As someone who only played DS1 for the first time in last 12 months, I loved it. The fast travel is a fair criticism but I did enjoy the slower pace. The map is beautiful. Spending hours going down a rabbit hole and popping out another place that links to a previous area. Great stuff

The least one I liked was Dark Souls 3 which just felt like a poor man’s Elden Ring., but again a great game in its own right

With respect PM, given the number and types of games that you repeatedly talk about not liking because they don't suit your particular tastes and wants, or the likes of the Switch where you talk about how it doesn't suit you specifically because it's not a home console 4k60fps machine etc, chances are most discussion on this thread is likely to be about things you don't like.

Plenty of long discussions happen here and the news thread about stuff I have no interest in, and it's made even worse with the state of Boards opening blank pages lately. But it's fine. Post about something you do want to discuss, or ignore the thread for a while or something. Don't worry about it.

That Until Dawn remaster is doing the thing again where they put the camera up super close and on their shoulder. A bit of a strange decision tho in a game that's emulating a genre of cinema.

You know what, if they invented a time machine I think I would go back and delete RE4 from capcom's source control. Maybe it's the price to pay for every game having the OTS camera now. Bring back weird camera angles.

Can't blame Capcom because lesser devs don't understand how to use camera placement or understand framing in their games.

So apparently Metaphor: ReFantazio is all about tolerance and accepting differences in people and culture and it's driving the anti-woke right wing nutters absolutely crazy.

    Good.

Have some games that I'm not feeling any love for continuing or starting ... gonna trade them in for cash in CEX and get Astro Bot. And maybe the new Zelda game; and maybe Prince of Persia: The Lost crown.

I just feel Soulslikes deserve their own thread at this stage. I feel like it's more than a few posts, and quite often diverges into detail rather than generally, but never mind me so. Funny you mention the Switch as I was gonna start a new thread on my Switch experience these last few days as its gonna ruffle a lot of feathers most likely, but once I'm at a pc ill let rip in here so.

I don't think that's a bad suggestion tbh, given how much modern action games are getting generalised into these Souls-like games. In some regards I'd say it's become bigger than JRPGs (which, I know technically speaking many Souls games are JRPG by their country of origin), which also seem to have a general topic. It's definitely one of those genres I've went from really liking to getting a bit fed up with. Though I don't click on here nearly enough to notice if it's dominating a particular thread.

Bit sensationalist here. First the majority of the lawsuits mentioned are legit copyright infringement. Doesn't excuse the actual bully lawsuits that are also listed. Secondly, bit of goldfish memory going on as Nintendo have always been aggressively litigious. This is hardly new.

Ha, they must have not read about what they did to Gary Bowser…

Veneer of kindness from a multibillion dollar corporation that's currently taking 30% of some poor guys paycheque, FFS.

That was a pretty **** one as well. It's insane the punishments handed out for copyright infringement compared to crimes where a human is hurt. I'd have considered his punishment cruel and unusual as well.

Is that extra blank page glitch still going for people?

Has the great ‘psst if you order from Smyths you’ll get your game a day early 👀’ tradition come to an end?

Astro Bot arrived on the day, and no sign of Metaphor ReFantazio dispatching ahead of time either. Still very reliable and often a good tenner cheaper than buying digitally, mind you, but maybe can’t guarantee getting it a day early like you used to.

I wouldn't be surprised if they got into trouble giving them out a day early. Who knows like. Especially when you are dealing with companies like Nintendo as you just read in the last few comments. MS and Sony would be the same though so can't just say Nintendo.

Playing through Arctic Eggs, a strange, funny and vaguely cursed short-form* physics game about cooking bizarre meals for weirdos in a dystopian Arctic enclave.

The double puffer fish is one of the most demanding, infuriating bosses of the year.

*it's very short, but I find it deeply stressful to play for more than 20-30 mins at a time

Astro Bot doing the shimmy-through-cave-crevice/loading-screen gimmick during their God of War level gave me a wry smile. Cheeky.

So nintendo's new motion sensing clock's motion sensing functions won't work correctly if there's more than one person in the bed.

Which probably isn't an issue if you have a Nintendo motions sensing alarm clock in your bedroom.

    Hey!

    True but…. Hey!

On another note, the Tomb Raider series was released on Netflix today. Currently sitting at 63 on metacritic. I'll watch this weekend, maybe.

Man, never seen a book tour quite as comprehensive as Jason Schreier’s for Play Nice. He seems to have been on almost every gaming podcast and website at least once! My feeds have been all Jason and all Blizzard for the last two or three weeks 😅

I did start listening to the audiobook in the past few days though, and as usual it’s a thoroughly engaging listen / read. Definitely makes sense to have one long form story after his chapter by chapter approach in the earlier books. Only an hour or so in and up to StarCraft already, so a lot of the colourful bits yet to come (though already kinda infuriating listening to how the sudden wealth in those early years was distributed).

Masahiro Sakurai is wrapping up his YouTube series shortly, but for now he has this lovely little tribute up to Satoru Iwata (who remains one of the only good video game executives).

Horray the annoying page bug seems to be fixed

The hardest working man in videogames. Kind of glad he is taking it easy as he was working himself into an early grave. This videogames series has been incredible. It's kind of essential to anyone doing game design, some of the stuff there I wish I knew before I started (never think your game is crap until after you add sound effects. It's honestly insane how much sound affects stuff like game feel). This series and the Iwata asks series are the closest we have gotten to the inner workings of Nintendo.

Started into the Witcher 3 last night. The next gen update is nice and smooth in performance mode. I've just read they're are options to show HUD elements only when Witcher sense is activated and also automatically switch from over the should view to wide view for combat. Sounds much better for immersion, will try that later. Also, you can now pat the horse. This is my third time to start it, but it's definitely feeling better now. Will tip away at it over the winter.

Waypoint / Remap’s signature sign off has always been ‘**** capitalism, go home’… and rarely has that been more apt than the ghouls at what remains of Vice trying to resurrect Waypoint barely a year after they unceremoniously fired the team there and as of yet have failed to pay the owed severance pay to some of them.

Thankfully classic Waypoint very much lives on at Remap, as opposed to the zombified corpse that is Vice Media.

Would just like to say that UFO50 is the bargain of the year and an embarrassment of riches.

New game Neva is getting fantastic reviews. Have to say that it looks and sounds staggeringly beautiful. Looking forward to this one.
