Sigh, I've been cycling that exact route for longer than I can remember. It's not a dig at you, it's just what I've observed from years of actually being on the road and not sitting in a warm bus wondering why I'm not moving. Do cyclist ls sometimes slow buses down? Sure they do but it's not all that common really. Not when you compare it to other traffic, including other buses.

"Well, yeah, you know, that's just, like, your opinion, man"

And it's what I've observed from years of using the bus. I'm not sure why you think it's simply ok for you to dismiss my viewpoint as irrelevant.

As for the bus being warm well that's a choice I'm making to use the bus. Whether the bus is warm or not it doesn't makre my experience much better if it's stuck behind a slow cyclist and unable to overtake which used to happen regularly despite your assertion that it doesn't.

Let's just agree it's better for everybody now.

New small section open approaching the lights. 50/50 cyclists not aware when approaching junction.

These cars just using that hybrid bike/park lane, to undertake the bus lane. 😂

New car park spaces. Any chance of a few bollards?

To who? They aren’t will to accept any criticism of the project. And there’s vehicles parked up there every day.
One car that used that as his daily parking spot, before the works, is back parking there again too.

Start here I would say: North.Central@dublincity.ie

May be able to forward it onto the dept. who deal with installing bollards to block the illegal parking..

Hopefully the bollards are on order.. though drilling them in after the pavement stone has been laid is probably quite expensive to complete..

It sucks that we have to cover the city in bollards to stop assholes from breaking the law like this!

We should really introduce a system where you can upload a photo of such offences and the person automatically gets a fine and penalty points. It would quickly put an end to this nonsense and no need for bollards everywhere.

Saw a video from Canada of a parking officer cycling along the city's cycle lanes with a handheld device to take a picture of anyone parked illegally in the cycle lanes.. and was a $150 fine sent immediately…

But again it's the usual story in Ireland, no enforcement of the laws/no consequences.. unless you're really unlucky..

It's probably this woman, Erin Urquhart. She's great. https://www.instagram.com/tps_bikehart

We are badly in need to traffic wardens in this country.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 9,440 ✭✭✭Tenzor07

The Gards will issue parking fines but usually only if local business call them on a consistent basis to report bad parking.. other than that the only parking wardens i've noticed would go around council operated car parking areas and not the streets in General.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,218 ✭✭✭Citizen Six

That's why I think we need wardens. Gardai don't really care about illegal parking. And they have better uses for their time. Years ago we had wardens, but seems they were just phased out slowly.

Most businesses aren't bothered by illegal parking, as it's generally their customers!

As someone who received a hefty parking fine in Dublin from the Gards not too long ago… they are out there.. but very rarely!

    Wasn’t aware of any range.

Thought it was just an 80€ available for AGS to dish out.

If they tow your car it can get pretty expensive.

If you contact a local councillor they can contact the local authority roads department on your behalf. My own local councillors are quite good at getting bollards in. A shame it's needed.

Our friends in London had this debacle going on since 2012, I used to cycle through it regularly. Makes the C2CC project look like a roaring success. The end product looks awful too.

Traveling at 70km/h instead of 100km/h = takes you 42% longer to get somewhere

Traveling at 15km/h instead of 30km/h = takes you 100% longer to get somewhere

You can also directly contact the roads department yourself.

For most smaller issues, councillors use the exact same channels as the public can and their requests get treated no differently. Of course if it is a bigger issue, like getting a whole new bike lane put in, that needs to be discussed at council level. But for things like filling potholes, adjusting traffic lights, bollards, graffiti, etc. it isn't really needed.

Yes I do often have contact directly with roads departments, but it can be a little bit more challenging because some of the people really don't appreciate you taking this approach. Whereas if they don't respond to councillors then things tend to escalate quickly!

I found myself in Fairview this morning and decided to get the Bus into work as I was heading up towards Camden St

Disaster… from about 8:10am to 8:25am approx 8 or 9 buses passed and none allowed passengers to board.

I abandoned the bus (I asked a young lad there how long he had been waiting and his reply was "ages") and stuck to my Normal DART option and walked to Fairview train station. A train arrived shortly after I got there but it was full, I would have probably been able to board, but didn't really fancy be squashed, another DART arrived after and I was able to board that one without being to squashed.

I think it's fair to say that public transport in the Fairview is basically non-functional now during rush hour. If you live around there, you may as well use a bike or drive or walk.

I will say though that inbound cycle lane was very, very busy. At sometimes borderline congested. There has been huge take up on the cycling, probably because its close(ish) to the city centre and the public transport is so appalling.

    image.png

There are a huge amount of cars turning right now (I don't know why) There is the very odd car in green jumping the left lane to continue on straight. As mentioned those 3 buses let people off and did not allow people to board.

    image.png

Dart was also very full as mentioned.

Nothing worse than people who drive in Bus lanes and cut out at the last second to gain a bit of time.. mandatory €150 fines will soon stop that!

And what looks like a Van parked in the bus lane with the doors open blocking the road… No wonder the area is all congested so..

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,949 ✭✭✭Beta Ray Bill

To be fair there are no road markings where the bus stop is, so it's not technically a bus lane.
The buses are blocking themselves. I was there for a good while and the Van caused no congestion.

All the cars looking to go up Fairview Strand plus an insufficiently sized filter lane plus poor light sequence is the issue.

It's strange to me that literally no one was going via Annesley Bridge road. (I'm guessing this is something to do with the traffic restrictions on the quays)

The Buses only stopped to let people off, there was no other blockages/waits for them during the time I was there. (15 min waiting, 5 mins at the top of the bridge)

This actually sounds like a very good "complaint" that you have… I know the public transport being full is very irritating and needs to be fixed, but in fairness it sounds like the transport network/system is going roughly the right direction: heavy usage of public transport and shorter distances being covered by active transport. I mean, obviously you need more buses/darts. But it sounds like you're seeing things improving.
