I noticed this too recently, seems very strange? BÁC had their timetables in nicely formatted PDFs for years, sure they were always printed off for hospital reception desks and the like. Very odd

The timetable files for "BusConnected" routes are done by the NTA, not Dublin Bus.

So DB now rely on the NTA sending updated files that are nicely formatted.

They clearly haven't done that in this case. Hence we end up with that L25 timetable file.

    Daft, but there you go.

I've no skin in the game but I think this might be an approach to accesible documents:

    6. Electronic Documents – Voice of Vision Impairment (vvi.ie)

VVI (who members of this forum will be familiar with) have a list of policies and incuded in that in section '6.3A2, Advantages of SAF types Over Other File Types' Lists out a few of their reasons for prefering docx files over pdf, and there was repeated requests for these docx alternatives to be provided multiple times over the course of the Dublin City Transport Plan consultation that DCC and the NTA were alegedly slow to grant.

So this change might be a response to some of the feedback there.

thats a 50% drop in frequency along the NCR with the swap of the 46a for the 11

Also the 46a goes via Berkeley road , what route is the revised 11 supposed to take - its not shown on any of the maps.

That study is a load of bumf though. I can't open a docx in my native browser whether that's on desktop or Android.

While I don't know much about screen readers, I do know that if a pdf is formatted properly you can easily search through it for text.

Any word yet of an expected implementation date ?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 167 ✭✭AX636

Sunday the 23rd of November apparently

thats a lot of routes to co-ordinate for launch as they all mesh up

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2, Paid Member Posts: 19,668 ✭✭✭✭LXFlyer

That looks like an internal company document.

The 11 is not on the map as it’s a temporary change of an existing route until the next phase happens which is the O route.

The 11 will follow the 46a route from Phoenix Park to O’Connell Street.

The 11b will also operate from Phoenix Park to Sussex Road along the same route as the 11 to fill the gaps.

There will be plenty of information about the changes and timetables closer to the time.

We will have to wait until the NTA launch the next phase to get the full details.

Interesting that the 11 says 'Parkgate st' not phoenix park. It's a pet peave of mine that the 46a turns around on Parkgate st and doesn't offer a passenger stop there to serve heuston

Interesting to see the E1 short working is down to be worked out of the temporary depot at Jamestown Road. Would they not label it as E9 or similar?

Also I heard from Sen Annie Hoey that NTA/Go Ahead hope to launch the N2 in early October, ahead of the other changes.

Some drivers use Conygham Road Garage to turn around for the jax

Thought the E2 was supposed to be going Charlesland not Ikea

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,856 ✭✭✭p_haugh

That was changed after feedback I believe. The F2 is now planned to continue on from Charlestown to IKEA on the current 140 routing

How will the X2 manage it's evening runs go the all the way out from Hawkins St to Newcastle?

Is that bus going to be integrated into the L12/L14 timetable throughout the day or will the X2 have a straight dead run going from Bray depot all the way out to Hawkins St? I would assume that the X2 would have a dead run in the morning going from Bray depot to Newcastle and then the route will go on the morning run out to Newcastle to Hawkins St.

However would the issue of heavy traffic in Bray hamper the punctuality of the X2 going into Hawkins St on time in the late afternoon weekday period.

Paywall article but a good overview of where BC is currently at. Driver and mechanic recruitment and retention remain among the biggest challenges as to why there are still implementation delays but passenger numbers on the spines and routes that have been introduced have increased by 26% so that's encouraging.

Dublin’s BusConnects: The issues still preventing it from being fully rolled out

Figures from the transport body show that journeys increased by 26 per cent in the last quarter of 2023 on routes included in the redesigned network, compared with equivalent services that were in place in the same period in 2019. Routes that have not yet been altered were just 2 per cent higher last year compared with 2019.

Those are seriously impressive numbers. And those are compared to pre covid, so a fair comparison and also compared to non BusConnects Routes! And all of that without any of the infrastructure side of BusConnects!

However, he argued that “next-generation ticketing”, where a person can pay for their fare via card or phone, needs to “happen quicker”.

“It’s not a big thing but it just makes public transport easier to use and something people have been crying out for a long time,” Dr Caulfield said. “That’s low-hanging fruit that we should be able to do quicker.”

I couldn't agree more. I think the NTA missed a trick here by not doing the next gen ticketing part at the start of the BusConnects project.

The cost of the project, initially estimated at about €1 billion, currently stands at between €2.62 billion to €3.37 billion, and is to be funded through the

€3 Billion, for just bus improvements! We could have built an extensive Luas network for that sort of money! Luas Red and Green line cost €728 million combined and Cross city another €368 million.

It really is a mystery wrapped in an enigma why we can't deliver infrastructure projects like, say, a Metrolink from Ranelagh to Cherrywood.

Maybe not for this topic, but I'll ask anyway. Is the route 99 shuttle through Phoenix Park gone? I can't find anything on TFI app but maybe I'm not looking in the right place. Thanks.

I think it finishes at 6pm or something I seen recently operated by single decker buses.

Most of the road is done by so-called Universal duties (which are duties not assigned to a specific route, but numbered and rostered independently), but with some 145 duties working in both peaks. In particular, some of the inbound trips in the morning go on to work 145s from Heuston.

There are a lot of things that feel very weird in that little reassignment pdf, but what can I say, I'm not the one making decisions. A PVR of 44 on the E1 indicates (at face value) a lap time of 5h52 if counted at f-8, just short of 3h one way. That's a fair bit more than the 155 gets (even accounting for the E1 going to Ballywaltrim, but that's just an extra 10' on top of the Bray terminus routing). Even if we're counting at f-7.5 that's still 5h30, or 2h45 each way. It'll be an interesting timetable for certain, both public and working.

And at seven years and counting, we could have built more luas lines in much the same time as BusConnects
