They sound good alright. I heard one track there that started like Dark Entries so I'm sold.

Sprints and Pixies were both class in Belfast last night. Enjoy!

Frank Black was a bit hoarse at times. He maybe overdid it in Galway the night before.

Are Flogging Molly in the 'Mary Wallopers'/'The Scratch' end of the spectrum/genre or more towards the 'Dropkick Murphys' or even way over at the 'House of Pain' end of things? Or perhaps even 'Saw Doctors'-like?

Genuinely curious. I should, I guess, explore myself!

He's touring it next year, but Paris and London only in Europe so far:

Was a brilliant gig, great song after great song with a few deeper cuts, and the crowd were really into it.

Enjoyed Brògeal too, like a mix of The Proclaimers, The Pogues and The Waterboys.

Brogeal are in workman's on October 2nd, 17.50. gonna go give them a shot with a proper sound mix.

They’ve been going about 27 years some of their early songs are very similar to The Pogues but they do have their own identity play with a lot of energy, and lean more towards the Celtic Punk style rather than the folk brand of the Mary Wallopers. They are well worth seeing.

Some atmosphere at Flogging Molly last night, been meaning to catch them for over 10 years. Brogeal remind me of a more folk version of the View.

Coldplay in Croke Park on Monday night, outstanding production and delighted they played 'In My Place' and the 'New Aslan' also made an appearance (just not the same without Christy RIP). Delighted I got the chance to see this tour and the future of live music will be fascinating with all this technology

Slightly different concerts coming up for me as the end of the year approaches. Daoiri Farrell Trio next Friday 13th and then Crowded House in the 3Arena in October

That was the most intense musical experience for 100-odd people in The Grand Social. And they were just the support. Cannot wait for Dis Fig……..

That is as good as it gets, isn’t it? What a musical treat. Best gig ever?

Dis Fig/The Body in The Grand Social. Not sure who the support was but he was brilliant.

    I was also at this.

The support was Luxury Mollusc, seen him years ago in the Bello Bar supporting Nadja. The blurb at the time described him thus: "Luxury Mollusc is the solo Atmospheric Harsh Noise/Ditch Electronics project of Dublin based multi-disciplinary artist Stuart Geelon. Focused on themes of castration and disease live performances see an improvised dissection of field recordings accompanied by the manipulation of detritus; scrap metal, bones, etc (often site specific) and processed vocals. Equal parts Japanoise junk freak-out, trauma-tronics and brooding industrial ambience." 😂

I certainly wouldn't be echoing Gloomtastic's thoughts (surprise, surprise!). It was grand. Some bits were very good, some not so much. Thought Dis Fig's vocals were a bit Madonna-ish at times and there was a few naff synth sounds on occasion.

This is from a couple of months back. A fair representation of tonight.

It may have been the 15mg of THC but last night brought me to the very edge of where music can take you while lifting me two feet in the air at the same time. Unbelievable stuff. Loved the junk/recycled element to Luxury Mollusc’s sound. That is so me.

Youd need to be on drugs to like that 'music' ….

    😣🙄

Prior to last night, the last gig I went to was in St Patrick’s Cathedral and described as music to elevate your mind and calm your spirit:

    “An evening of true artistry.”

    (The Times)

I had 10mg coursing through my veins for that one. Damn you drugs, you make all music sound better! 🤩😉

That sounds shocking. Wouldn't fancy going into that with a hangover.

Snooper pretty good in the Workmans Cellar tonight. Fast and furious punk but with a focus on FUN rather than the state of the world. A 30-35 minute set that had the crowd going full on moshpit from the off. The singer, bassist and one of the guitarists all took turns in joining the audience throughout the gig. There was an issue with the singer's mic but it got sorted eventually. They kind of reminded me a little bit of Melt Banana, what with the speed and fun of it all, but less bonkers. Singer reckoned it was the best night of the tour. I'd certainly go see them again.

Two supports; Spit were first up. A 3-piece clearly taking their cues from the first two Sonic Youth records. Then it was the turn of Affection To Rent, who were a shoegazey fivesome.

Anyone at Arab Strap in Limerick last night?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 9,177 ✭✭✭Gloomtastic!

Blaze Bayley, heavy metal is too one-dimensional, not my cup of tea. Realised during the support so tried to switch my ticket to see Four Faces upstairs at Whelan’s but they were sold out.

Was never a huge Snow Patrol fan but managed to get a ticket for their Ulster Hall show. Have to say they were brilliant.
