Big fight tonight at Mar-a-Lago. Who’s got the most bluster, Hurricane Milton or Trump.

You may well be right… and of course, the irony \ hypocrisy in all of those criticisms is that they can be applied to Trump with far more validity, foundation and evidence.

Well, if he decides to nuke the hurricane it could get interesting....

Your post contains falsehoods. The Governor of Georgia expressed satisfaction with Trump's contribution.

Governor Kemp said, 'I want to thank President Trump for coming back to our state a second time and keeping the national focus on our state as we recover.'

I might add that it seems you’re getting hung up on some minor communication inconsistencies, which is to be expected in a fast-moving situation.

Trump. Hurricanes have a propensity to follow through with threats.

But you did share lies from Trump.... You didn't disprove or reveal falsehoods in this response.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 37,977 ✭✭✭✭odyssey06

Nope, I can spot an obvious attempt at deflection when I see it, and the transparent double standards where you hold Trump to no standards at all, and attempt to manufacture criticism without foundation against Harris.
It's a fast moving thread but you think an irrelevent comment about Harris on Stern is more important than Trump's lies about an emergency situation? Lies that you repeated here without scrutiny?
Which is more significant? Trump lying and playing politics during an emergency? Diverting away services for his photo op?

And that's not what Trump claimed, and not the Trump lie you repeated here so don't pretend otherwise, it won't stick.
So nope, the posts that contain falsehoods are yours, you repeat Trump's lies here without scrutiny and then muddy the waters on them deliberately when challenged. You are just spreading Trump's fake news.

You repeated Trump's lies, Kemp publicly clarified that Trump's statement was false.

Trump has also made further demonstrably false claims about hurricance assistance. He continues to lie and you never hold him to account.

This was the false claim, not the gish gallop you attempted:
Trump also falsely claimed that Republican Georgia Governor Brian Kemp, with whom he held a joint news conference concerning disaster relief efforts on Friday, was unable to speak with Biden about federal disaster assistance over the phone.

The Georgia governor had directly contradicted Trump hours earlier, saying that he had spoken with Biden over the phone on Sunday, when the president pledged disaster assistance and told Kemp that he could "call him directly" for any additional help.

    Distraction and deflection.

What are some of the things they might be trying to distract from? How about the fact that Trump has never even heard of a Category 5 Hurricane coming on to land?

Which is amazing, because there were four Category 5 hurricanes which came onto land while he was President, including the one he drew on the map for with a sharpie because he said it was going to also hit Alabama even though it wasn't.

    Untitled Image

So now Trump says he's never heard of a Category 5 hurricane coming onto land? Even though he said the same thing 5 years ago as President?

He says he's never heard of a Category 5 hurricane, even though he has clearly and demonstrably heard of Category 5 hurricanes numerous times before, and was President who had to help manage the emergency, funding and repair works concerning Category 5 hurricanes.

But sure, Howard Stern asked Kamala Harris about her daily routine in one question during an interview, so everybody look at that! That's more important than a man who is either mentally unfit to be President or has such a lack of care and understanding about the American people that he just didn't care enough about the effects of previous Category 5 hurricanes on his citizens that it didn't register in his mind at all.

Sure, but just in case, I thought I'd ask.

Anyone who's seen the 1996 film Twister would understand the concept of a Cat 5 Hurricane.

The Kremlin have confirmed the story about Trump sending Putin the COVID testing equipment, but they are denying that Putin and Trump have had phone calls after Trump left Office

I thought all those cat 5 hurricanes always weakened to a lower category before they actually made landfall.

Have there been any cat 5 that stayed cat 5 right up to landfall?

    Google was not my friend.

Apologies if already posted but big swing to DT in the last few days on the betting markets. PA has now markedly swung in his direction (I think last week KH was slightly up there but open to correction on that) and he has closed the gap in the other swing states where KH is currently in the lead. Will be interesting to see where this is at over the weekend.

Former adviser Anthony Scaramucci has repeatedly said Trump hates being briefed by experts on things like this because he feels threatened by someone else’s intelligence and needs to feel like he’s the smartest person in the room - so it’s no surprise that he’s just gone back over whatever script he has in his head about hurricanes.

