I would have preferred free upgrades without any DLC-ish content tbh.

    I'm going to go broke.

Was never going to happen really. Sony started the craic of charging for an upgrade so was easy for Nintendo to follow.

Donkey Kong Bananza is the game of the Direct.

No price or reveal of the interface.

    I'm still delighted with what's coming though…

Yea I've €500 on my Revolut here so I'm buying it anyway.

Mario Kart, Duskblood and Donkey Kong are all must buys for me.

Probably the best Nintendo Direct of all time, the Switch 2 is an enormous upgrade over the OG Switch, far bigger than PS4 to PS5. This is probably more in line with PS1 to PS2 in terms of upgrade. The only thing i'm not happy about is the pre ordering system which is a Nintendo Switch Online invite only system based on how many hours you've spent playing games and how many Nintendo promotions you took part in.

How am I meant to wait for Christmas after seeing that direct? It was going to be a present for my son but it's looking like a day one purchase for me.

I bought a Switch early days, not on launch day though.

I'll get a Switch 2 eventually. The presentation was a mixed bag. Mario Kart, Metroid Prime 4 and Donkey Kong Bananza look great. 3rd parties are going to town on ports, likely full price ports, that run and look better on other hardware and are far cheaper at this point.

The bigger control sticks and buttons on the new Switch 2 Joy-Cons is very welcome. I've said it numerous times before that the original Joy-Cons are pieces of 💩. Nintendo's most expensive controller ever and that's what they came up with. SMH.

There's too many talking points. But one of the biggest is the price of everything. You're looking at €800 to buy the console, a couple of games, a memory card and a Pro Controller. And they're still a generation behind tech wise. Paying for what is primarily a handheld, features I'm not interested in, but it's the only show in town to play Nintendo 1st party games on TV.

The camera for GameChat is another €60. Nintendo are initially letting it be used free, but it's going to be a part of the NSO expansion pack service. More money, otherwise it's a useless paperweight. €80 and €90 for games, I'm not having it. I wasn't going to pay €70 which I thought they might try.

It looks like Nintendo are persisting with the ludicrously expensive proprietary cartridges that have limited capacity. 64GB was supposed to be a theoretical option on Switch, but never happened. We got less than a dozen games that used the 32GB cartridge. Are these cartridges again driving up the price of games on Switch 2? Nintendo care first and foremost about preventing piracy. They don't care that it's hitting customers in the pocket and that it's leading to a traunch of botched physical releases with "download required" banners on the box art. I'll leave it at that.

An expensive proposition alright. At least the old pro controllers are compatible. We've a ton of existing Nintendo and PS games to get though here. It can wait a few years.

I don't know what Nintendo are thinking with the prices they are charging for the games, we're back to N64 launch title prices equivalent in euros. If these prices stay it's going to hurt sales for sure being 15 to 30 euros more expensive than other platforms.

Just wondering about the Camera accessory. Smyths has it for €59.99, but the quirky and infinitely more fun Piranha Plant camera is only €44.99. Does it have the same functionality, is it a misprice, or are you just paying more for the more grown-up/professional-looking edition?

edit: I see that the piranha plant version is from Hori. Not that it makes it inferior and lower-priced as a result of course, but officially it’s considered unofficial?

I couldn’t think of a worse accessory than a camera tbh. Who wants to see the ppl they are playing with and vice versa? 😂 Will be interesting to see how Nintendo police it's usage too.

People who play remotely with friends and family which is what it is limited to. It's not going to show you randoms online. Only other accounts you are "friends" with.

I've done many a Zoom while playing with family so this camera is right up my alley.
