Ok my immediate question about that Metroid Prime 4 trailer is how that chimes in with the worst-kept secret in Nintendo & the Switch 2: if Prime 4's due 2025 can we expect this to be a cross-platform game as BotW was fadó (Wii + Switch?)

I'd say cross-gen is near guaranteed. To my eyes that trailer looked distinctly Switch quality - very much of a piece with the remastered MP1 aesthethics.

Metroid Prime 4 is definitely a cross platform game. I'm disappointed, as I wanted it exclusively on Switch 2, to make the most of the new hardware.

But, Nintendo did promise it to Switch owners, it's a niche franchise and they've got a ready made user base of 130+ million, so they weren't going to ignore that.

I do have to give Nintendo credit: in an age where many game trailers are pre-rendered or 'in engine' cinematics, Nintendo shows off its biggest upcoming games clearly running on actual Switch level hardware even if it isn't as flattering as the likely next-gen versions will be. No doubt that Metroid Prime 4 will look very close to that running on a standard Switch, even if it's likely going to have a significant resolution upgrade for the successor console.

Nice! Fun, colourful, timeless videogames, competing on art style, gameplay, small budgets (because there is only so much you can do on a Switch), and appealing to a wide audience.

Yeah that trailer was running on Switch(1) hardware. Nintendo almost never shows gameplay made to look better than the final result. Metroid Prime 4 looks great!

Aonuma looks fresh, like they have given him a few weeks off after TOTK. 😁

I'd say 20 more years of Zelda stewardship from him.

Hopefully he steers clear of the movie, theme park side of things.

Just saw in the American stream that there as a collector's edition of World Championship.

Ya, that was announced a month ago, Europe is getting it too. I remembered there was a difference between some of the regions in the collection, but had to look it up to remind myself .

Japan gets a pair of NES controllers, but Europe and America doesn't.

Nintendo Museum Direct tomorrow, 19th August at 11pm Irish time, a tour of the Nintendo Museum that’s scheduled to open during Autumn of 2024 in Kyoto, Japan! The Nintendo Museum Direct livestream will last roughly 10 minutes.

What's the bet at the end they will pan to a view of all the previous systems in the museum, and end with a Mario question mark block where the next Nintendo system will be? Or maybe they WILL tease the next system. This would be the perfect opportunity to at least show the shell of the system, and would be great promotion for Switch 2 and the museum.

Potential Direct this week according to Switchforce (from sources)

I assume would be an indie direct since not long since the last Direct.

Nintendo Direct: Partner Showcase and Indie World presentation tomorrow at 3pm Irish time.

I don't expect a Nintendo Switch focused Direct this year or ever again. I think the last one, was the last one. And that's why we were shown Metroid Prime 4. I think it will be showcased for Switch 2 going forward. Similar to what happened with BOTW when the Switch was revealed. And I think we will get first details of Switch 2 later this year, possibly November or December, with a blowout in January or February.

There's never been a Direct and a Partner Direct close together. There's never been a Partner Direct at this time of year. It's always been a traditional Direct in September.

There was a Direct Mini: Partner Showcase in September 2020, but that's different and it was at the height of the COVID pandemic when Nintendo themselves didn't have anything to show. They had another one in October as well. That's all we got in 2020, Direct Mini: Partner Showcases. Nintendo didn't have a proper Direct that whole year.

As I said earlier, I think we'll get first details of Switch 2 somewhere around November/December, the full reveal around January/February and then released in April or May next year. We've had our last Nintendo Switch focused traditional Direct, now it's the last turn of an Indie World Showcase and Partner Direct.

    So guess I'll ask it:

    Silksong?

They need to add to that Switch Successor tweet to include Silksong not being shown.

Rumour: Seems a Call of Duty game will be announced at Nintendo Partner Direct

It'll be interesting I guess to see if this is true and what they give us at this very late stage. Will it be new and exclusive? I highly doubt it. Will it be online? Will it be a cloud version? 🤢

No mention of the Switch successor ...

    However ...

    On more thing ... Wii U 2

At this stage what is the point of these Directs? The Switch is on its last legs and the only thing people care about is what the specs of the Switch 2 will be and when it will be out.

Nintendo run the risk of people moving on from their system to Steam/Windows handhelds or PS5/XBox with all of their prevaricating. I know they have their games but Mario Kart, BOTW etc. are years old and anyone who wants them, has them.

If there is a COD game, I'd expect it to end the show or be one of the last reveals. It wouldn't be hard to beat what has been shown so far. So many ports, remasters, collections of old games. 🥱

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 20,972 ✭✭✭✭sligeach

I think Switch 2 will use a Wii U feature, the ability to play on TV and gamepad at the same time. I'm sure of it.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 20,972 ✭✭✭✭sligeach

No COD announcement, it's ending with Yakuza Kiwami. That was a bucket full of 💩.

The Castlevania collection of DS games looked very cool (although you can play them on emulators).

I also liked the look of Peglin (out today).

Not much else for me I think…

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 8,599 ✭✭✭SuperBowserWorld

Yeah, they could support DS games that way in both handheld and TV modes. And stuff like Wind Waker HD map/controls from Wii U.

Legend of Heroes: Trails in the Sky 1 has been remade which was the biggest reveal for me and lasted ten seconds!