It’s also another of the hundreds of examples of just how mentally fragile he actually is.

    Polling largely showing the opposite.

Gamblers covering their bases now then likely rather than an actual shift to Trump

The latest NYT/Siena polling which is one of, if not the highest rated pollster shows Harris in the lead for the first time this week.

Betting markets are irrelevant and polymarket is probably a poor source.

    Best I can see is this;

    https://www.cbsnews.com/news/atlantic-hurricane-basin-category-5-united-states/

    "Hurricane Michael in 2018

Hurricane Michael barreled into Mexico Beach, Florida, on Oct. 10 with peak winds of 160 mph – making it the strongest storm on record to make landfall in the Florida Panhandle. It was the first Category 5 storm to make landfall on mainland U.S. since Andrew 26 years earlier.

The cyclone was initially measured as a Category 4 storm, but forecasters upgraded it in April 2019 after conducting a detailed post-storm analysis.

At least 74 deaths were attributed to the storm – including 59 in the U.S. and 15 in Central America.

Michael caused an estimated $25.1 billion in damages."

So one Category 5 hurricane did make landfall during Trump's time in office.

In a somewhat depressing fact, the name 'Michael' was retired from the naming rotation of Hurricanes (done when hurricanes result in significant damage). The 'M' name it was replaced with; 'Milton'.

Again, its worth highlighting that polymarket is backed by Peter Thiel who is heavily invested in a Trump win.

Harris isnt perfect in everything - out of her depth

Every word out of Trumps mouth is either or verifiable lie or batsh*t cray - that's ok.

Is the NYT/Siena poll national or down at swing state level?

Accept that but if you look over the last month you can see KH took the lead after the debate (at one stage around the 20th Sep it was pretty substantial) and held it until a week or so ago. There may be better exchanges out there (who are not tied to one candidate etc).

yes. Many. Including several during his presidency. Dorian made landfall as a category 5 in the Caribbean, Michael made landfall in the panhandle of Florida as a category 5 - Michael was also projected to be a Category 3 when it made landfall, but it wasn’t. Milton made landfall in the Yucatan peninsula as a category 5, it has restrengthened after doing so and is still a category 5, which was not previously in the model.

I don't really see a problem with Trump saying stuff 'this is going to be the worst storm ever, like nothing before, unprecedented'.
Tends to focus the mind, and arguably a better message than 'this is broadly similar to previous ones', even if that's the truth. As people's memories fade with time, and clearly anyone still alive now will have survived the previous ones, so might be lulled into thinking it won't be too bad.

So would give him a pass here (whilst clearly he is still a total expletive).

I'm operating under the assumption that the Melania book was part of an agreed "contribution" by Melania to Donnie's campaign. It's been pretty clear since early on that she wasn't all that pushed to do anything much to help out on that. In the rare instances that she actually appeared with Donnie she didn't do much at all, and didn't seem to want to be there. There was even one case of her being given an Advocasy Award at Mar-a-Lago as part of a campaign event, and she couldn't even be bothered to attend the event to recieve it. Donnie himself had to accept it in her sted.

So I suspect some kind of agreement happen some months ago, where the Trump staffers tried to convince her to contibute something and then they untimatly landed on this: "You don't need to do the appearances with him, but let's put your name on a memoir book. Then we'll use that to describe how your husband is a good President and you can do all the fun book-launch stuff..interviews etc… You get to keep the royalties, have the bragging rights of being an author and we'll even get someone to write it for you."

Thereafter, I suspect this is as far as Melania is likely to be arsed to do anything in aid of Donnie. The book itself is likely the work of a staffer and despite launch interviews being the norm (it tends to count as part of the advertising) she can't be bothered without some cash in it for her. I suspect that just like her infamous jacket…she just doesn't care.

If anything, she might actually be hoping for an election loss. Him losing might be the off-ramp she's waiting for to finally dump him.

Yes, I was the one who asked @Dingaan on 3 seperate occasions did he believe that Trump was telling the truth when Trump was telling lies about Kemp speaking to Biden. Unfortunately he chose not to answer.
