You should just buy it at whatever price it is now, incredibly well polished game, they did everything right for the remake of an already great game

I've other games to complete, but I'll grab it as soon as it drops in price again. Probably black Friday.

Tell me about it 😂 I bought Ghost of Tsushima about 7 months ago haven't even opened it once yet

Oh I've a load of open world games I'm leaving aside for a long time. They require a huge time investment to get the most of of them. I'm searching out the shorter more "linear" games first.

Finished Lies of P. Great game but that final boss was an absolute bastard. I was a solid 2 hours attempting it before I beat it. The sequel hook of…

Dorothy has me very interested. Putting a dark twist on a fairytale is a common concept but repurposing it for Soulslike games is cool.

Yeah some of the bosses in Lies of P are absolute bastards. I struggled a good bit with the final boss, but the Green Monster of the Swamp gave me a worse time than nearly any other Soulsborne boss. I just could not get that fight locked in at all.

    As for the possible sequel…

It's absolute genius. The way they set it up like yer man at the end is going to be like Nick Fury collecting dark fairytale versions of the Avengers and it feels like such a stupidly hyped moment when you see the red slippers clicking, and then you remember…. it's f*cking Dorothy from The Wizard of Oz… how the f*ck did they get me so hyped up for that? 😁 Like I said, it's absolute genius.

One thing I really thought was a great idea in Lies of P though, was the icon on the fast travel menu that shows when someone wants to talk to you to progress their side stories. I'm playing through Dark Souls 3 at the minute and have already locked myself out of a bunch of NPCs/side stories because I'm not following a guide, and FromSoftware really went to town on making these ones as obscure as possible to follow. "Talk to this character, then fast travel here, then make sure you see this other character BUT DON'T TALK TO HIM OR HE'LL DIE, instead gesture by pointing at him then bring the thing to this other character but make sure you're embered or the NPC won't invade, then reach the bonfire BUT DON'T SIT AT IT, then interact with this NPC but refuse their offer for no reason, and if he's not there then that's because you didn't find the secret item behind 3 illusiory walls back in a previous area." Figuring these out yourself is like trying to put together an Ikea wardrobe but instead of an instruction manual they just give you all the pieces for more Ikea furniture mixed together.

Not that it matters or that I'm going for a particular ending or anything, but any time I have looked up where to go next or what to do with an NPC it's often turned out I missed something earlier or already did something in the wrong order and will have locked myself out of completing their side content.

Recent games like Remnant II and Lies of P give me hope that there is a future without bleak boring safe and formulaic Ubisoft like crap.

I think with the success of Elden Ring, a lot of companies will really try to push towards that type of game rather than the usual open-world model that Ubisoft really pushed. Unfortunately, I'd say Ubisoft will also try get their own version of Elden Ring made which will be so Ubisofted that it will just be pointless.

Imagine an Elden Ring with Timesaver Upgrade Packs, Hidden Secrets Maps and a Preorder Bonus Item that reveals illusory walls when you're near them.

While I’m enjoying Lies of P and its variations on the Souls formula, I’d struggle to call it wholly ‘original’ given large chunks of it are basically as close to Bloodborne as they can get without risking copyright lawsuits 😅

There is a case to be made that with everyone now chasing the souls bandwagon that character action games are now taking a back seat. Team Ninja are now all about souls games and we haven't had a DMC in years. Not played Stellar Blade but it kind of looks quite basic (and that's not to even touch on the wanton goonerism in that game).

It won't make it out of the pitch meeting. Like, what do you mean there's no story mode, and not even a difficulty setting? What do you mean hard but rewarding? We're not doing that.

Have 150 set aside for a headset for ps5, stuck between inzone H5 or pulse elite? What should I get?

I'd say if they looked at Elden Ring's budget v sales and that of most of their recent games, it'd change minds sharpish. Though as with when they did Immortals: Fenyx Rising, their take on a Zelda BOTW game, they'll strip it for parts to sell off separately as mtxs and DLCs and ruin what they were trying to emulate (I enjoyed Immortals FR, but there was definitely a Ubisoftness to it that I had to try block out and ignore).

Forgot about it and not played it. I really need to rectify that!

Need to get around to it too. Played the first hour or so on Steamdeck but it just felt slightly off and I wasn't able to maintain any sort of rhythm (story of my life). Bought again on PS5 but haven't gotten round to it.

Still might not get to it for a while, because I've decided once I'm finished Dark Souls 3 I'm going to finally give Dark Souls 1 a try. Plus when the PS5 Pro comes I'm going to replay Demon's Souls on it. Actually just typing this I've realised this will have meant I'll have played DeS, DS1, DS3, Bloodborne and Elden Ring all within this year (well, even within the last 6 months of the year). **** do I have to do DS2 now as well?

They need to go back to making games people want to play, they need to make them fun and appealing, but they are … maidenless :) I don't think they have in their current leadership people capable of learning the right lessons from looking at successful games.

I struggle to think of any non-competitive multiplayer game that benefits from high refresh rate and low input latency than HiFi Rush does.

Could not deal with the Steam Deck version after 144 FPS on PC, and I usually think 60 is completely sufficient for any game.

I know for sure I can only partially blame the SD performance, because I had the same issue with Metal Hellsinger on PS5 where I could just not stay in sync with the beat or once I'm knocked out of it I struggle to get back in it, but I think Hi-Fi Rush is a game that I'd try more to just keep going and get better at than with Metal Hellsinger. Definitely feels like I'm going to need to play PS5 or full PC for it though.

Twitch shooters like Doom and Doom Eternal are better examples. In HiFi Rush the cue in in the music beat, if you get the click going in your head you can play it with your eyes closed :)

Oh sorry, I would actually say Neon White was transformed too when I switched from SD to full high frame rate capable PC - but mouse and keyboard was the real game changer there, which would apply to any twitchy first person game (single player or otherwise) that benefits from increased responsiveness.

Get yourself a pair of Steelseries Arctic 7+ or the newer Novas.

I just pre ordered the ps5 pro with the disc drive and vertical stand my budget is 150 no more unfortunately

DS2 is weaker than the rest but a weak souls game is still better than the majority of other games. Its only really weak in level and some boss designs. The combat is great and the combat options I'd say are ahead of all other dark souls games. Also the DLC areas are absolutely peak dark souls and are some of From's best work.

Nova 5 are €135 on Amazon at the minute. The nova 7 are around €180. Keep an eye on them on Prime Day and I'd be shocked if they're not reduced more.

I'll see if I'm burned out on the games by then. Probably not helping by playing them in a f*cked up order. I'm sure I'll probably get around to it eventually, especially if I do DS1 which will mean DS2 will be the only one I won't have played.

  • Moderators, Category Moderators, Computer Games Moderators Posts: 54,109 CMod ✭✭✭✭Retr0gamer

Just don't getting into that hardcore From Software stuff like me.

I'm currently freebasing the PS1 armored core and kings field games and loving them.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2, Paid Member Posts: 36,669 ✭✭✭✭Penn

I doubt I will. One of the things that was putting me off about playing DS1 was I've seen videos and the game looks so outdated compared to Bloodborne onwards (even the Remastered version). I doubt I'll start going back to PS1-era FromSoftware games.

Not really surprising given the prices. I wonder will we see a few discounts early next year?

Certainly may not sell out, but there'll be no discount any time in the first year at least. It's being sold as a premium item and it's likely Sony won't be losing any or much money on each unit, so no need to drop the price so long as gamers as a whole are still playing within the PS5 ecosystem.
