Mystery continue 😀 I'll probably give them a chance in a few months again. Hopefully they give a count down before the €15 for life introductory offer ends.

I've noticed they no longer offer eSIM on the website, hopefully they bring that back at some stage.

Got my SIM yesterday evening, activated it, and the port went through this morning. I can confirm that the MNC is 25, not 01, like Vodafone and An Post Mobile, and as a result I can't get 5G, only get LTE on my Pixel 7. Here's hoping Sky will be more proactive with Google to get on their PLMN than other 5G MVNOs, specifically Liffey Telecom (48 and Tesco Mobile, MNC 11) and Lycamobile (MNC 13). I still think the majority of the blame for this is on Google but the issue can only be dealt with by the carriers.

Also, given that I had not received my SIM until yesterday, I went back into the same Sky store from where I placed the order and asked for an eSIM and they said they're not doing them right now. Seems conflicting, since some are getting eSIMs while others are being told that they're not available currently? Anyway, they scheduled a replacement SIM, but I think the one that got to me yesterday was the original.

The activation process was a bit crap. I couldn't do it from the app because of an error before even loading the form, but they text me a link as soon as I put the SIM in with a web link to do it, so I did that and after filling in the form, including the activation code, I got an error. There was a Try Again button and I hit that, and thankfully it worked. I came from An Post Mobile, which I had ported to a month before from 48.

The APN settings weren't auto-configured either. I got a text saying that they couldn't do it. The only thing I had to do was edit the APN field and put in mobile.sky, save, and I was connected to LTE immediately after.

Another thing is I don't see the options for VoLTE or Wi-Fi Calling in the SIM settings, where they usually are on supported SIMs. Anyone else either have or don't have one or both of these options?

ok so been on to sky support via phone “there are some issues with the new network” OTP codes is known issue and there working to sort it, I also have no settings in Mobile Data ie APN settings another known issue, it’s been passed to the back end team and hopefully you’ll hear more soon.

@martin_g you can request the APN settings for your phone from your Sky account.

    My Sky
    Product Settings
    Mobile
    Manage
    Network and controls
Request network settings (scroll down to find this option)

yes no biebiebie I tried this and Sky tried numerous times it did work but settings fields are all still blank 😂

@kilsmum I'm very happy with speeds and coverage .

However it all depends on your location, your local masts, the number of customers using that mast, the areas you travel to/through, etc.

You could always check the coverage map for a general idea.

What you could do though is to order the SIM but not port. Try the service when you receive the SIM. You have 14 days cooling off so can cancel if needs be. And then if staying with Sky just port your number when/if you're happy.

Just fill the APN field with mobile.sky and you can leave the rest unmodified and you'll be able to get data. The MCC and MNC fields are filled in already, along with other pertinent options being set.

no the whole page is blank that’s what makes no sense should be something in some of the fields and I did try what you mentioned above but no joy

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,088 ✭✭✭biebiebie

@DECEiFER I also don't see voLTE or WiFi calling options...I did have these on Three though.

Are they supposed to be available on Sky?

    Btw I'm using a Samsung.

yes Wi-Fi calling should be available . Another issue I am having is logging into my sky account via webpage is failing giving dns issues but even if I change the dns on iPhone it’s still not working even tried changing browsers and dns numerous times am stumped. As all other websites work with no issues.

@DECEiFER to activate WiFi Calling and 4G Calling on your Pixel, you need to download two apps.

    1. Shizuku

    2. Pixel IMS

These two apps will allow you to unhide the settings which control both. Works perfectly on my Pixel 9 Pro Fold once I did this.

Try creating an APN if you don't have one and just leave everything at default and fill in as follows:
    Name: <anything-you-want>
    APN: mobile.sky
    Username: <blank>
    Password: <blank>
    MCC: 272
    MNC: 25
    APN Type: Default

Cheers Deceifer the settings you supplied only match one line in the Apn settings I have on my iPhone. Appreciate the response. So only could fill in Apn name. Thanks anyways

Not too familiar with iPhone's APN settings, but yeah, just try what vapourer suggested above.

That worked beautifully! I suspect this is another consequence of the Sky PLMN not being whitelisted on Pixels.

EDIT: Perhaps it's not a PLMN issue as others have said it's an ongoing issue with Sky at the moment. Also, can't be sure if using the above method to reveal the settings makes a lick of difference but revealed they are!

Update for VoLTE / WiFi calling.

    Support just informed me...

...I just received confirmation from the relevant team. It appears there is an ongoing issue affecting this feature, so there’s no need to contact our voice team separately. They are already aware of the situation and working on resolving it.

Please bear with us a little longer while the team addresses the issue. We’ll ensure it gets sorted out as quickly as possible.

So add that one to the list!!

Unlike the 2FA verification code issue(*), I can wait and ride this one out.

(*) 2FA issue fixed for me after porting, but still an ongoing issue as far as I'm aware.

it’s a absolute nightmare for me can’t get into credit union, bank, nothing 🤬 just informed them I’ll be binning the contract tomorrow if not sorted, it’s been a week or more since they started. It’s not like this hasn’t been done before 😢

Just ordered a SIM so hopefully I get it within a week. Will report back any porting issues etc.

Surprisingly my PTSB app didn't lock me out for 24 hours after the SIM change. This is what normally happens. But on this occasion I was able to sign in just fine. I haven't had any 2FA codes sent to me by text in the last day, so I can't comment on that aspect at this time.

yeah sometimes it does and doesn’t, might do when you need to authorise a payment 😂 I’ll have the same luck.

I would say, Sky Mobile Ireland will be a runner.

They have some start-up issues, but I can honestly say they are working really hard to get things resolved.

I now have my eSim up and running (before they pulled the option again), VF port worked eventually, can get iMessages and 2FA, and roaming works.

Just next time, I won't switch first week when a new network launches 🤣

@Purplej have you been abroad already (roaming works) with Sky? How did you find it?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 500 ✭✭✭jusvi2001

    anyone on €10 plan?

i am thinking of porting my sons number to sky. 10GB would be enough but wanna confirm calls and text are included.

They don’t stock iPhones. Does anyone know how long the €15 for life run until?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 217 ✭✭rhinosaurious

I was abroad in Europe already too, worked seamlessly ! Connected automatically when I landed and worked great. Latched onto 5G and I had unlimited data, calls and texts.

Anybody have any idea when the eSim option will be available again? I got my SIM then other day but I seen there was an option to covert to and eSim within the sky app, I tried to set it up, got a QR code and everything, but no confirmation code within the email they sent me to activate. I was then told by support that they have removed it (Why was I given an option in the app in the first place?) and now my physical SIM is deactivated. I couldn't get the data or texts to to work with the physical SIM. Not a great start.....

you can sign to the service with an eSIM over the phone

I'm with gomo, don't travel much so from what I can see, the only benefit in switching would be if the Vodafone network locally is stronger than eir, right? I'm getting an easy 150Mb right now so I'm all good really. Right?
