Friday but it might be because I used a Visa Card in the past to top up that is definitely affected as even that issuer mentioned it in their update (Non-irish card).

Didn't get an email about it and I top up monthly and repay it straight away to get the 0.5% cashback the card issuer gives. Shame to loose the 25€ a month additional cashback for 2 transactions now 😢

You might be good, I think this will come down to the issue of the card, not revolut.

Speculate that revolut transactions are now coded with a High-Risk Merchant Category Code and hence some issuer will likely decline or charge additional cost or cash advance fee's (some already do).

But Debit cards should be fine, they might only hit credit cards.

Not long ago, Mastercard did a similar thing in which the MCC that Revolut uses finally (after years of loophole) was correctly show as Cash like and stopped loads of banks in Germany that used to give Airline Miles/Cash rewards/Hotels Rewards on these transactions to no longer. Lufthansa Miles and More cards were frequently used by people to top up Revolut and they got loads of Miles for it, that stopped and well loads of unhappy people.

Plus let's remember the top up via card is a hangover from the before Bank times for Revolut where they actually were just a skin for a third party UAE based wallet provider. Not many banks allow you to top up your current account via credit card (well Traderepublic does now but the German Regulator does not like that either).

Thanks I've asked revolut what MCC are they moving to but well it's revolut support I'm on second agent in as many minutes so I'm not all that hopeful they will actually be able to answer. Note: card is am using is a credit card.

Genuine question, why would you use a credit card to top up Revolut? I don't see any possible advantage to it

It feels like robbing Peter to pay Paul, except Peter is robbing you as well

    Cashback or Miles?

For the longest time my Lufthansa Miles and More Card gave me 1 LH mile for each 2€ spend, so instead of transfering from a current account to Revolut (for their benefits) I transfered it to my Lufthansa Card and than loaded Revolut. Generated a lot of frequent flyer miles that way before it was turned off. No harm caused as I did not use the credit function to pay back later.

But those times are gone, topping up Revolut is now no longer generating Miles. Sad.

Well the best thing is going to be to simply test it with a small amount on Tuesday and see what happens.

Because Revolut Customer Facing People won't' be able to tell you this (unless they escalate to the back end and then good luck), but once it hits your credit card account you will know.

It might just be a small subset of Visa Card providers mostly outside Ireland and hence they have not e-mailed Irish customers, German and Spanish Customers have reported getting mails in various forums. So, if beside me (having used a non irish card) no other irish customers got the mail, maybe it's not hitting our banking cartel at the moment.

Yeah I figured that was the incentive, but a lot of those schemes seem to be closing down or being curtailed

I guess banks aren't in the business of giving away free money, only appearing to give away free money 😂

I also am of the opinion that this is a dispute between Revolut and Visa and not something general.

Revolut used MCC 6012 (Financial Institutions – Merchandise, Services, and Debt Repayment) until about 5 years ago when they moved to MCC 4829 (Money Transfer). Some German customers got MCC 6011 (Financial Institutions – Automated Cash Disbursements). At least in my experience and from what I have seen from others. That was because well they finally operated under their own UK eMoney license rather than borrowing the UAE one.

My suspicion is that they will now have to move to MCC 6012 (Financial Institutions – Merchandise, Services, and Debt Repayment) as the definition of Visa is more appropriate for the type of service that Revolut UAB is offering "Account Funding – Financial Institution" or "Deposits – Financial Institutions".

This MCC must be used by Financial Institutions for the purchase of merchandise or services or the repayment of loans & debts. “Financial Institution” includes banks, savings and loans, thrifts, and credit unions. For example: the funding of an account.

But again, unless someone in Revolut tells us or we see the first charges which gives us that info we won't know.

But again Avantcard is already charging Cash Fee/APR for these top-ups.

Also note this will also most likely be the case for paying with a credit card via revolut.me to pay others!

You were correct in first line saying "I cannot give out that information" 🙄

I've asked why not as it's not privileged information, as you say a transaction on Tuesday will probably be faster than revolut support at getting the information 😆

Yeah, Revolut is great for several use case scenarios but as soon as you hit unusual question or scenarios support is well non existing or besides having scripted responses not really useful.

    It's one of those tradeoffs

Revolut is wondebar.I signed up to a company for a yearly subscription.I checked my account 2 days later to find that Revolut had altered the sub to monthly.Luckily I saw it.This is the first time it has happened to me with a sub.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,632 ✭✭✭SourSessions

Revolut sometimes recognizes recurring payments as monthly even if they're yearly. You wouldn't be charged unless it somehow changed your actual subscription on the company's site.

    That's what worried me.

Bought a snack on board an Aer Lingus flight a few weeks back and tapped on board. Had a declined transcation for the €3 yesterday and today from AL ?

Is revolut rejecting it as the airline has exceeded the time they have to claim the money or something? I scrolled back my account and the original debit never went through.

Am I getting my muffin for free ?!?!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,838 ✭✭✭beachhead

    Possibly

Presumably the alerts will stop eventually...

Try turning off location based security, something similar happened to me on a flight once

It's because the credit card readers are registered to an address in Sandyford and Revolut gets confused when it's getting a charge from 500km away and 3,000m in the air

Well too late now, just enjoy the stolen muffin 😆

Are the Aer Lingus ones Sandyford? I know Ryanair are serviced by Retail In Motion in Beacon Court. Maybe EI are these days as well 🤷‍♂️

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2, Paid Member Posts: 13,567 ✭✭✭✭the_amazing_raisin

    Run while you can! 😂

Pretty sure Aer Lingus use the same company, at least for some of their flights

It was an EI flight last year where I had the same issue

I couldn't even pay with Revolut last year with Aer Lingus and had no other cards got 2 free cans of Heineken though

On a Ryanair flight last year the woman beside me couldn't pay for her coffee so they took it back. Lucky for me, I didn't have to wait long for my coffee as they had one ready to go!*

    (*I paid for her coffee)

I have a monthly payment of €10 coming out of my account. This month I notice €10.66 has been taken. I'm on the free plan. Is there any reason for the extra charge.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,623 ✭✭✭optiplexgx270

Coming out of your account is vague can you be more specific? Is it a direct debit or standing order / scheduled payment out of revolut?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,936 ✭✭✭Cape Clear

Apologies. It's a €10 debit card payment a society subs that is taken monthly. This time €10.66 left my account. All times previously it just been the €10 taken.

Is this a direct debit? If so, you need to check with the debit originator.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,879 ✭✭✭bennyx_o

They've said it's a debit card payment, but your advice still stands

You can't do a monthly debit card payment. It's either a standing order payment originated by the person, or a direct debit originated by the recipient organisation.

If the former, check your Revolut settings. If the latter, contact the organisation.
