I think people worrying about De Ligt and Maguire as a defensive pairing are wrong. They'll pretty much never play together. Maguire will be on the bench. Our CBs are Licha and MDL with Yoro being rotated in and Maguire as back up.

Yoro injured for another while, and can we expect martinez to play every game. His first two seasons haven't provided that.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,526 ✭✭✭BenK

Yoro is currently injured and Martinez has previous so not too far fetched to see Maguire and MDL playing together for a prolonged spell!

I mean its better for it to be MaGuire and deligt then Maguire and Evans or Maguire and Linderof surely.

We should think of DeLigt as our Maguire replacement but a year early as he is available for cheap and makes sense to buy him now.

Its crazy people complaining about us improving our cb situation for a solid fee and also improving the age profile of the CBS.

Martinez, DeLigt, Yoro is a huge improvement on where we were sure we need a Martinez back up but that's not realistic when we have 3 other senior CBS.

Can Deligt and MaGuire play together of course then can will there be some issues with that of course there will but it'll be fine for the most part.

We should be expecting Martinez to play a lot of games his injuries have been unlucky contact injuries for the most part, sure if he has another injury ravaged season then it'd be time to be looking at a replacement instead of a back up, but it's not something we should be expecting.

DeLigt 25, Martinez 26, Yoro 18 that looks like a solid CB set for many years to come, Evans Maguire and Linderof will all be gone come next season and we can see what we need to do about lcb (back up or replacement on the small chance Martinez has another injury ravaged season)

Do they sell the kits without a sponsor, would pay more for the new third kit without a sponsor. Love they went with the original Adidas logo.

Only time I've seen sponsorless kits is when its a kids jersey / gambling sponsor.

I see that our 3rd keeper jersey with the original logo, the plain black one is the exact same as the Bayern and Arsenal 3rd keeper jersey. Without getting too old man yelling at the sky on it… could they not make a bit of an effort to differentiate them!

We are likely to be signing both MDL and Mazraoui for around £50m plus add ons.

Newcastle have bid £55m plus add ons fo3 Guehi.

    Everton wanted £70m for Brantwaite.

We have gotten tremendous value for money there, particularly as we are getting around £15m for AWB.

INEOS' first window in charge feels like the polar opposite to the post SAF era.

So far we've seen us express interest / formally bid for players, have limits on what we will spend and if the selling club won't play ball we move on to the next target. It's brilliant to see things being run properly. We obviously still have alot of surplus to requirements players but assuming we cant sell, Maguire, McT, Eriksen, Lindelof, Pellestri and Evans are all out of contract next summer. With the exception of Pellistri, I think there is zero chance any of those players get new deals so them all leaving frees up alot of squad places. With the signings of the 2 BM lads along with Yoro, that's pretty much our defense sorted for the next 4 or 5 seasons at least, apart from occasional tweaking.

I don't think it's any coincidence that so many defenders are OOC in the next year and this is why we've thus far focused on strengthening our backline.

MF will be next and I'd be 100% confident we will sign at least 1 midfielder before the window closes, ideally 2 of course but Ashworth and the gang are showing they won't have their pants pulled down.

It's a very exciting time in the clubs life cycle so hopefully the manager and players can reward the backing they've got via their onfield performances.

The defence is sorted for the next 4 or 5 years? We had no left back for about half of last season. Surely investment will be needed there if not this summer then next summer at the very least.

Mazraoui can play either side, Shaw will be partially available and Licha offers more than adequate cover. Amass also looked bright in pre-season. Malacia, well, who knows, but thats 4 players that can play in that position.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 48,944 ✭✭✭✭Mitch Connor

Level of investment will depend on Amass. Imo.

It has been refreshing to see the way they've went about their business. Walking away from deals quickly is the reset that we needed.

I was concerned when they all headed off to the US for a bit of a jolly, or so I thought. But it was reported that they got a whopper deal from Snapdragon out of it.

I think if we're honest, the Yoro deal sticks out as a bit of an old regime type deal. I think ego got involved. We supposedly doubled Madrids offer for a teenager in the last year of his contract. It was crazy money and If someone said Woodword or Arnold had done that deal, you would believe them. Not complaining about the deal, but I think it was a bit of a flex.

