    Hi All,

I'd be grateful for some feedback on this quote. It's the first I've received so not sure if it's competitive.

Flat roof - two storey, No grant as house is a new build. House has air to water heat pump, MVHR.

I work from home too, so probably won't go with a battery.

    8.7kW Solar system

    20x LONGi Solar Hi-MO 6 Scientists LR5-54HTH-435M (435W)

    Huawei SUN2000-5KTL-L1 (5.5kW)

    Total
    €10,500.00

Folks - got a few quotes. Very new, the idea is to get everything on Home assistant some time in the future. Let me know what you think. The two best ones (in my view):

    1. 1 x BHF-S10 (10.2 Kwh Livoltek battery)
    2. 1 x Hyper-5000 (Livoltek 5kw inverter)
    3. 12 x 435 Watt Panels (JKM435N-54HL4)

All for 10.5K b4 grant (not entitled to grant). Professional company.

    1. 1x Solis Inverter 5kw Hybrid
    2. 12x 435 Watt Jinko panels
    3. 1x LifePo4 battery - self made, 16Kw capacity

9.7k. Not a company but someone that does DIY projects.

What are your thoughts? I'm very confused. I plan on using the batteries to charge during the night time ev rates and use that in the daytime. Both working from home.

I mean, I did that, and it seems both of these are 'fantastic quotes'. The only confusion for me is would I want the DIY'd battery with a DIY guy to set things up for me or would I go for a company. Any experiences or suggestions there? 16Kwh battery sub 10k is insane.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 9,560 ✭✭✭con747

It would all depend on how hands on you want to be with a diy battery, some go in and work perfectly. Others can need tinkering with on an ongoing basis if anything goes wrong. there's a thread here that could guide you if something goes wrong but that's if you feel confident going that route.

The branded battery should be just plug in and forget for years. A lot here have bought the branded batteries and then built their own over time and sold on the branded without really any loss after a year or two.

Hi, what do you mean "built their own over time"?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 10,066 ✭✭✭✭CoBo55

Built their own battery storage system over time I presume (Ali express etc.)and then sold off the branded battery.

As Cobo said. A thread on it here. https://www.boards.ie/discussion/2058246061/10kwh-lifepo4-diy-battery-addition-here-is-my-write-up#latest

can I also ask (and this might be a stupid question) but why are the batteries quoted as kW instead of kWh?!

  • Moderators, Home & Garden Moderators Posts: 7,021 Mod ✭✭✭✭graememk

It should be in kWh, Most people don't notice.

I've had 2 quotes over the last week for essentially the same system, i.e.

    18 Panels

    5kWh Duracell battery

    Solis inverter

    Eddi water system

One quote came in at €10000 net of grant and the other came in at €15000 net.

Other than the panel manufacturer, there appears to be no difference in the system so I have to ask why the huge price discrepancy? Has anyone here had a similar system installed and if so which price is more realistic?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 144 ✭✭reggie3434

10k is decent for 8kw system, battery and eddi

it is mad the difference in quotes and only reason I can see is greed/ chancing arm on high costs. (Were good and that’s why we charge more nonsense/ were half owned by sse)

    Hi all,

Opinions on this quote if anyone can help, my first quote but seems good to me at that price?

6.16 Kw system – Price after grant €6,400.

Estimated output 4,308 kWh (our annual usage is 3,300 kWh but will increase and is spread out throughout the day)

Panels to be split 8 south ish facing and 6 at the back of the house (no shading either side) and room for more.

    Breakdown:

    Jinko 440w panels x 14

    Solis String Inverter x 1

ThinkWe 4 Pole (2-string) Fire Safety Switch

Eastron SDM120A Single Phase Energy Meter x 1

    ESDEC Roof Mounting System

    BER included

    Optional extras:

Eddi hot water diverter €750 – won't be going with this.

5kW Battery €2200 – probably will need a battery added on to the quote or perhaps use the money towards more panels?

Option to increase or reduce panels at €300 – would ye recommend asking on the day and trying to get a better price if they happened to have any with them?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,686 ✭✭✭bullit_dodger

Good price that. I have an Eddi and personally I'd buy one again, but financially no sense in buying one - so I'd agree with you in not going for one. (My liking isn't fiscally based)

I would defo try to max out your roof with another 2 or 4 panels if you can get/afford them. Over the years here, there has to the best of my knowledge been ZERO people who complained "I wish I had gotten less panels" - but plenty (plenty) people who've said I wish I'd gotten more. Naturally you want to max out your south roof first and then put them on the north.

Basically you should try as much as you can to fill your roof with panels and go to 80-90% of the limit of the inverter. (you don't want to be RIGHT at the limit - but give a 10% buffer or so)

Thanks for the advice, was tempted to get the eddie but i've an old type hot water tank in need of replacing so might tack it on as part of the next upgrade. sales man didnt seem too gone on the eddie himself, said they were responcible for most of the probelms he's seen in the past burning out parts of the cylinder on older set ups like mine.

Yeah, the 10K quote is kind of what I expected. You're bang on with your sales pitch😂 I'm going to get one more price and take it from there.

    Hi.

Good quote. Can you let me know what company. Looking into solar. Mad quotes.

    Thank you.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 17 Velcropants

Hey all, looking into solar and went through a few quotes. The current one is as follows:

    - 5.72 kwh system (13 JA panels 440w) on a all 3 sides of a S/E/W semi-d hipped roof.

    - 8x optimsters

    - Duracell dura-i 5kw inverter

    - 10kwh battery (2x dura5)

    - Duracell ev charger (apparently equivalent to zappi but uses duracell app)

    - house grounding rod and wire change/upgrade (Some wiring is not the correct size)

    - Changeover switch

    - BER assessment

Solar system minus batteries and extras is 8850 (before grant)

Total cost before grant 14,350 (includes extras described above)

    After grant 11,950

I am considering maybe getting an extra battery which are about 1.5k to addon during install.

Looking for 50% up front. I'll have to claim the grant back.

Aware we have some extras on this quote inclusing BER, chnageover and some electrical fixes, but how would a setup like that look in general?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 9,560 ✭✭✭con747

Looks good especially with the extra's they are doing.

Thanks. A little weary of the duracell setup as its quite new but I've heard some good things. Mulling it over at the moment as it is a big up front cost….and at the same time considering an extra battery!

Duracell is just a pure drive battery, they rebranded recently

Duracell are rebranded Puredrive batteries AFAIK and the inverter seems to get good reviews.
