bar the tight head trying to separate your head from your body at every scrum , then yes hooker is an easier position 😆

They all weren't with one province at one time and their province didn't have dominate central contracts to extent leinster do now.

Very hard for other provinces to get anywhere near quantity and quality of players leinster produce because of the money in the leinster system. Schools. And how they then can spend money on clubs(youths) that others have to/need to spend on schools as well

Calling other provinces failures is just ignorant of circumstances in the other provinces

Not treading onto the money topic again post the mod-warning, but the features you're describing in terms of population disparity, number of rugby playing schools etc, perception of a wealthier population base etc - have all been the case for at least 100 years in all likelihood, and certainly were the case back in the late 90s / early 2000s when Munster were in the ascendency and in their glory era.

Why wasn't it the case then that the sheer numbers argument meant Leinster were the dominant force in player development?

  • Moderators, Sports Moderators Posts: 5,000 Mod ✭✭✭✭Lost Ormond

That's about only time Munster we're ahead though. As has been discussed before AIL had come into play from 1991 on and Munster dominated that and it began to show at higher levels and leinster were behind there.

Mod: You were told - twice - to drop it, FTD. Two week threadban.

@Lost Ormond you were late to this discussion but lets leave it at that please.

Disappointing that they're won't be live TV coverage of the Munster v ABs game.

It will be available on Access Munster

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 12,269 ✭✭✭✭aloooof

That's a shame, but you'd imagine a decent number will sign up to Access Munster, even just for the one month, for that match alone so worth a few bob?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2, Paid Member Posts: 26,511 ✭✭✭✭phog

Yes and the quality is generally very good but you really can't beat TV

long trip down to SA today for the squad .

Any idea did everyone travel , particularly Casey, Crowley , beirne , Nash , ?

Possible team for Saturday in capetown , forecast is 20 deg and pleasant so heat shouldn’t be an issue and it’s sea level and same time , so tiredness will be only factor

    Possible starting team

Ryan, scannell, archer, Wycherley , klyne, JOD, Coombes, hodnett, Murray , burns , McCarthy, nanks, Farrell, o Brien , Haley

Everyone who's fit will have travelled. That includes the internationals.

Sheahan being loaned to leinster because of their injury crisis at hooker apparently.

Having watched it back I'm not as despondent as I was leaving croker.

Haley was excellent for us, Crowley got alot of stick from leinster fans where I was sitting but I thought both half backs went well.

We didn't drop in intensity, didn't conced in 2nd half.

Some analysis has Leinster goin flat to win it in the 1st 25 & then it's all game management from there on, a real SA trait but I'm not convinced they are that good yet.

Good banter at the game bar some of the ott nonsense of "thanks for contributing to RG salary by attending"

The smugness wears thin v quickly

Onwards to SA, would expect a good few changes for the first game.

On the road, bit of heat on their backs might actually suit for the few weeks

On a group chat that I'm in, I said that if Haley was on the winning team his performance would have made him MotM.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 12,269 ✭✭✭✭aloooof

Haley was absolutely class, back to his very best. I suggested on the Leinster thread he was better than Keenan (as good as he was) and I stand by that tbh. Exceptional in the air and very evasive counter-attacking, and rewarded with a try too. His metres gained this season are nuts tbh.

Woulnt mind bringing Donnelly and Foxe back down to SA, we’ve got a lot of injuries in the front. I think we need to start looking ahead into the future too, the likes of Archer, Ryan, Kilcoyne have been great servants, but they are in their mid 30s now and can’t be expected to keep going.
With that being said, Archer has played incredible in his past two trips to SA, so there’s that!

Big ask now with the injury list and the trip to SA; you'd imagine 5 points would be considered a good haul? We seemed to learn a lot from our first trip there in 2021/22 season where we played well, but fell away as the game progressed, to lose both games and have a really good record since.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 12,269 ✭✭✭✭aloooof

I think Archer's current deal was for 6 months? That could easily be extended the way he's going. Honestly think the last 2 seasons or so have been the best of his career.

Rowntree stated last week that we'd have some bodies back for the trip to SA. Looking at social media Shane Daly looks to have travelled.

I'm sure we'll get a touring squad announced later today along with an injury update.

Mark Donnelly has undergone ankle surgery following an injury sustained on the Emerging Ireland tour and will be unavailable for six to eight weeks.

Josh Wycherley had neck surgery last week and will be out for four months.

Continuing to rehab: Dave Kilcoyne (ankle), Oli Jager (neck), Peter O’Mahony (hamstring), Patrick Campbell (shoulder), Cian Hurley (knee), Edwin Edogbo (Achilles), Roman Salanoa (knee

Good to see all of Quinn, Evan O'Connell, Ben O'Connor and Ronan Foxe in the squad. And see Burns, Daly and Scannell too. Especially Daly, thought he was going to be out for longer.

No mention of Shay McCarthy, presumably just didn't travel?

Id prefer if the TMO was the ref and the ref was somewhere else

    Referee: Mike Adamson

AR 1: Aimee Barrett-Theron AR 2: AJ Jacobs

    TMO: Hollie Davidson

The head of the URC refs has said "it shouldn't have happened" re Munster having to play with 14 for a period in Saturday evening.

At least the recognise the error and held their hands up.

We've alot of injuries at LHP, basically our 2nd, 3rd and 4th choice are all going to be in rehab now. Think it might be better if John Ryan just stays at LHP this year, and hopefully Jager and Salanoa can get back eventually. Could see Foxe make his debut this tour.

when do we cut our losses on salmoa …..constantly injured ….we’ve good decent solid front rows but jagger aside (and he’s been injured a fair bit)it’s a position we need serious recruitment in all 3 positions if we are to beat the best teams at tail end of season

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 12,269 ✭✭✭✭aloooof

IRFU are due to ban recruiting front-rows from next season tho, I think.

Humph already under pressure due to that silly rule.
