. Clear and direct that it’s a successor and not a refresh type model. Too many people get paid too much money to come up with “cool” names. Sony got it right with Playstation…2….3….4….5

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 24,385 ✭✭✭✭sligeach

I've been discussing this elsewhere. If it's keeping the same form factor, the same NSO, it's backwards compatible with Switch, then it would make sense to just go with Switch 2. Making it clear that it's a new system. It's what a lot of companies do.

The last thing Nintendo would want is a repeat of their disastrous marketing for Wii U. It was dead on arrival, the marketing and naming was so bad.

I think it will be Switch 2, as Nintendo aren't going to abandon the zeitgeist that is the Switch branding. Calling it the Super Switch or similar, runs the risk of confusing the market.

I think they'll do a couple of other things to make it clear to consumers. The Joy-Cons will be larger, have SNES coloured buttons. They might go with white for marketing the system, like Wii.

If it was a personal preference, I'd go with something like Super Switch instead of Switch 2. But going the numerical route makes it really clear to the uninitiated.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,171 ✭✭✭jos22

they could go the route they did the with DS and call it New switch.

not that I think they should, Switch 2 would be easiest way to tell people its a follow up system

I remember the theory was at the time, that any proposed Xbox 2 would have been competing with the PlayStation 3....and 3 is higher/better than 2 in the progressive sense, so MS went with 360 instead.

The whole thing after that though is really bad, One and Series....

Nintendo Switch 2 May Use Same Tools and ROM Format as Current Console, Potentially Making It Easy to Emulate
