GOMO I had nothing but good experiences with them. Just unfortunate my new phone is e-sim only so I had to port out. But would deffo return if they introduce it

Thanks for the heads up - I hopefully will get back to GOMO if they introduce the eSIM.

Can you receive SMS to allow you to port out ? That’s what stopped me from porting my main number.

I ported in an old 083 number I wasn’t using but was able to receive SMS so couldn’t port it out.

Yep, just tested it, I got the verification code from Vodafone to port back out. The mobile account number is found in the MySky app as well.

Visual voicemail and live voicemail are both working for me on Sky, iOS 18.

Live voicemail comes with iOS 18 regardless of carrier I believe. Visual voicemail is dependent on your carrier.

I believe Sky are the first to now implement Visual Voicemail in Ireland? Works great.

How can you tell it's Visual Voicemail and not just Live Voicemail? Where can you see that? Want to check on my parents phone's later.

According to Apple's website they would both appear in the same tab and "If Visual Voicemail is turned on, voicemails captured by your network provider also appear in the Voicemail tab. If your iPhone is turned off or out of your network provider’s range, calls go to network provider voicemail. Otherwise, the call goes to Live Voicemail.".

Did you test with someone calling your phone while it was off?

Visual Voicemail does not work. Sky is advertising the new iOS 18.0 Live Voicemail feature as Visual Voicemail. If Visual Voicemail worked then the user that commented earlier using an iPhone 11 on iOS 17.7 would be able to use it, instead they get a message stating "Visual Voicemail is currently unavailable".

I just turned off my phone and called my number from my work phone, left a voicemail through the Sky provided voicemail, rebooted the phone and the voicemail is nowhere to be found unless I call 171 (the voicemail number).

To confirm this further, I turned off Live Voicemail in the phone app, called my phone number again, didn't answer, let it go to voicemail, left a message. I got a notification from the Phone app that I have a new voicemail, but it's not Visual and is only a blue dot next to the "Call Network Provider Voicemail" button.

Does the €15 a month plan calls and texts allowance include landlines?

I'm with Vodafone PAYG at the moment and haven't been able to get iMessage working for the last few weeks. I wouldn't be so sure it's specific to Sky Mobile.

I think Visual voicemail only works for a few people on iOS 18 on supported iPhones. It works for me on Sky Mobile, as I have the playback options in the voicemail section on the phone app. Possibly it is not working for the user that commented earlier using an iPhone 11 on iOS 17.7 is because they are not on iOS 18 or using a supported iPhone? It's not working for my husband on his iPhone 14 on iOS 17, but it's working for me on my iPhone 15 on iOS 18.

That's part of the new Live Voicemail feature. I have that too.

Visual Voicemail is the feature that automatically transcribes your network providers voicemail (the 171 number). So rather than having to call the 171 number and listening to the messages, they are listed for you in the voicemail section of the Phone app.

Live Voicemail makes your phone into an answering machine essentially, but also transcribes the audio live, so you can answer during the voicemail, or if you don't answer, it gets saved to the voicemail section of the phone app.

You can enable Live Voicemail in the Phone app settings.

To activate iMessage, you need credit because it sends a text to a UK phone number for activation. This is why it might not be working for you. With a Vodafone PAYG plan, you need to spend €20 for example activate your plan first but that consumes your entire €20 leaving you with €0 in credit to text a UK number so you would need to top up an extra €5 in credit I think is the minimum for that iMessage activation text to send.

However, with Bill Pay, this isn't an issue since the charges are billed to your account. If you're a new Vodafone customer, they usually provide €0.50 of credit for free to help you activate iMessage for the first time. Or at least that's what they did for me when I switched to them.

Sky Mobile seems to just be refusing to send that UK activation text, probably to prevent me from being charged an out of bundle charge, even though I have enabled them.

I have had no issues with any 2FA yet, Revolut, Avant, My GovID, VHI all successful.

Speedtest at 6pm this evening on 4G

The Sky Mobile DNS is UK-based. My Google and YouTube is appearing as UK. Shopping websites are showing prices in GBP.

Are people receiving physical SIMS at all yet? Five days for me and counting.

They're having a similar issue with their fibre service, looks like they recently got a batch of IPs from the UK and haven't updated yet. Out of interest, do you get IPv6 addresses?

iMessage worked for me and my family on Sky. It seems to be an account or phone based issue in your scenario.

I am unable to add my number to my Apple account because the verification text never comes in, so I suspect if there is issues with verification texts, there is an issue with iMessage or FaceTime.

EDIT: The verification text now works, added my number to my Apple account, however getting an iMessage activation error.

I'm certain I'm in credit anyway, there are a load of different numbers that are used for verification behind the scenes. If you're unlucky enough to get one that has issues with the network it can lead to the activation failure. That's why most other people on the same network might not be running into the issue.

Vodafone have acknowledged there is an issue but are blaming Apple, whilst Apple are stating Vodafone have a block on the number being used for verification and the message isn't leaving the network. I had serious issues setting up eSIM for the PAYG plan and I reckon there's something wrong with the way they setup the account.

I had a similar issue with Virgin Mobile a couple of years ago and it took weeks of back and forth before they sorted it. It's a pain in the arse when porting regularly as you're bound to come across it eventually with all the verification requirements.

I'll be porting to Sky at the end of the week, I'll let you know how I get on … fingers crossed.

You can check if you are in credit using the MyVodafone app from the App Store. Good luck with your porting, hope it all goes well.

Did you port your number, or still on the Sky 089 number?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,929 ✭✭✭Infoanon

Received my sim card today (ordered Thursday) , apart from a minor issue / delay with the 'registered' phone the process of porting has run smoothly ,no issues with authentication so far .

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,149 ✭✭✭Davexirl

I ported my number from GoMo, the sim arrived today and the number ported during the sim activation process.

Ok based on some limited evidence, and coupled with a leap of faith, I managed to fix my 2FA SMS issue!

Basically I ported my number over, and now it's working.

So I assume the 2FA issue exists with the Sky 089 numbers, hence only some customers are affected.

Anyhow perhaps this might help some others. Although unfortunately if you're keeping the 089 Sky number then you'll need to wait for Sky to fix the issue.

I ported over my 083 number and have 2fa issues, not working for me.

Same here, ported from Three and have issues. Wonder is it porting from Three causing issues.
