I don't think that you understand the UK media or the role Murdoch and his publications played in UK politics for the last 50 years or so. His backing was often critical for parties seeking government.

What's the biggest Pay TV service in the UK? Ever heard of Sky News? The newspapers still had influence in the 2000s. The Sun and the Times were owned by Murdoch. Then there's broadcast radio.

Sky News has never made a profit and was hardly watched in the UK with very low viewers. Sky News is also an impartial News organisation which is regulated.

The influence of Murdoch has always been vastly over estimated. And he certainly didn't wreck Britain. The 24 hour satellite TV revolution is something which so many Irish people embraced.

Not really surprising when you realise how incredibly corrupt this country is. Someone will be on to tell me now that Ireland is one of the least corrupt countries in the world.

Most forms of corruption in the west is now done through legal means.

You just have to question how Irish drama series are being funded.

The Second series of Obituary was given 4% (350k) of its total budget from the CnaM under the sound and vision fund, I'd love to know how a small Irish Drama is costing 8.7m (nearly 2m per hour). I'd love to see how that money is funneled through accounting processes.

Or just look that the building of some infrastructure in this country.

Just because you do something within the law doesn't necessary stop it from being corrupt.

Just seeing the piece on the resilience conference in Dubai. Ryan appears to be a strange choice of speaker - unless of course all the attendees have been the face of a national scandal, accused of underhand financial dealings, and lied to an Oireachtas Committee - I can’t imagine many of them found value in his ostrich-like approach to putting your head into the ground for a few weeks, deny everything in the face of all available evidence, deliver a vomit-inducing defence about your enormous salary not affecting your soul, then pretend you’ve never been happier exiled in London when you’ve snatched defeat from the jays of an improbable victory due to an inability to keep your bloody mouth shut and having to have the last word……

I don’t know. Maybe he got to sell a few copies of one of his books in the lobby after the gig to make it worth his while? At this rate we might see him at the Ideal Homes Exhibition selling unpulped copies of JFK in Ireland or whatever the book inserted his image into repeatedly was titled.