The remaining weeks could see it turn out to be a brilliant window. I would take a DM and a back-up striker. I think Casemiro will prove he's not ready for the scrapheap just yet so 1 DM will do, for this summer.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 48,944 ✭✭✭✭Mitch Connor

Not sure we really got anythign out of Snapdragon.

A triggered extention to the current deal, at the current price. The back of shirt stuff is part of that deal so no extra cash.

But it could be that they have had initial talks on Stadium naming - and have that ready to go.

I do think it is right that Ashworth and Wilcox went - need them to be around the players/staff especially this summer to build relationships and understanding. It also feels like Berrada will be a larger part of the squad planning (with respect to valuations and budgets) so probably good they (inc. EtH) were all there building a shared understanding of where the squad is at.

Hargreaves and Vivel stayed behind to work on the plans and put stuff in place, according to the reports.

Would be interesting if the same group went next summer. Wilcox should be obvious, but maybe Ashworth doesn't. For business reasons I would assume Omar would go too.

To be honest, Martinez injuries for United, bar a strain after being rushed back, aren't particularly recurring injuries rather more contact injuries that you wouldn't be expecting to happen again, and if they did that would just be sheer bad luck

You can't really use breaking a bone or the knee injury that he suffered as evidence that he has a history of injury problems. These were outliner injuries.

You can twist anything you want to have an old moan just to keep the theme going.

We should have four really strong options at cb for the first time in probably 15 years or more and 3 of them are under 26. That's great going..

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 48,944 ✭✭✭✭Mitch Connor

To be clear, I'm not having a moan.

I was just disagreeing with the idea that we are unlikely to see Maguire and De Ligt as a partnership. I think we will see it a good few times. It won't be first choice, but we will see it.

Hell, we could see it on Friday with De Ligt coming in for Evans, for example. One of De Ligt or Mazraoui is likely to come in, imo.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 22,317 ✭✭✭✭PARlance

Ah ok, the article I skimmed over seemed to be putting it forward that a big deal was done will they were over there.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 48,944 ✭✭✭✭Mitch Connor

That is how the headlines seemed to portray it to be fair.

I do find it interesting that they have extended the deal so quickly after announcing it. Like, they've only been front of shirt for a month officially and it is already extended.

There is an opportunity cost argument for/against it - but even ignoring that for a moment, just the fact they have extended, so quickly, indicates that there is a strong relationship between United and Snapdragon/Qualicom. TeamViewer couldn't wait to get out, same with Chevrolet - but Snapdragon extend, immeditately. With a new stadium seemingly on the horizon and an upgrade to the training ground in development, i reckon we will see additinal Snapdragon deals announced in due course (Snapdragon Arena at Old Trafford, Snapdragon Training Centre), for additional revenue. I reckon that is what Omar actually got done with them. Not something we are seeing now, but something we will see in the next 12 months and beyond. Pure speclation on my part, OBVIOUSLY, but with those two big naming sponsor spots coming available/unused, its the logical leap I am making based on the extention being done immediately, 3 years before the deal was due to expire.

Mazraoui is more likely to come straight in, he had a full and strong preseason and only missed the last match against spurs due to the transfer, even though he was on the bench.. deLigt, came back after holidays and passed the medical tests and started team training in the lead up to that game I think. He will be lacking match sharpness. Could see him for the last 10/20 mins maybe

Probably but not announced yet. I’d imagine all that official signing and media stuff was done last night.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,736 ✭✭✭davehey79

Unless the official site haas missed the signings they arent signed as of yet

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 22,317 ✭✭✭✭PARlance

No way that Bayern would be letting them train if they hadn't. If the rumours are true obviously.

I wouldn't be surprised if the signing / promo work was all done early this morning and they're just waiting on the US to wake up for additional clicks / fan engagement or whatever they call it.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 12,234 ✭✭✭✭DrPhilG

I don't think so. I'm guessing they'll be official shortly now that AWB has gone.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,445 ✭✭✭Quags

I can see this happening in the next couple of weeks, no way theyll want him just sitting around. Loan to buy then go get another like Fofana or Berge

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 11,270 ✭✭✭✭billyhead

The best thing about the new regime is that the new suits will be hanging around the training ground more. Just to keep ETH under no illusion that he has free reign or not under scrutiny to deliver.
