Santino signs back with Foyt for next season on a new multi-year deal, him and Malukas are going to be a seriously exciting pairing in those Foyt cars with Team Penske's fingerprints now showing all over their engineering

I'm going to cancel my NOW TV after the weekend. Anyone hazard a guess as to where we'll see Indycar nest season (if at all)?

    Seven Worlds will Collide

I would lean towards rights staying on Sky but with the new US rights deal Fox Corporation are independent of all the UK pay TV players so Indycar have free reign to choose whom they award the UK rights unlike in 2019 when NBC Universal/Comcast took over full US Indycar rights which then saw the UK rights immediately move to Sky Sports/Comcast. Indycar ratings reportedly have been decent on Sky especially with the Indy 500 following on from the Monaco GP though probably not large enough to warrant turning down an attractive bid if came from TNT Sports. if Premier Sports still have NASCAR rights next season then there isn't a chance Indycar would move there

Indycar's deal with Sky Sports in other European markets like Germany and Italy also expire this season so it may be easier for Indycar to continue with one player across the largest European markets

Ooh interesting…Palou (and McLaughlin and Rossi) hit with a nine place grid penalty

    Seven Worlds will Collide

IndyNXT race had James Roe start 9th and finished 4th. Great season finisher for him.

Johnathan Browne started in 14th and finished 12th.

So who will take the championship in Indycar do you think?

Will Power has to pit due to his lap belt coming undone.... what a disaster

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,719 ✭✭✭Charlie-Bravo

So it looks like Alex Palou for the championship provided he finishes ahead of Will Power who has a tough task of getting back on the lead lap.

Just looking at the points scoring system. A few drivers in contention. Will see how this shakes out.

ALEX PALOU IS THE 2024 NTT INDYCAR SERIES CHAMPION

Countdown to next season starts today, 168 days to go until the 2025 Firestone Grand Prix of St. Petersburg…

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,880 ✭✭✭Infoanon

168 days......will the much talked about winter series ever launch?

Deserved champion in Alex Palou , and an unexpected runner up , Colton Herta - also gaining 30 Super licence points....

So much for the Penske oval advantage- Mclaughlin and Newgarden providing particularly close racing today.

Off season driver movements aside ,indycar goes silent now for 24 weeks, (Pato will be in Practice 1 in Mexico for Mclaren), it's going to be a long winter......

Still buzzing after that, how will I sleep? Colton’s pass on Robb and Pato was amazing, so close to it all going pear shaped. He deserves more than 30 superlicense points for that!

It still miffs a lot of us that Indy gets less SL points than F2, or at least that our championship top end rewards fall off so quickly compared to F2/F3.

Heck even FE and WEC Hypercar are better than Indy in some places…

On the plus side, had he received his super license for coming third in 2020, he probably would have been in Baku yesterday and we wouldn’t have seen that move.

I think the ship is sailing out for Colton's F1 ambitions his chances now realistically are reliant on Andretti's protracted efforts to enter F1 eventually becoming successful and the clock is ticking out on that ever happening

I would love to see Palou get a F1 shot, aside from not winning an Indy 500 he has nothing else to prove now winning 3 Indycar championships in 4 seasons in the most competitive fields seen since the 90s but I also would fear for F1 career longevity if he ended up driving an awful Sauber car next season

PREMA have (finally) confirmed Callum Ilott for next year.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,880 ✭✭✭Infoanon

    Not the expected off season news you might expect;

The FBI 'visited Rahal Letterman Lanigan (RLL) yesterday Sept 18th to search their IT equipment for Intellectual Properties that may have been transferred from Andretti.

Allegedly Andretti had a similar visit a few weeks ago.

In racing news ,Ganassi have commenced reducing staff numbers as they reduce from 5 to 3 entries in preparation for the charter system. Foyt could be the destination for a number of the racing staff.

Simpson in the #8 is due to be announced ASAP, Armstrong to #66 (Mayer Shank) is strongly rumoured leaving Linus Lindquist looking for a drive despite a strong end to his rookie season.

Logan Sergeant and Valterri Bottas are not being mentioned as potential drivers in '25.

FBI raids on RLL just 3 days after the season ending was certainly not one of my offseason predictions

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,816 ✭✭✭TheChrisD

Another place that some of the Ganassi staff will go is to the team's planned pair of NXT entries next year.

Veekay is gone from ECR they informed him they are not renewing him, no confirmation on Rasmussen who I think will be re-signed

I can only envisage ECR have signed someone who might be considered an upgrade on Veekay like Rossi or they have resorted to the desperation of Sting Ray's sponsorship dollars? I'm sure Veekay will land somewhere still 7 other mid-field to rear-field seats available RLL the pick of the availability though their horrendous oval performances would scare some drivers off

Logan Sargent is to test in Indycar for Meyer Shank racing in November. I hope he does well. F1 can chew you up and spit you out.

The charter system has been confirmed and implemented, currently limited to 25 charters until at least 2031:

Shame MSR are already full though, with Felix in the 60 and Armstrong in the 66 next year.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,880 ✭✭✭Infoanon

The 25 charters are probably unlikely to increase or decrease, they are the property of Penske Entertainment.

What is likely to change is the number of cars on race day , currently a maximum of 27(helpfully 25 Charters + 2 Prema entries) cars on race day (excl Indy) , this is likely to reduce to 25 over the years.

Indy will be 33 entries with no guarantees for the charter teams.

New investor at ECR , Rossi to be announced within the next few hours according to reports (and a street race in Dallas ??)

ECR have confirmed Rossi and Rasmussen both full season for next year.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,046 ✭✭✭Brian CivilEng

As a Rossi fan, not sure how to feel about that. At least I don't have to feel dirty cheering on someone driving a McLaren anymore (although I wish Pato well).

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,816 ✭✭✭TheChrisD

In NXT news, both Josh Pierson and Myles Rowe confirmed for another full season next year; but this time Myles and the Force Indy team will be run by Abel Motorsports rather than HMD.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,163 ✭✭✭Ohmeha

ECR is the best of a bad bunch of options available he has proven ability that could help turn them around though I'm sure he is taking a hit on what would have been a seven figure salary. Rossi is a reminder in that series you can go from a regular race winner/title contender to a mid-pack drive relatively quickly, being teammates to Colton/Pato and being a level behind both of them is the reason is where he is now for 2025

This dramatic year in Indycar goes up another level as Michael Andretti is 'relinquishing' his ownership stake at Andretti Global. Reckon the F1 attempt has goosed him financially so he had to hand it to Towriss?

Texas is back in 2026! But it's not what you think...

At least the early-season void gets filled a bit...
