Ah that makes sense, thank you. It was the missing letter in my Dublin Bus lexicon.

And there's also short working 11 inter-peak variant (11b) planned, going between Parkwest Street-Sussex Road

The latest information that I've read over the summer is that DLRCC who are implementing the project known as ''Living Streets Blackrock'' are going to switch the buses away from the bus terminus near Blackrock DART Station to 2 brand new layover termini around Blackrock itself. They are saying that 2 of the remaining bus routes from the Dart Station will be relocated outside the front entrance of Starbucks Coffee Shop on the main street. That would be the S6 & L26. The new terminus outside Starbucks only fits a maximum of 2 buses at one time.

There will be another smaller layover bus terminus to be located at the 7a bus stop on Carysfort Avenue. I am not sure whether either the 114 & maybe the Executive Express bus route from Central Park in Leopardstown would have to relocate to it's new Blackrock terminus in Carysfort Avenue in the near future.

The main street in Blackrock is also meant to repaved with newer material around large parts of the Main Street as well which includes the Blackrock library, The Central Park takeaway & restaurant and the newer pub known as The Blackrock. I have no idea how that part of the project is going to pan out once it gets underway in the near future. The council have said that they are going to put the project out to tender from October of this year.

There is also the likelihood that the bus routes like the 7 & 7a may have to be re-routed along the bypass in the near future.

    Both will be GAI operated.

I don't know about the location of the Blackrock terminus for the L26.

That's insanity I thought the idea of Bus Connects was to provide connectivity between bus, rail and Luas.

As the 84/A will no longer exist after November, my guess is that the L26 will be taking its place - especially since it'll be covering a small part of the current 84/A route. The DART station would be dangerously overcrowded, especially since the 114 is often parked there for almost an hour between trips.

where was the N3 due to go? Was that Raheny to the airport?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,049 ✭✭✭thomasj

I think theyre talking about the N3 motorway , The B spine

Probably wouldn't happen but I'd love if the N6 would terminate in Broombridge instead of Finglas village. If it could go through Finglas South instead, we end up with a viable route for parts of Finglas that couldn't use the 40e.

Sounds like the plan is to pedestrianise more of Blackrock villlage though?

    The N8 is Blanchardstown-Airport-Clongriffin.

It’s at the end unfortunately as it was a late addition, and resources (drivers, buses and funding) are dictating that it’s not going to happen any sooner.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 18,792 ✭✭✭✭LXFlyer

I think that would end up with too many buses at Broombridge than the terminus could handle.

There will be two routes terminating there as it is.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,006 ✭✭✭Van.Bosch

thanks - could have sworn there was a seperate bus to do clontarf to the airport but it was ages ago.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,259 ✭✭✭Daith

Maybe. It wouldn't even have to terminate there though, maybe even go down the N2 dual carriageway to Broombridge and back to Finglas village.

Though Broombridge is a hub, it wouldn't be the worse thing to see if the site could be reviewed to allow more buses to terminate there or close by.

    Not as part of BusConnects.

There was talk of a commercial service before, but that seems to have died after Covid.

There can be up to three buses parked up at Finglas for the N6 at any one time. That level of frequency on a route needs a lot of space for buses laying over between trips at either end.

There is only room for two buses at the Broombridge terminus and the other two routes will need that. I don’t see that being an option.

The old 22/22a terminus at Ventry Park might be an option, but given the absence of buses terminating there for so many years, I doubt that the local residents would be very enthusiastic about a new bus terminus now.

Bear in mind that any extension is going to mean a requirement for additional buses and additional drivers, the lack of the latter is the main reason for the delays in the network rollout. It would also need additional funding. The longer the extension, the more buses, drivers and funding that you need of course.

I can’t see it happening before the rest of the network is rolled out, if I’m honest.

I can't see it happening regardless, but I still think it would be a useful route to connect a decent size area to Broombridge until the Luas is extended. The thread is still BusConnects after all :)

In terms of the terminus, Eden Quay is a massive disaster with buses not able to actually pull in properly and let people off at peak times, and I doubt Broombridge would be as bad that. It might just need the parking for the Luas staff to be reduced a bit!

Afaik, the long term goal is to pedestrianise the bit around the dart station & seafront, which would necessitate the closure of the bus terminus there. There's no plans as of now to fully pedestrianised the main street, but the current living streets arrangement will be done up with more permanent materials.

Afaik only one route (L62) will terminate at Broombridge. Great idea to extend N6 from Finglas while we wait for the Luas to be delivered.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,049 ✭✭✭thomasj

Hasn't the L89 been recently announced to be extending to Broombridge?

Ah, yes the L89 is going to Broombridge so no need for the N6! And pretty easy swap too if the services aligned

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 20 transfer90

Oh didn't know that. Yes, a link from Finglas to Broombridge albeit only once an hour at best.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,259 ✭✭✭Daith

Yeah, the 40e is only every 30 mins too. I just think having Luas and Rail services (a rare combination outside the city centre) close by to Finglas, it would be ideal for more public transport links.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,270 ✭✭✭BlueSkyDreams

Thanks. Sounds like the buses will run through the main street, but the main street will see an improvement in the public realm.

Bus terminus will be moved from outside the DART station to facilitate pedestrianisation, but moved to where, I do not know.

I wonder if there would be any chance of opening up a path somewhere along the following lines, and having the bus stop on the main street where it starts:

The replacement for the 40e, the L62, will be every 15 mins at peak and every 30 mins during the off-peak.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 20 transfer90

That's good. A similarly frequent service from Charlestown SC and Finglas village would be very useful and the sooner the better.

Ref the N2 going over the bridge at Broombridge I am surprised it will not ground in the middle - thats a very steep curve on that bridge https://www.google.ie/maps/@53.3726513,-6.2999464,3a,75y,15.34h,76.87t/data=!3m6!1e1!3m4!1s7pt58Cevz-HF1fcwSPBl9Q!2e0!7i16384!8i8192?coh=205409&entry=ttu&g_ep=EgoyMDI0MDkxOC4xIKXMDSoASAFQAw%3D%3D

Its also Public transport only southbound which is widely abused. Also the Ballyboggan road has very steep continuous speed bumps which will need fixing - no sign of that as yet

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,259 ✭✭✭Daith

Wasn't the bridge altered just to suit pubic transport though? Also the 40e bus drivers use that bridge sometimes and they seem fine.

Is the N2 using a different type of bus?

They really could do with a yellow junction box or some sort of clearway for the entrance to Broombridge. Sometimes the 40e ends up on the pavement because the drive can't turn correctly with the cars queuing to go north over the bridge.

Still no confirmed date for the full W6 route I was hoping they'd bunch it with the N2 but the works in Hazelhatch have only just about finished now. Apparently there won't be any new stops between the existing ones in the train station and Newcastle
