Well. All went well. Mine was like this - The competencies are covered ( or 4 out of the 5 were). Give examples of each one. Be able to give examples on each one and they will ask questions from that. About 40 minutes. They are sound, have a pint of water ready. Take your time. If you are unsure, just ask them to clarify the question. Straight forward enough once you have examples of the competencies. Best of luck everyone.

On a different note, I have just copped by reading through the information booklet, that there is no fitness test for reserves. I've spent the last few week trying the shuttle run and doing pressups, after many years of neglect. I suppose it won't do me any harm!

I did the medical for the reserves some years back (was offered a place but couldnt go at the time due to work/travel commitments). Anyway, the medical at Garda HQ; Invloved checking BMI (they seemed pretty strict about this) and testing by mobility/flexibility (movement of joints etc). I was fairly fit (at the time) and had no problem. Except for my eyesight which they were strict enough about too but this I passed after getting a letter from an Optometrist (at Specsavers) who confirmed my vision was within the acceptable limits.

That's interesting, my own optician said I'd be borderline on the day based on the requirements, so will hopefully get to that point first of all.

interview went well I’m happy enough but you never know
they really focus on the competencies

Have to say the panel were really nice and made you feel really comfortable and at ease

Good luck to everyone else that has interviews this week.
fod knows when we will know if we passed

What kind of questions did they ask you on the competencies?

would anyone know by any chance how long it’ll roughly take for the interview results to come out?

I think that this recruitment process is better organised and will run on time. Apply in July (stage 1), Interviews in August (stage 2), so we could see medicals and vetting for the first batch in September (stage 3).

The chairperson took the first two competencies, with the sergeant taking the second two, with the last one (communication) being assessed on the overall interview. Questions I can recall related to teamwork, as in can you give examples of teamwork you have performed, then how that would assist you as a reserve. Another might be dealing with the public, again with examples and how that interaction went in relation to a significant event. I was also asked what areas of the role I most looked forward to, but also what areas I was not looking forward to.

Yup, I’m in the low 500s and was also invited for an interview today in the same period.

lol thanks I know that bit but how do you know it will be next week

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 106 ✭✭gibsondoyle

I don't know. I'm just assuming based on past experience.

I made it past the interview stage in 2017 and got my result within 10 days so am assuming the same for this competition.

no contact been received after interview, which was held almost 2 weeks ago now. I imagine they will ratify and process us in blocks of yay/nay and then email everyone at once, so when 1 of us gets a message we all will hopefully.
