Well, with the interview- just be able to give examples of the competencies. have two examples for each one. Take your time, clarify anything you are unsure of. Have a glass of water at hand. The interview board are very friendly and make the experience welcoming. So practice what you want to say about each competency, and again if you are unsure what the question is , just ask and get clarity- that's part of good communication. All the best.

Hello, I'm just wondering if anyone can answer my question.

For those that got the link to book a medical, who sent you the link?

    Was it from gardareserve.ie.?

    TIA

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 142 ✭✭popsmoke

Well, its from AGS. The email is for the vetting and for booking a medical -

    (hrpd.gardatrainee.info@garda.ie)

Stage 3 is done by AGS. They send you the options of where you want to do the medical ( different medical centres

around the country) , you make the booking yourself. I hope this helps.

Thanks popsmoke, I'll try that email. I have sent emails to the one I posted earlier and haven't got any reply.

Hello Popsmoke,I am in the same boat as jo pax, just confused, passed the interview, public jobs.ie sent me the email with my OOM and a link to the on line vetting which I completed.I never got a link for the medical from AGS,did you get the link for the vetting from public jobs or from AGS?I am after checking the email again from public jobs, definitely no link to book the medical, don't know if it's an oversight.I got a password protected file after I completed the vetting which I can't open because I don't know what the password is supposed to be!

I emailed the above address you gave,no reply, just worried I will miss the window to book the medical after coming this far, anyone else in the same position as me, terrible to say no one will reply to the emails I sent,so much for help with any queries.

I just checked there, I did actually send them an email about the medical but did not receive a reply back.

I am at a complete loss at how to proceed.

I think looks like they are doing the Medicals in batches like they do in the normal Garda recruitment by the oom number , maybe thats why only certain amount of medical emails were sent out .

If that is the case that would be good, I could understand that.

It's just when I haven't been told I just wondered if I was after slipping through the cracks so to speak.

If that's the way they are heading won't it be a bigger backlog after the next interviews at the end of the month. I wonder will they get vetting and medicals.

I'm also wondering will the original oom be revised with the new interviewees.

    I'm

You might want to ring public jobs and look for the competition manager ( her name is at the bottom of some of the original public jobs emails) this might get you an answer. All the best.

Thanks for that,I actually emailed the person already, she replied to me that AGS manage the stage 3 clearance and would not be able to answer any specific questions about the medical and to email them direct, which I have done,so I will have to wait and see will they reply..

Also did anyone get a zip file of their vetting form sent to them when they completed their form,I can't open it,it's looking for a password, tried my candidate ID number but that's not it ,any ideas?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 142 ✭✭popsmoke

I got the same. I'm just delighted to get the vetting form done. I'm lucky my medical wasn't on today, I would have failed with my blood pressure :)

Not strictly application related, but how do people feel about joining the reserves? I'm curious as to what's driving you to join and whether you have any reservations about it.

Did the interview give any clear indication of what your exact role would be? Did they say it would be a mix of office, traffic and street policing? I'd hate to join only to be stuck at a desk the whole time!

To answer part of your question from an anecdotal point of view, we had a reserve on our unit and he NEVER did any station based work. In fact I can't think of much in the station a reserve would be useful for. He was always out in the car or on the beat with us

I spent 22 years in the army, to be honest, I never thought I'd be back in a uniform, especially a blue one. But I'm going to give it a go and see how it turns out. To be able to serve your country is something special, its not for everyone, but someone has to do it. I hope to spent time out and about and helping in any way I can. Saying that, I'm under no illusion that I will be, Hopefully, a reserve that is simple helping out full time members.

    good to know

Was there any mention of the training requirements? Would you have to take time off your full time job to do it?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 114 ✭✭gibsondoyle

I believe you'll have to take atleast a couple weeks off to attend Templemore

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,535 ✭✭✭VonLuck

Unpaid? That's disappointing. It's a voluntary role yet you will need to sacrifice pay (or annual leave) to be able to join. I'd say it will limit people wanting to join.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 114 ✭✭gibsondoyle

I don't believe your time in Templemore is paid, but maybe I'm wrong.
