A good few of us on boards have south facing ground mounts. In my case I have 12 panels on the ground with another 7 on the roof of the garden shed. The inverter is in the shed and the power generated is then fed through the sheds distribution board back to the house distribution board in the utility.

He wouldn't necessarily have to have the inverter in the shed, he could have all the kit inside the house, it's just important to remember the battery and the inverter need to be in close proximity i.e. in the same room.

My ground mount is DIY however if I was doing it again I would probably just buy the plastic tubs. Less intrusive and easier to construct.

Iron air battery in the planning for Donegal

    https://www.ess-news.com/2024/09/27/ireland-in-line-for-1-gwh-iron-air-battery-storage-project/

    It's beside a substation.

Inb4: fire.. it's not lithium. It converts iron to rust and back again.

The UK has permanently stopped burning coal for electricity today. Great news, if only we could follow ASAP

They have declared this several times before.

Either Kilroot and Ballylumford (both in County Antrim) seems to be using coal today:

according to Wikipedia Kilroot and Ballylumford are no longer coal.

Could the coal in the chart be imported?

Sky news also reported coal free status for UK

As ireland as an island share a grid, anything from Irelands coal plants wouldn't be classed as imports.

Oh that's the all island pie chart.

    This is the NI one

Aha! I had selected Northern Ireland and the page didn't update.

Moneypoint is still open and still burning coal. We really are the dirty old man of Europe 🙄

    An Bord Pleanala happened

Or rather, it didn't happen 🤦🏻‍♂️

I'm all for planning laws and maintaining public spaces, but there seriously needs to be an override switch (and someone with the spine to use it)

I don't think ABP has anything to do with offshore windfarms. We need a few big ones of those.

For offshore yes, I think it's department of the marine, EPA, ESBN and a few others

One of the main complaints from the wind industry is that they have to make submissions to multiple agencies and if one fails they have to start again

There really should be a single applicant system which clears through all the various stakeholders

Very much looking forward to this. Hope it works with the older inverters as well.

They can work out the kinks in other countries so we're ready when we get dynamic pricing in Ireland.

At a glance: Here are the key points from Budget 2024 (rte.ie)

Looks like the €400 tax exemption limit is being raised to €800 according to RTE.

The tax disregard in respect of personal income received by households who sell residual electricity from micro-generation back to the national grid is being doubled

I know some out you out there have multiple people on your bills already but a welcome move for people like myself who can generate a decent FIT return.

Unkel right at this moment is trying to figure out how to get EVEN more battery storage - LOL.

My battery is more than big enough and I can't really fit more panels. But I would love having a huge increase in my MIC which is only 12kVA

Even just the increase from 12kVA to 16kVA would make me about €700-800 net profit per year. But currently costs €2068 from the ESB plus whatever internal upgrades you need to make. Smart move to upgrade you say? Sure is based on that. But I hope / expect the government will make the ESB do this upgrade for free in the next few years. The average family will use maybe double or treble the electricity in 10-15 years time compared to what they were using a few years ago (when almost nobody had heatpumps and EVs)

You know that link is for last year's budget?

Only thing I saw was the reduction in VAT for supply and fit of Heat Pumps to 9%.

Yeah - bloody RTE search engine put that at top. DOH!

That €2,068 makes my €450 Service Alteration look like very good value. Had to move an old disc meter point from inside to outside. Required new supply from a pole across the street, apparently it was not a properly insulated cable from the 50s era.

I'd say he is about 5 mins away from dismantling his Model S battery and connecting it to his house 🤣

Sure his house is already powered by a dead Tesla

Whats with all the EV hate these days? do people get a lovely warm fuzzy sense of belonging to society when they're paying all that fuel tax to the government?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2, Paid Member Posts: 13,392 ✭✭✭✭the_amazing_raisin

All the haters are foaming at the mouth because sales are down (a bit) and on their soap boxes shouting "I told you so"

Some folks definitely got bitten by the price spikes the past few years and the subsequent depreciation. While I'm sympathetic, I also think anyone going into that purchase without their eyes open to what might happen probably shouldn't be trusted with big financial decisions

Plenty of dealerships jumped on the bandwagon, paying over market prices for used EVs and then getting stuck with taking a big hit. They've some of the most vocal critics

Then you've the clickbait hunters who go looking for the most ridiculous stories on social media to publish as news without doing background checks. Pretty sure half of those post are made using AI by the people writing the articles. Who needs sources when you can make your own

In general, the market is down and somewhat a victim of its own success. Folks are a bit more wary of spending big money on an EV that might take a big hit on resale price later

Also with price drops constantly happening, I think some buyers are holding onto their cash thinking they can save later

There's a lot of talk of these cheaper models coming which will shake things up. I'm not so convinced myself, if you look at ICE sales the top sellers are always expensive crossovers, not budget banger hatchbacks

I think things will stabilise eventually, but when that happens I'm not so sure

It all went wrong when Elon dropped the M3 price by 10k, ripping the bottom out of the second-hand market in one fell swoop. Some would say that’s good for the long-term, but the pub stories, the Joe Duffy calls and whatnot will take a while to leave the collective memory.

Eventually though, hard-nosed financial logic will win over.

Anyone tell me why my battery charges at about 2.8Kw max overnight? Is a slower charge like this better for longevity, I assumed the 5Kw battery would pull ~ 5Kw for just under an hour to go from 10% to 100% but it pulls 2.8Kw for about 1hr 40 mins.

Just curious - system is working great - Livoltek with 5kw inverter

The only thing I can change in the settings is Max charge current and that is set to 100 Amps

  • Moderators, Home & Garden Moderators Posts: 7,320 Mod ✭✭✭✭graememk

You have a 5kWh battery (energy) not a 5kW battery (power)

The limit is the charge rate of the battery which looks like 2.8kW.

Ya, most off the shelf batteries will only charge at half their rated capacity, If you were to add another battery it would most likely give you the full inverter power.
