Sorry, yeah, my post wasn't worded very well… agree with you on the use of drones, my last comments were more directed at the post you were quoting. I just think the "could they not have used them to defend Donbas" argument that a few people have raised, while understandable at a visceral/ knee-jerk level, just doesn't hold up at all.

I know it's "just" fire but in the clip it looks like some kind of sci-fi laser.

My phrasing was poor I guess. I didn't mean the same exact drones, but drones nonetheless. I suppose I'm really wondering why ya'd keep pounding static objects, as useful as taking them out is vs a moving force on the way to take out one of the key towns for supplying the frontline troops. Taking out oil refineries and the like is good, but the impact of that loss won't be seen on the Russian side for some time whereas a force moving right now being minimised would

    It's two separate things.

The long-range drones are designed to impact Russia strategically, by hurting their main war resources. They target that infrastructure, as well as others. The long-range strikes also divert Russian resources to defend infrastructure, contradict their propaganda and are a morale boost for Ukr (they can actually retaliate to long-range strikes now).

The front is tactical and such drones would not have much use. There Ukr focuses on artillery, Himars strikes, FPV drones, etc.

millions easily depending on the strike, tens of millions maybe in exceptional strikes, hundreds of millions I highly doubt. Like the power plant strike shown on the weekend, it hit a relatively small section of the plant, the plant itself is largely still standing and it’s possible they could press it back into service (whether months or years) depending on the nature of the damage, and for a fraction of the cost it took to construct the plant. That plant was not a total write off by the look of it. That will similarly be the case with a lot of drone strike targets, they’re good weapons for Ukraine but they aren’t leveling city blocks or anything.

That Moscow refinery of which the video shows one of the key cracking towers going boom did cost hundreds of millions to modernise

here is Gazprom boasting about all they spent before the war

Notice how the key contractor were South Korean and European

Now the question is will these be helping Russia rebuild or will sanctions keep em away

Eitherway that’s a lot of infrastructure being destroyed with a cheap drone in what is meant to have been the most protected airspace in Russia

now that is likely going to hurt. I stand corrected so, Ukraine knows of a few really really valuable targets then if you know just where to hit. Whole refinery itself must be worth many billions then in hardware alone.

    Speaking of Europe helping Russia

Here are talking heads calling for destruction of EU

And here is EU saying “take our money”

While continuing to block transfer of seized 300bn in Russian assets that can win this war

Well ya that's why I used "" for just. I just meant it looked more like a laser beam than a burning/melting substance.

I’ve weed patches in my garden that could go with this same weed eradication method

Meanwhile “ordinary Russians” are busy celebrating one of their missiles decapitating a young girl in Kharkiv

Seen a few videos recently on twitter of foreign lads fighting for Ukraine and Russia.

Would all these be paid by Russia n Ukraine or voluntary?

What kind of dough would they be on a week? Dunno about Ukraine but I doubt Putin would be valuing there lives.

Would these lads be thrown into whatever hotspot to save locals lives? Seems a risky business to be in !

My understanding is that the Kursk invasion and attacks on Russia's interior cast Ukraine in a good light from a PR perspective and therefore might help in getting further funding/ weapons from NATO. Similarly, they are losing in Donbas and a few extra drones there would likely not alter the outcome significantly. Furthermore, Ukraine crossing Russian red lines and not suffering a nuclear outcome might give NATO countries confidence to directly join the war effort in Ukraine with their troops.

Lots of potential reasons depending on what you're inclined to believe.

Up to $1790 a month (dependent on which part of Russia because some piggies are more equal than others) and up to $2000 signup bonus

There’s a catch tho, best of luck surviving more than a week

Yet another reason Putin’s oil machine needs to be dismantled pronto and sanctions actually enforced

The European countries and companies whom continue to do business with Russia need to be named and constantly shamed

Not a terrible comment for once.

Some Baltic nations have suggested bringing in some of their troops into the East of Ukraine to help with logistics, in order to free up Ukrainian man-power, but it's been considered too risky. Apart from that there are few plans for NATO forces to directly help Ukraine on the ground/air.

Of course if Ukraine had been in NATO in the first place none of this would be happening.

This was the reason Saudi backed off from attacking the Houthis. Despite a far superior army and the best of American weapons the Houthis started launching drones at their refineries.

Now Russia is obviously a lot bigger then Saudi but the same logic applies. This year their facilities took a big increase in hits. Won't be pretty for the Russian's if Ukraine can increase that further in 2025. All about driving the cost up for Russia.

Send them in as "mercenaries" just like the "definitely not Russian soldiers" that have been in Donbas since 2013.

If I was a Russian commander, the numbers of D-30 howitzers on the list would be a major red flag. There's scraping the barrel to put something on an inactive front and then there is putting them in the firing line.

Won't be long till we see some Iranian or North Korea made pieces in Ukraine or even Russia.

We had several posts sneering that predictions of Russian decline have not come true

Yet decline is the only way one can describe Russians resorting to using equipment from early 1960s

They are literally scraping the barrel (pun)

While the west continues to debate allowing long range strikes into Russia, the Iranians are busy transferring long range missiles to Russia (Israelis must be delighted)

One of the suggestions in the past was that the Russian army was prioritizing rocket artillery rather than tube artillery. The loss counts of howitzers would hint that it might have been conjecture on the part of the analysts.

As regards the Iranian missiles, will be interesting to see how they deploy them. The could be used to target say the F16s or military fortifications. Think unfortunately they will be more used to strike civilian buildings and energy infrastructure.

North Korea have already supplied Russia with ballistic missiles which are fired from Russia into Ukraine. Ukraine still are not allowed strike deep into Russia with western arms. Something about escalation.

We're at the point where western tanks are rolling around Kursk ffs. This self imposted redlines by the west are just a **** joke now. Ukraine would be better asking for forgiveness than permission to attack targets deep within Russia.
