The Ryan Tubridy Show **Mod: Read OP**

it’s been proven many times that it’s the slot and not the host that brought in the listeners.
Sean O’Rourke and Callan both grew the slots over their more well-known predecessors Kenny and Tubridy.

Callan usually begins his show with a satirical vignette on the days affairs especially when the story of the day is domestic or American politics. I thought he could have got a lot more mileage out of the weekends stories and SFs troubles. It was tame by his standards for that segment tbh.

Just my observation, but maybe I got it all wrong.

I can rarely listen during the time the daily show is scheduled due to work commitments. Perhaps it’s changed stylistically from when I last caught it, but to me at least the daily show was just a light-hearted talk show that covered fairly light-weight topics and was focused on not upsetting the apple cart too much; a sort of break for the brain between the meatier Morning Ireland and Claire Byrne as it were.

I know he’s thrown out the occasional very brief impersonation (usually confined to a catchphrase or a buzzword the person being portrayed would be known for) and joke in the show, but I found it an altogether very different proposition to the Callan’s Kicks for at.

Likewise I may be wrong (as I have already stated I can rarely during the morning, particularly between 9-10), and maybe the daily show now has more humour* injected into it than I remember.

• humour of course being subjective, for example some people find/found shows like Dad’s Army and Last of the Summer Wine amusing. No doubt someone will be along soon to proclaim that Callan is as funny as having his scrotum punctured with a sharp object or some equally painfully injury…..

MLMcD - along with many other SF politicians (O’Neill, Doherty, O’Broin….and others) - is mocked on almost every single episode of Callan’s Kicks; indeed I can’t recall one where she wasn’t/they weren’t.

Your assertion he holds back on them is laughable.

As per a previous post humour is subjective; so if you don’t like his style of humour, that’s perfectly fine. We can agree to disagree on that.

Your assertion that he’s not as venomous towards SF as he is towards other parties is something we will also have to disagree on. I would argue he’s an equal opportunity offender when it comes to dishing it out.

Perhaps if you’d listen a bit more you’d see it thus.

Even for Tubridy, it is bad. His fans might appreciate it but he's a radio and TV presenter out of his depth in print media. He is no longer a daily part of the lives of his former audience who now listen to Callan each day and watch Kielty on Friday nights.

Not strange for a popular radio show with callers and texters. Instagram seems to be the only feedback (doesn't seem to be much interaction on the part of Tubridy based on the screenshots posted) or have comments been enabled on Youtube? It seems like the podcast is an attempt to recreate the dynamics of the LLS in that it is almost a multi-episode audition for a return to RTE..

I can't see him ever being able to successfully host a live call in show again in Ireland as there'll always be people wanting to know how to set up a barter account and other ways to process undeclared earnings.
